Chalkskin 10 (2016)
Mixed Presentation of Intriguing Conversation
While during the four years the amount of "Chalkskin" you get is a mixed bag, the interviews are always sound and intriguing, well researched and emotionally compelling.
Of course. . . That's just what I think. I'm the host, writer, director, and executive producer. I just really wanted a good review to kick us all off, and getting any kind of review at this stage in my career is hard enough.
Just do me a favor. Check out the show. I think you'll like it.
And if you're curious how a guy with no major credits or real credibility could book George R.R. Martin, William Daniels, Man of Action, MC Frontalot, MC Lars, Paul and Storm, Sandeep Parikh, Greg Benson, or Eisner-Award winning cartoonist Terry Moore, please head over to wolfinwool.com and check out the behind-the-scenes documentary.
American Movie (1999)
One of My Favorite Movies
Incidentally, it's tied at first with "Ghostbusters" and "It's a Wonderful Life." "Mike, why do you make movies?" "Well, because Mark makes movies. He's my friend, and I value his friendship." Each time I watch this movie, I get something new from it. The first time I saw it, I have to admit, I was a bit shell shocked by Mark and Mike and was set aback to ridicule them a little. The second time, I was drawn in by Mark's vision, and I saw the talented filmmaker struggling against a lack of opportunities. The third time, I saw it more as a study of Mark himself, as he struggled against his own flaws (his alcoholism, how he takes advantage of everyone in his life so he can make his movie, his fear of success). Other times I saw it as a metaphor for American life, as a real life "The Ecstasy and the Agony," as the shift in American cinema to the indie, as a philosophical look inward.
Ultimately, I think it's a story about friendship and passion.
Of course, the next time I watch it, I'll probably change my mind about that.
Inheritance (2006)
A Bold, Special Film
In the company of "Capturing the Friedman's," this is a film that could never be repeated. And let's hope there are no more opportunities to do so in the future.
My heart was pounding the entire time I watched this film. I felt for both women, and I awaited passions to boil over with the breath hanging in my throat. Surely, these are two women seeking some sense of resolution or closure, but are they seeking it from one another?
If you haven't already viewed this film, I recommend "Schindler's List" and "Hitler's Children" as prerequisites. They will help frame the content that you will be witnessing in this film.
Hot Coffee (2011)
Everyone Should Watch This Film
If you ever wondered how a whole generation could succumb to a corporation's jingoism, Hitler's ideology, or a cult's Kool-Aid offering, you'll at least learn how we ourselves already have the hook in our mouths from this incredible study of how our government takes away our rights because we all think it's the right thing for them to do.
This film is a shock to the system, and as though I had gulped down a steamy hot cup of coffee, I could not sleep after watching it.
It's crazy to see the truth when the lies have become common sense. I will never look at the world the same way again.
