North and South (1985)
They took a precious life work of a good author and made a cheesy soap opera out of it.
I love the actors but the plot is not good. The books are soo much better, I have no idea why they decided to leave out important characters such as Cooper out, and make Virgillia a beautiful and sensitive woman which she actually isn't. Yes, we all love Kirstie Alley, but her character has nothing to do with pigheaded Virgillia! And they have also changed how she mets her husband. And the story of Priam is also completely different. Priam is caught and killed in the books, it's significant to the story. All the physical features of characters are different from those in the trilogy. Orry is tall, thin and romantic. George is small, strong, and smart. They represent the features of their regions. Also that cheesy maintheme which they ripped from Gone With The Wind is playing again and again at every single emotional scene until you can't hear it anymore. And why does Orry has his arm still, because it was destroyed and amputated in Texas. No, I'm not impressed at all with how they took a precious life work of a good author and made a cheesy soap opera out of it. I watched it for the actors because they were really good.
Stonehenge Apocalypse (2010)
If this movie had been made in the 80's ...
...it would have been a cult picture today. However, been made in the 2010's, one would expect a little bit less cliché and slightly more sophisticated FX. However, the plot is a nice one. It's no Space Oddyssey but it's a nice popcorn sci-fi. I liked it. And the actors were also giving it.
Supernatural: Defending Your Life (2011)
Badly written
Especially the end is idiotic. Window glass cracks falls off completely and the wind is so strong that it swipes the salt from the floor yet the room is filled with explosive gas from the stove within minutes? Despite there is a big open window two steps next to it? Come on!
The Last Kingdom (2015)
Doesn't Lord Aethelhelm remind you of...
... Lord Blackadder? I cannot help myself, I always have to think about Blackadder. Anyway they have changed the course of the novels a bit again but it's soo great. I love both versions, the books as well as the series.
Robin Hood (2018)
Robin Hood is already an absurd myth...
... and this movie was more than absurd. But I like the style. And all the scenes and the acting and all the effects were perfect. I don't know why people didn't like it. It's a very good popcorn movie.
The Expanse: The One-Eyed Man (2019)
Great plot but...
... Steven Strait in the background in the Bar scene (14:25) or someone who extremely resembles him causes a negative distraction. In general the plot calls 'Blindness' by Saramago to mind.
Mortal Engines (2018)
A children's movie after all
It was a children's novel series, so one shouldn't be surprised too much if the story isn't deep enough. Much of the framework was copied from Fallout anyway. Except the riding cities. But I don't remember any Anna Fang from the books. Good CGI work though.
