Phantasm (1979)
An original example of brilliant survival horror.
Saw this first one after sneaking in to the drive-in as a teen. Got totally drawn in with its dreamy ,feel and the great tension/release pursuits of the Tall man. This is the start of a real journey with the other 4 films and if you relax, turn the lights down and go with it, you can lose yourself on an original horror road trip with Reggie as your wing man.
The Autopsy of Jane Doe (2016)
Everything a horror movie should be.
What a cracker. Fabulous cast and a genuinely creepy old school ambience. Only reason I can't give it 10 is the slightly unsatisfactory resolution. Felt it deserved a better dénouement. Still, you won't fail to get a few jumps out of this one.
Cohen and Tate (1988)
Underacknowledged noir.
Roy is in awesome form here as the professional crim with a job to do and no time for his loudmouth psychopath offsider. The kid is great too as the plucky victim. Dark and tense, great late night fare.
Zero Charisma (2013)
Cracking little independent.
Really refreshing to see a flick that demonstrates so amply what can be achieved with just a good script.Solid characterization and some truly great moments for those who like their comedy with cringe.Fell down a little in the denouement, but clever pop culture referencing comedy with some genuine heartfelt moments. Especially interesting for those of us who grew up in the era of D&D, before video games ruled the earth, but not essential to have been there to get it.I haven't come across this group of actors before other than a the odd bit part, but there is the makings of an interesting ensemble cast here I think. Keen to see where some of the people who made this go from here.
