Animaniacs: Wakko's Wish (1999)
Not as good as the TV series, but still enjoyable
When I first heard the plot for "Wakko's Wish", I was a bit skeptical at first. It sounded like a typical kid's flick- the kind of movie where the parents are busy and the kids need to be babysat by Uncle Television for a while. But, being a fan of "Animaniacs", I decided to give it a watch. The film's lead star is Wakko, who is worried at the fact that his sister, Dot, is ill with an unknown disease, and he and his brother, Yakko, do not have any money for treatment. Feeling desperate, Wakko wishes on a star, resulting in having a fairy come down and tell him that he has selected the one and only wishing star, and that the first person to touch the star will get one wish granted. Now, the entire town is racing to get to the wishing star first. The film's music, animation, and voice acting is great, but it seams that the main problem with this film is that it doesn't quite capture the spirit of "Animaniacs". The characters' personalities are different, and it has some very touching moments that the series lacked, which I actually enjoyed. There are a couple cute little scenes of sibling love with the siblings, particularly with Yakko and Dot. In short, Wakko's Wish is a nice little film, but I wouldn't watch it unless you are a fan of "Animaniacs."
Felidae (1994)
Creepy... but good!
I came across "Felidae" when my friend and I were surfing the internet for dark and creepy animated films. Beings Americans, we were not familiar with this animated film from Germany. I wanted to take a look at it, but my friend didn't want to, saying it "looked boring and stupid." I made a deal with her: watch it when we got home, and tell each other what we thought the next day. So I got home and looked up Felidae on YouTube, luckily finding an English dub. I must say, I was shocked. When they said dark, they meant DARK. I couldn't believe it- blood, guts, profanity, and even a cat mating scene! I had just watched a murder mystery with cats! Aside from all the gross stuff, I have to say that I am impressed. The story is well written, the characters are 3- dimensional, and the animation is quite good. When I found my friend the next day, I asked her, "Did you like it?" She replied, "I couldn't get past the blind cat getting decapitated." As you can see, this film is NOT for the faint of heart and NOT for children, but it is a treat for adults, especially if you are a murder mystery fan. Go check it out, it's worth the watch!
Pinky and the Brain (1995)
One of the best animated shows ever made!
I love this show! It is cute, funny, has great animation, and two wonderful main characters! Pinky and the Brain spun off from the show "Animaniacs", which, I might add, is also wonderful. They are two talking lab mice who's main goal is to take over the world. Their plans always seem to fail, but that doesn't stop them from trying again. This show is also chalked full of jokes for both children and adults alike. Kids will laugh at Pinky's stupidity, while adults will spot the clever pop culture and celebrity references. I highly recommend this show to anyone, especially animation fans. Are you pondering what I'm pondering? If you're pondering that Pinky and the Brain is a great show, then yes I am! Give it a watch!
