Bandish Bandits (2020)
Don't go by the posters, It's way beyond a rom-com
Well, if you look at the poster if it, it looks like a rom-com, but is much more than that.. It gives a great insight on The Indian Classical Music, Gharanas, fusion and much more.
Well being a fan of action, Thriller and Crime Drama, I, generally, enjoy series like Mirzapur, Sacred games, Mafia, asur, Abhay and Hostages and to be very frank I loathed Made in Heaven and Chacha Vidhayak hai humare.. (Kinda Enjoyed Pitchers, But I guess because it was the first Web series I ever watched).. But this one is exceptionally good..
It's an upbeat and motivational web series which would end up giving a smile on your faces....
Must watch
Deewana (1992)
He came, He conquered, he ascended the throne and rest is history
Ok, Deewana was a typical 90s movie-maybe an amazing movie for that time- but SRK shone like a star.. For a debutante, He did a more than an outstanding job.. a rich spoilt brat to an obsessed lover, a loving husband to a good hearted man..That's Raja Sahai (SRK) for you in deewana...
Sanju (2018)
Sanju.. one man, many lives. Raju.. One filmmaker, many blockbusters
"Ladies and gentlemen, Kursi ki pethi bandh lijiye, mausam bigadne wala hai" ("Ladies and Gentlemen, please fasten your seatbelts, the weather condition is getting critical"). Sanju is another master stroke by Raju Hirani & Abhijaat Joshi. Well, I've seen each and every movie of Rajkumar Hirani and almost every movie of Vidhu Vinod Chopra. I've noticed one thing, each and every movie of Raju is though a blockbuster, but unlike other namesake blockbusters (not to mention race 3), Rajkumar Hirani gives us an experience to be remembered for a lifetime. Raju is a magician who can show the darkest topic in the lightest way. He took a dig on the problems in India like Medical procedures, Violence, Education system, Religion and now on media. I am sure, if a dark movie like Parinda, Vaastav or Satya is remade by Rajkumar Hirani, he will also make it light hearted and will make them, make us smile. Similarly here, we all know how dark and difficult Sanjay Dutt's life has been. But the movie is so light, no one would feel uncomfortable for a second (The strip search scene and the toilet scene might)
Now about SANJU.
Ok, I'll be very frank here. This year, I saw around 5 movies in theatre (3 Bollywood and 2 Hollywood)
Bollywood movies I've seen are: Padmaavat, Race 3 and Sanju
Hollywood: Deadpool 2 & Avengers: infinity war
Well, Padmavat was a one time watch, Deadpool 2 was amazing, Infinity war was, again, outstanding. Race 3 was pathetic and then Sanju.
Out of them I would love to watch Deadpool 2, Avengers: Infinity War and Sanju again and again.
(Well I've a lot of words to praise the Hollywood movies, but since this is about Sanju so I'll review Sanju here)
1.DIRECTION: Well, Rajkumar Hirani, the name is enough. One of the best filmmakers in India, he has gifted us amazing movies like, Munna Bhai MBBS, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, 3 idiots, P.K. And now Sanju. Sanjay Dutt's life has been full of controversies and troubles, from drug problems to Underworld connections, his life has been very dark and Sad. However, Raju portrayed the darkness in a very light and motivational manner. Some sequences like Sanju, high on drugs, hallucinating and his dream speech are damn awesome, a bone-chilling experience. Trust me on this, if the name Rajkumar Hirani is linked with the movie, don't miss the movie. Go and watch it blindly.
2. PERFORMANCES: SONAM KAPOOR CAN ACT. This was the first sentence I uttered after I saw her on camera. Even she had given her best for a cameo. Ranbir Kapoor is undoubtedly one of the finest Commercial actors in Bollywood. He did full justice to Sanju Baba in the movie. He impersonated Dutt in all ways, walk, talk style.. everything. Another important role was done by Vicky Kaushal. If you've seen Masaan, Raghav Raman, Love per square feet and(or) Raazi, You are well aware, who Vicky Kaushal is. A fine actor with amazing performances, Vicky is certainly the future of Bollywood. His performance in Sanju was mind blowing. Paresh Rawal was another amazing thing that happened to the movie. Paresh Rawal, we all know has mastered his skills in Comedy and villianous Roles, but portraying the role of Sunil Duttji was the best thing he did in the history of Bollywood (I am not underestimating his roles of Babu Rao Ganpat Rao Apte and Sardar Patel as both were phenomenal). Most of the characters in the movie were Cameos, which included Anushka Sharma, Jim Sarbh, Sonam Kapoor, Sayaji Shinde, Boman Irani, Karishma Tanna and many more. And I must say, the cameos did their work awesomely. One must watch this movie for amazing and extra ordinary performances.
3.STORYTELLING: As we can make out from the teaser and trailer itself, Sanju portrays Sanjay Dutt in various Phases of his life. From a drug addict youth, to a man who keeps a gun to protect his family, to a man who is accused of Terrorism. The story escalates very rhythmically and without any over dramatic scenes. The portrayal of Sanjay Dutt in each and every phase of his life is shown beautifully and the way narration goes, it is gripping.
4.BABA HIMSELF: how can it be, if Rajkumar Hirani is making a movie on Baba and Baba doesn't show up?? The real Sanjay Dutt do have a cameo role, he has an item song with Ranbir Kapoor, "Bas Kar". Well wouldn't it be amazing, if you see both Babas, the reel life and the real life one together after such an amazing roller coaster ride. Well I generally leave the theatre during the end credit promotional songs, but here, I sat, just to see Sanju Baba.
Now the negative part.
There was only one negativity in the movie. There were some scenes which were dragged and boring (for me) like the scene where Sunil Dutt convinces Sanjay Dutt to stay away from underworld and where Sanjay Dutt tries to convey a message to his friend Kamlesh via radio. These and some other scenes gave me a yawn. But these were only, more or less 5% of the movie.. rest 95% of the movie was astoundingly amazing.
I would like to conclude this review by saying.
If you are a Sanjay Dutt's fan, you'll end up being Ranbir Kapoor's fan; if you are a Ranbir Kapoor's fan, you'll end up being a Sanjay Dutt's and if you are a fan of both, You'll have the best cinematic experience and if you are a fan of neither, two celebs will have a new fan, after you watch Sanju
A MUST WATCH
9.5/10
Bole to, ekdum Raapchik hai Maamu
Race 3 (2018)
This is not a sequel but a combined remake of Race 1, 2 and Hum saath saath hai
We all know that, in late 90s, Salman worked mainly in family films and in late 00s, he did action. And now, when 10s decade is At it's last phase, I feel, Salman Decided to work in a movie which would be an action family movie, so THE LENGENDARY Race 3.
Movie takes the elements of both Races (1 & 2) and HSSH and shows it in the most pathetic and cringeworthy possible.
Elements:
Race: Step-siblings, faking death etc
Race 2: Heist, shades of antagonist
HSSH: Joint family, problems between the siblings
You can say while carving the movie Race, the remaining wastage which was assembled together to make race 2 and the wastage of race 2 was assembled and wastage of HSSH was added to make race 3.
PATHETIC, BORING, MINDLESS, PREDICTABLE AND CRINGWORTHY. These are just few words to honour the movie. Movie had some very pathetic performances, pathetic dialogues, pathetic songs with pathetic lyrics (Heeriye is a good number though) & pathetic storyline. The movie was too slow to be called entertaining, I didn't understand half of the story, no not because it had a very complex and out of the world story, just like that of Nolan's movies, but because I had a good sleep during the movie. Plus songs were so frequent and long that you can't help but sleep, so if you have trouble in sleeping or are insomniac. Please go for Race 3. It was an all and all Salman Khan movie, so I don't need to say how mindless it would be (But movies like tere naam, Saajan and Bajrangi Bhaijaan were way awesome). Twists were too damn predictable, Race series is known for amazing thrills and out of the world twists, but this one had none, yeah the last twist was good, but not amazing as that was also kind of predictable. The dialogues, the songs, the lyrics, the acting, the action scenes... everything about this movie was criminally cringeworthy.
The best thing about the movie was Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor. Saif Ali Khan is missed badly and so is Abbas-Mastan.
I request Ramesh Taurani, that if he is in a mood to make Race 4, please continue the Race 2 story and bring back Saif. Let Bobby be there, we have no problem.
I've only one suggestion for you guys. There is a plethora of good movies, Avengers Infinity wars is still running in the theatres. Jurassic World is running. And if nothing, than please save your cash for Sanju, rather than watching this masterpiece of mud.
In my honest opinion, movies like Ek tha tiger, PRDP, Khiladi 786 and even loha and Gunda are like citizen Kane, Titanic, Godfather and the Shawshank redemption in front of this movie
Completely avoidable
Begum Jaan (2017)
One word: pathetic
OK, we think of a Movie, movie based on feminism, Movie starring A Phenomenal actress like Vidya Balan. Movie which is based on a sensitive event like the partition, The first thing which comes in mind is... OK, we'll go for it.. But when we go and watch a nonsense going on in front of you, it's quite irking
Plot line is simple... Story of 11 prostitutes, one abused girl, one small kid, one old lady, one loyal pimp, one honest ex cop and one school master They live and spend majority of their time In a Brothel.. after the events of partition, they are asked to evacuate, but they refuse. It causes a soft, at times hard conflict between the prostitutes and the govt.
Pros:
1. Vidya Balan's amazing performance 2. Re introduction of amazing actors like Ashish Vidyarthi, Ila Arun, Chunky Pandey & Pitobash Tripathy 3. Bollywood debut of one of my favorite directors, Srijit Mukherjee (Autograph fame)
Cons:
1. Too Many irrelevant characters 2. Too much darkness 3. Too predictable 4. Full of absurdity 5. Failed attempt to bring tears in audiences' eyes 6. Portrayal of a negative image of feminism 7. Many unnecessary dialogues and R-Rated language 8. Tag line might create misconceptions amongst young ladies
Recently, we saw many Hindi movies on women empowerment like Dangal, Pink and naam Shabana.. amongst them Dangal was the best and Pink was second...
Naam Shabana was quite a stupid movie (when compared to it's predecessor "Baby") but still not as pathetic as Begum jaan
Truly, I wasn't interested in giving this movie a single star. But that single star is for the amazing performances by Chunky Pandey and Vidya Balan.
If you ask me, I'll say, save your money for Bahubali: the conclusion. Don't waste your hard earned money and time on this trash
My review: begum jaan - Avoidable
