Alice (2022)

Alice in entertaining watch
6 June 2023
Alice begins telling the story of how some slave owners were still stuck in their slavery mindset and they used fear of change to justify keeping their slaves from being free. Their anger of losing humans as property like cattle to mentally handicap other humans and believe they are entitled to determining another man's freedom and worth because of a brainwashed systemic racism society. They didn't want slaves to be educated beyond the Bible and only by their interpretation of that belief. We spent too much time in that setting for me. I'm sure it's to make a imprint affect on the audience. When Alice becomes free it's not when she escapes physically but mentally. Overall the acting and storyline created an entertaining watch. Was it a 'must watch'? No. What happened in this film is factual and documented more than 100 years after the Emancipation Proclamation, there were black people in the Deep South who had no idea they were free. These people were forced to work, violently tortured, and raped. Our history is their history and they rather criminalize 'woke' in meaning questioning them, being aware, being observant and not being ok with the force fed whitewashed accounts that only serves their purpose.

The Reading (I) (2023)
4/10
It had potential but ran dry real quick.
14 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I knew I wasn't the only one who felt the plot holes widening in this storyline as the film progressed.. First act reeled us in. Right in the middle of the second act we just fell through. The anticipation of spirits playing a major role in this film was lost when the direction of the story took a left and never resurfaced. How does this happen? You can have the plot twist (figured it out after 5 min of watching) along with the supernatural perspective. Teasing the viewers with the idea of evil spirits exacting revenge then leaving them high and dry was the reason why the movie became a letdown for me. The characters even continued to behave as if they were being attacked by a spirit they couldn't fight back. Their actions and decisions played a major role in the weakened storyline. Many missed opportunities with the writing of the film. Monique's character was entertaining at best it didn't pull the entire movie with the 'just ok' characters and questionable story development. I saw someone else ask the question about the young women putting on the extra clothing all for it to never mean anything. The ending then plays on the supernatural aspect again ( I think) but why? Overall it's evident the creators played on this being a horror movie thinking it can play against the normal tropes and be successful. It just comes off as a B Horror movie that'll never be a cult classic. In meaning I'll never watch this ever again.

Shattered Memories (2019 TV Movie)

One should never have expectations watching a Lifetime movie.
4 February 2023
The storyline was decent overall. Character Development throughout the film flowed. Pacing from characters and storyline leading to the killer's identity was on point for a suspense thriller. I don't agree with other reviews on the characters being boring and the film moving too slow. It had good pacing and the motive believable especially for a Lifetime movie. The law enforcement inclusion didn't make me mad as the detective's storyline was written well enough to give us hope and not another "really?" moment. This by far was one of the 'good ones' in comparison to others I've had to endure or turn off because I couldn't waste another minute of watch time. Overall due to plot, ok characters and their storylines and the ending I would recommend this movie to my fellow Lifetime movie watchers.

Everyone wants a happy ending... that's an illusion we all due in the end.
27 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Spoiler alert... here's the thing this is a good psychological thriller being that it's a mind game people expecting it to end clear and on a happy pleasurable note are delusional. The movie starts off where it ends for the protagonist. The direction of the film takes you on a ride of pure anxiety and blame placement due to the possibility of a guilty conscious. It comes off as a mind game that is surrounded by coincidental occurrences that the antagonist Imo plays on? Why did we need to know about the letter? As this wanted us to know of the letter for a reason because that's the only connection the antagonist had and it was given to him on a silver platter. Guilt was on the antagonist due to the fact we knew his wife had an issue with being away - mental facility? We know she's trying to deal with her anger with the daughter and then he leaves her yes the mother but unstable with the child? This was his guilt and it played over onto someone else. He's not a bad guy he just let it play out in his favor. Good watch all the same.

A Dangerous Date (2018 TV Movie)

What am I watching? And why am I still watching it?
10 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
First thing the makeup on the character Alexis even in the morning shots? I can't get passed it. Let's move on to the fact that this dude Peter claims he hasn't dated in years right? Ok Peter I think I believe you because you slept with this woman first night and you have her all up in your home haven't introduced her to your daughter but you're in the kitchen acting as if you've known her for a lifetime? This is when I was done with the movie. Literally. No I'm lying it's when they gave us the hospital flashback. This child was looking at this family or Peter then? That's what they came up with? Back to Peter his character is by far one of the funniest characters in a supposedly serious thriller I've stumbled upon. He was bent out of shape about dating and soon as he gets some he acts like a kid a Disneyland who's been told it's time to go? Or whipped like what Julie called him. He's definitely that if nothing else. He doesn't trust his daughter and getting upset about it like he's a teenage boy vs a grown man. It's not like Alexis hasn't shown him a few red flags. This movie gets crazier each minute watched. I never expect good acting on these movies but this is just awful. Yet I was given a pass on my screenplay was told it has been done before yeah no it hasn't. Sci-fi, Lifetime, and Hallmark movies literally confirms we can create similar movies and get away with it. Let me find some investors lol if movies such as this being made someone will produce my scripts. Are you serious? So I'm at the end, the dad is just stupid I can't with him. So everything done in the dark comes out in the light but IKYFL!!! This little girl was a nurse or volunteer aid killed this man's wife, his daughter's mother to be with him how many years later? And this fight scene if we can call it that is unbearable to look at. Who wrote this and how did they get financing? I think this is now one of the worse Lifetime movies I've seen.

The Ray Bradbury Theater: Let's Play Poison (1992)
Season 5, Episode 7
4/10
Wait! That's the ending?
24 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Definitely a waste of time. No one wants to see bullies in every generation get away with inflicting both mental and physical harm. The children and then the construction workers. What was the point of the story? That's been missing in a lot of these episodes- the point. There's no justification and or satisfying ending to the episodes. I love anthology series but most of the episodes in this series has left a bad taste in my mouth. This is season 6 so we're near the end I'm hoping the episodes improve so I didn't waste too much of my time watching this series. I thought this series would be a great watch boy was I wrong.

Old People (2022)
7/10
It's a horror movie at best
16 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Listen! I love critics on here who aren't writers but lurk screenwriter groups then use the jargon they've seen in their reviews. This is a horror movie and with that said character arcs aren't that important. When watching a horror movie just a smidge of who the characters are matters and only if it helps to move the story along. The only thing missing and I may have missed it was to give us more than the 'old people' are fed up with living like animals. Was it truly a spirit? That's what an article is suggesting however I didn't notice it being brought up but I may have missed it. An evil spirit introduced other than a title card caption would be great. This helps gives us a reason and not just the suggestion of the neglected going mad just because. The consistent comparison of zombies to the old people is aggravating in these reviews this only proves how closed minded most are when thinking outside the box. But who knows everyone comes up with their own perspective of what they see and hear. It was disturbing and horrifying due to for a long time when I was a child I had nightmares of 'old people' chasing me. At the end it was a pretty good send off. Films are supposed to make you think. Horror movies are supposed to leave you disturbed and uncomfortable I would say it accomplished what it set out to do. Love Like or hate it you watched it lol. The acting was average not bad. The film could have given us more to build the premise but overall it worked.

End of the Road (II) (2022)

See this is my type of film!
10 September 2022
Definitely My type of movie. It flowed well, it was a thrill ride for sure. The suspense kept me hooked from beginning to end. I wasn't too agitated by the characters. It was overall good acting. Though the plot was predictable it was entertaining. And last but not least I was pleased with the ending and not disappointed. 👍🏾 This movie showed A road trip that makes a lot of folks like me cringe. I'm hesitant to travel by vehicle, fearful of the sundown towns and running into folks that could be responsible for making me a missing person. I'll have to get a Gofund me to help ship my things to wherever I relocate too before traveling through areas like TX and OK. Anywhere there's backwoods mindsets residing.

Emergency (2022)
7/10
Watchable movie despite seeing a lot of whining reviewers.
30 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It ended well and it was watchable. I was expecting this to end like most crazy movies with no colorful cast and the drugged-up girl becomes dead because her friends decided they couldn't go to jail and risk their college life and or future careers. It was comical and ironic because in our households we would ask the same question 'What If'. There's no questions asked in today's society, some people are criminals even when they are the innocent. That's life. It's crazy sad looking at the comments on movies such as this arent' afraid of stating the obvious. If you feel that the movie is making a division and or being hateful and or racist by showing how people would act in an event such as this proves how people would respond based on how this society sees them then you're still living in this society with blinders on. Should we continue to sweep this ish under the rug because you need to feel better about yourself and not feel guilty about it, get over yourself. This is our society and we cannot move on if its never acknowledged and or learned and or shared, understood? How many movies have we seen that shows ppl of no color doing exactly this and worse? I have seen hundreds of them, where they are so called friends of the victim and they would cover up the bodies and or finish their friends off because they didn't want to deal with ruining their chance at their scholarship and or becoming a doctor after finishing college. What's the difference? Because its showing truth? Because racial disparities are highlighted in the film vs the all 'white' cast and privilege within that race is the bases of how they react in this same situation? People make dumb decisions that's reality, people don't react the way we think they should react under pressure, that's reality. What world are some of you living in? It was a watchable movie and the decisions made were done the same in every movie we've seen when we screamed back at the tv WHY? And no I am not an investor in this film besides my time lol.

Great watch real people real stories
16 January 2022
Great documentary. One of the best I've seen because of the real voices from real people. These moments in this documentary has strengthened our race of people. Sad, angered, frustrated yes but we are stronger because of all of the humanly emotions it has dragged us through. These are our truths and theirs... some rather cringe, cry, feel guilty vs acknowledging we are all still here dealing with the white supremacy ideologies of this society . These moments in time aren't that long ago... we are still going through this today. We know our histories and if they can celebrate the ones they're proud of they should be man and woman enough to be educated on the ones they're ashamed of.

The greatest sacrifice out of love
10 January 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Is not this.. Don't read if you don't like spoilers. This was predictable as soon as I read the synopsis and saw the trailer. An ending like The Good Son would have been the better twist off for me. A lot of folks mad about the child character not sure why there's plenty real life children exactly like this. This could be based on a true story ripped from the headlines in someone's newspaper. It was suspenseful enough even when I figured it out however I dislike these types of endings. I love feeling Justice has been served be it eye for an eye or the unpredictable court system.

Im disappointed. It had so much potential.
4 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Latest movie reviews

Black as Night could have been much better than what it was... I'm so disappointed with this movie. First, the plot was a good start to what I expected to be strong but it failed miserably. The characters were meh. Even the main character lacked the appeal to bring the movie alive. If there was a mix of humor and suspense it went over my head. So much potential and then SPLAT. From YouTube I saw the comments about the colorism aspect of this film... for whatever reason the writer wanted to make it relevant for the main character's dark skin to be discussed as an ugly feature? Yeah that wasn't my immediate distaste for the film. From the trailer I thought ok this is a normal thing for a teenager to say "not wanting to sit out in the sun too long and get blacker than what she was". But it kept going...they continued to reference her dark skin as ugly. Then had the nerve to compare her looks to Wesley yes Wesley Snipes. The writer: Sherman Payne, a black male writer wrote this overall cringeworthy script. Says a lot about his self reflection on dark skin. I'm still in disbelief this film got greenlit 🙄😑. I understand that everything was happening fast therefore the storyline moved quickly without gaining any weight to an inciting point in the movie. It was meh from beginning to end. Girl has self esteem issues , girl gets embarrassed by crush , girl has a dysfunctional family with a mom on drugs- still haven't coped with a catastrophic loss. Girl gets bit but never turns ... girl goes home to get her mom- at this point I think I was already losing hope. Girl finds out mom is bitten and tries to aid in helping her... girl gets attacked by mom and her mom catches on fire from the sunlight and falls out window. Now the daughter doesn't seem to bothered by this however it's her reason to go on a vengeful Vampire killing spree. Then we get a twist. Is that what it's supposed to be? A group of vampires whom hunt other vampires. Ok great now some excitement... welp still meh. A point I had to make: Due to vampires existing for hundreds of years sorry not sorry to those that find it cringing to hear how blacks were enslaved or hear racist remarks. HELLO it happened. Regardless if you want to erase our history because it makes you feel uncomfortable it's our truth and it's your truth... and no it wasn't a workforce program! They were slaves and they didn't get paychecks! They were beaten, raped, and murdered! Now back to the review: The main vampire- Finally a black man uses his supernatural abilities to kill his slave master not relatable to Candyman as we never got the details of him getting revenge on the people that actually murdered him in the first place. Then the vampires whom supposed to help bring down the head vampire but never gets the chance because the protagonist in this story wants to do it herself along with untrained vampire hunters... yeah not really just bystanders and friends pulled into this life they would rather forget. Poor Pedro... why didn't he stay behind like the brother and vampire historian? They throw in this tidbit about his decision to go to boarding school which by the way told us he was going to die... duh! Did I mention I was disappointed with this film?

Is this why remakes keep happening? Why?!?!?!?
21 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It had great potential and many opportunities to provide its audience with something worth watching. Unfortunately it did not deliver. First, the flashbacks weren't needed as they didn't help move the story. The characters weren't likable or entertaining therefore we didn't care if they lived or died. The plot failed on so many levels... the acting was ok not cringeworthy so that's a plus. Overall this movie could definitely be skipped.

18 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The movie was ok I got the storyline and the ending was a typical M. Night Shyamalan ending. It wasn't an OMG ending or plot that placed you on the edge of your seat throughout the film. I do agree the characters were aggy very slow in dialogue. The character, Prisca omg she was irritating but her slow to act and weaker than average husband really made me want him to disappear. The characters weren't appealing and I didn't root for them. I get that we are viewing characters suffering from health issues and they are placed in a situation whereas they wouldn't think sensibly or act sanely... unfortunately those character traits didn't help bring the story to life.

The Old Ways (II) (2020)
10/10
I really liked this film. Nothing negative to say at all.
28 August 2021
This was a by far one of my favorite exorcism films I've seen since the exorcist. I enjoy the Conjuring films but this brings us to a place and time of exactly what the title references The Old Ways. I appreciated the fact that it was at a pace that flowed effectively. It wasn't too much at once but just right and hitting every beat at the right time. The acting was good for the characters they portrayed. It wasn't under acting or overreacting. I didn't have any negative feelings towards the film. It was a relief to see a film such as this after watching a few in its genre that didn't live up to my expectations.

Warning: Spoilers
One of the best investments for indie films is Sound. I immediately noticed the poor sound quality and the need for an experienced DP. The story has a lot of holes and or flaws which made it harder to follow. The scenes that left me confused involved the church, friends with cats and the blind date - bus stop. These scenes could have been excluded and or edited to work with the plot. I just didn't see a need for them as neither brought the story any benefit. I would have liked to see the sisters being a centerpiece in the church showing the significance of being 'Deacon Daughters'. Overall it had potential to tell a great story.

Beckett (2021)
6/10
It had an interesting story and it's watchable... the reviews are as always bias.
14 August 2021
So I set out to watch Beckett when I saw the trailer awhile back. Then I was like I think this is going to be about something much more than what the trailer is giving off. I was right. No I didn't believe the two characters surrounding this story had good believable chemistry but was that really the basis of this film? No! The movie did hold my interest from the moment of the crash to see where this story would go and like another reviewer I did see the resemblance of Breakdown in this film. Again I don't watch movies to dissect them if I'm watching for entertaining purposes. Cinematography details really? I believe some reviewers are looking at Robert and Egert and other professional critics and literally using their opinions in their own reviews. I caught to many similarities. I guess some are using this platform as a portfolio. I didn't catch where the acting was so horrible. However I can say that it's not on a high scale for this type of movie. John David Washington is a very mellow actor. He leads with a personality of a nonchalant attitude and a playful sense of humor that was not needed in this role. Every actor should test their range. And to compare him to his father- Denzel whom in my opinion great actor yes but his range is not exceedingly competitive imo. Overall it's not a bad movie and I didn't regret watching it.

Warning: Spoilers
And I think...no I know I can create some short films along the way and get some investors because if films like this are being backed and put into production I can't fail. I just don't understand what I just watched and why. After awhile maybe as soon as they got to the island and headed to the waterfall I gave up. Grab me they did not. I literally laughed out loud when Sam turned around and then it was a joke at that point. I'm waiting for someone to jump out and scream GOTCHA! Where's the hidden cameras? Ugh. Now I want to read the script.

Hereditary (2018)

I watched it again just to see if I missed something.
10 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I guess I'm the old school lover of horror films. One that craves and or desires to be feared with anticipation of shock. Horror is not all supernatural but this film was more of a thriller with the thrown in supernatural elements of possession and demonic characterization. But definitely a thriller. A roller coaster of emotions surrounded by mental breakdown and loss. I think if it was left at mental derangement being it's final plot point and not the actualization of a demonic takeover ie. Shudder Island I would have liked it a lot more. The "everything isn't always what it appears to be" plot. This film just gave us too much but not enough. There was nothing to follow or anticipate because we didn't know what was happening no clues given until the end. And then we're like wait wtf is happening here? Now it's a supernatural demon possession plot with the demon trying to takeover before it has the ability too and folks being set on fire through some witchcraft or worshipping of the demon? No it's the demon that's doing all of this right? And because the demon was first in Charlie, it still inhabits Charlie's characteristics or is it Charlie that's in Peter with Paimon? It seems the director or writer needed a reference that would be significant so they used that clicking of the tongue. I guess and again too much but a lot of nothing. I gave it a 7 because I didn't not like it. I just think the hype of this being the best horror movie is a far reach. It's about demonic possession that didn't dig into it until the film decided ok this is what we're going with.

CGI ok bad but the writing is far worse.
4 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Every movie is not about wrong decisions being made. It could have just been a family going on a safari without a guide and being attacked. Following the rules but just being attacked. Stupid choices aren't always inevitable. The story and the acting I barely made it through til the end. The characters agitated me and there was nothing to really appreciate. All of that and then to deal with the storyline of poachers. Good thing they got their just reward main poacher got it the best. Karma is the best revenge served.

The rangers are real they go by the name 'Akashinga', which means 'the Brave Ones' in Shona. Phundundu is the first nature reserve in the world to be managed and protected by an all-women ranger unit. Awesome!! Take down these poachers the greed of man is sickening.

B movie no! This is a fail.
26 January 2021
Usually I'm the one saying the movie wasn't nearly as bad as what the reviews are saying. I enjoy B movies but this? Low budget yes, definitely not entertaining just straight cringeworthy. I was aggravated from the beginning before the attacks began. The acting from 90% of the cast was horrible. The plot- there was no plot. No storyline no character development. I think it would have been better to have just filmed with no dialogue at all. I can't believe this made it to production.

I was going to go into a movie review review but what's the point. I can't believe Bruce Willis turned down Expendables asking for more money and doing low budget films like this... what on earth did I just watch?!?! Of course I came to IMDB before the movie ended just to see the reviews. The title for the 1st review I saw had me in tears, laughing so hard. Based on the reviews, I think I got more entertainment by just reading them. And others noticed Bruce's acting was bad but I really believe it's the writing. The dialogue that was horrible maybe he's doing it to help up and coming writers and directors lol.

Omg it's a B movie! Independent film... what are ppl looking for?
1 December 2020
Ok here we go again me critiquing the critics... really people? You are literally looking for this film to give you spot on real life what a trained security guard would do? Now that's laughable. Guess what You're watching a B movie, not budgeted for the big screen. It's entertaining at best. I didn't cringe on the acting or the film and it's camera movements boo hoo hoo. I've seen trailers that literally show up bad acting and filming as a warning Lol if you don't get that from this film's trailer then you're just in it for the critique. And it was, an action film... who's literally paying attention to real life comparisons of trained Ex military secret servicemen and skilled hit men and or security. I suggest stop watching B movies altogether if you're thinking this movie is such a cringeworthy film.

Overall it delivered on its premises and there was gun play, blood, fight scenes and death and the acting was good And what I generally expect from a B movie. 👍🏾

It's watchable and I've seen worse
29 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I keep seeing 'teens' but it's stated more than once they 'were' in high school. Yeah I don't get the 'very bad acting' I've seen a lot worse. There are moments though that a character here Or there literally makes me cringe but it's not throughout the entire film. The concept is good and there was a point of clarity In the film. I haven't focused on the editing and film direction especially if it's not in my face that's just wasteful time. As a B horror movie lover it was good and not just ok. The score to be settled was to Murder everyone while giving them hope they would survive the game. Hint: Mr. Peterson aka the Old science teacher does tell them they'll be only 'one' left at the end. I guess technically that's not a lie. Also it was better to find out who was the Cold blooded murderer from high school that gave Caleb the overdose of speed. Like most horror movies they don't give you a reason to like the characters as they set them up to just be victims with no true character base. I enjoyed watching the wanna be Patrick Bateman of the film get his just deserved. The only character I felt bad for was Caleb. As he was a victim Of the privileged teenager with a cop for a dad getting away with murder. Overall it's a watchable movie.
