Vanvittig forelsket (2009)
Worst movie I ever saw in a theater
I was unlucky enough to watch it a a surprise premiere showing, and I regretted not leaving at once.
I had never been to a theater where the entire crowd shouted with glee when the torture was finally over... I have now.
The movie is filled with lousy acting, the dialog is painful and the pace is so slow that the movie feels endless. Luckily it isn't.
As an example of the painful dialog and pace I will refer to an episode in the movie where the female lead says: "we need to talk".
The resounding groans in the audience was immense and a comment of "please, make it short" was shouted at the screen.
What comes to me as the biggest surprise is how well some people rate this movie - I would never recommend this movie to anyone.
Van Helsing (2004)
The biggest movie disappointment in a century
I had heard some not very flattering things about this title, but thought I'd give it a chance on DVD.
Together with a friend - who like me is also a big fan of the genre - I had made the perfect setup. It was the day after a party, the one thing we were in mood for was a good movie on the DVD. We didn't have high expectations, but were sorely disappointed anyway.
*** the following may contain SPOILERS ***
It started out reasonably, until the so-called special effects took over. The scene in France with Mr. Hyde almost made me stop the movie. It was like putting in a cartoon character. At first I thought it was Quasimodo.
Unfortunately the movie did not get better. The "machine-gun cross-bow" is a joke, so is Van Helsing's marksmanship - until, of course, he has to hit a bride, then he is suddenly very accurate.
Another scene that was really bad was the brides chasing the carriage over several hours, flying up high in the sky, and yet they seemed to miss the other carriage 100 yards away - please...
I could go on for quite some while but will stop now. I had high hopes for this title initially. They went down due to bad reviews from friends - so I decided not to watch it at the cinema. Still with my hopes being down, this turned out to be my biggest movie disappointment in a century :-(
