My reaction to the film is simple-WOW. I have read Fs to As on the film and decided to see it myself. thank goodness I did. it is a spectacle pure and simple. the singing was mixed, but the masterful songs you cannot get out of your head. it haunts you profoundly. I loved the cinematography and the costume design. the scenery is so lush and beautiful it was worth the price of admission. expect Oscar noms for best costume design, cinematography etc. perhaps a nom for best picture. some scenes seemed to drag on a bit, but the spectacular settings and ultimate climaxes with the chandelier falling and phantom's own demise. a wonderful, escapist film. highly recommended. 3 out of four stars. art in Texas
