Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022)
Slow pacing and rushed ending
I understand that when you watch a Starwars movie simply turn off your brain and laugh at the logical flaws and not try to understand character decisions. But the final episode is so dumb the writers should be ashamed.
I was into to it until I found out episode 6 is the last episode. The final conflict between antagonist and the protagonist felt so undeserved and unsatisfying.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
It's okay but I expected more
If you're interested in knowing what happened after the great machine war in Matrix 3. It's still fun to watch.
If you start to compare the plot, cinematography and dialogue it kinda falls apart. The viewer relationship to the characters is purely built on nostalgia which isn't enough to make you care about the conclusion of the plot. Added to that you have wierd dialogue options that feels completely out of character for both Neo and Trinity. At a certain point they say stuff in a way that you'd hear from a 80's movie.
Some how the fight scenes feels less refined than the previous Matrix titles. If you watched the first Matrix you could almost feel the impact of each hit and the filming captured everything beatifully. This movie does not do that.
Ojing-eo geim (2021)
Liked this one a lot
If you liked Alice in Borderland then this is a good bet! Likable (well most of them) characters, suspenseful and just a fun concept in general.
The Manor (2021)
Why did they greenlight this?
I don't think they had the budget to pull this off. The poor writing, CGI, soundtracks, cinematography and acting makes it feel like a movie made on 3 bucks. Laughable plot twist in the end. They could have atleast read the script and realized it sucked.
If you watch this movie you will walk away with nothing of value.
Midnight Mass (2021)
Slow burner with emphasis on slow
You know what you can expect when you've seen The haunting of Hill House and The haunting for Bly Manor. It's a slow burner with a great unraveling at the end.
My only gripe was repetetive and dragged out religious dialogue. In the end i just found my self skipping through those parts without missing anything essential to the story.
Bad Boys for Life (2020)
Soulless
Boring to the point that it makes you fall asleep. Any attempt at humour falls flat. The supporting cast feels like cameos rather than characters that adds to the story.
The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf (2021)
The plot feels like a side quest
Comparatively to the main storyline it feels like it doesn't have the same attention to detail. With that said it's still worth watching but keep your expectations low. Fantastic animation though.
The Huntsman: Winter's War (2016)
Atrocious dialog
It feels like everyone in this fictional world is an NPC blurting out random a dialog. Any attempts at jokes fall flat. Actors did what the could but the script just sucks.
The Flash (2014)
If you don't like plot armor don't watch this
The problem with The Flash is that he has the most over powered ability there is. There are billions of times Barry can just run up to the villian in super speed and knock them out. He has no problem dealing with bullets but two guys with freezer and flame guns is a problem? Ok.
All villains powers PALES infront of super speed and this just leaves me sweating with frustration. It sucks.
Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness (2021)
Not worth watching
The overall impression of this series is "corny". It feels like a bad imitation of a US military conspiracy plot that has been told so many times and better.
A military operation in panamistan is the center piece of this story. It is gradually exposed each episode which means a lot of flash backs and even rerunning parts you've already seen. I found myself fast forwarding each time it came to that.
Summarized I would recommend watching this to anyone.
Bloodshot (2020)
It's not as bad as the review bombers make it out to be
This is a Vin Diesel action flick so you know what you can expect, it's definitively worth adding to your watch list if you're into the action genre. It's packed with decent CGI and has a pretty cool plot twist half way through.
Awake (2021)
Leaning on the bad side
Imo it had the quality you expect from a typical Netflix production, below average in everything. This one didn't give any closure / epilogue, it just ended abruptly. It's not HORRIBLE but I wished for more and better use of some of the characters introduced.
Sweet Tooth (2021)
Ends with a giant cliff hanger
It's definitively worth watching. Kinda disappointed that season 1 ended with no resolution to what it has been building up to, ie a giant cliff hanger. There is also too much reliance on the kid making dumb moves to advance the plot, so you'll low key hoping for the kid to get flayed by hunters.
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)
It's a dragged out movie
Kinda liked that it was more directed towards criminal investigation of a villain and not a flat out haunted house with the solution settled in the past of the ghost. However theres a lot of talking, finding clues and going places. Watched it in theater and among the audience there was a lot of sighs and checking watches which should say something about the movie.
If you're expecting the kind of horror and unsettling tone that was in Insidious you won't find it here.
Jakob's Wife (2021)
The trailer betrays you
It had an interesting setup - A priest married to a woman that has become a vampire. What it did with it was just terrible. It feels like a movie with a 3 dollar budget.
Ragnarok (2020)
Captivating but not amazing
Don't get into this expecting some grand battle between norse gods and giants. It feels more like a cat and mouse game where the giants are disguised as mortals and using the modern day societal structures (teachers, police, psychiatrists etc) to close in on the protagonist.
The acting, cinematography and pace is more or less good.
Superman & Lois (2021)
Superman but with focus on Clark Kent
Watched up to the latest episode (6).
This doesn't follow the usual hero formula. The hero part of Superman is more of a explanatory factor for the problems that goes on his family life. It's kinda reminiscent of Smallville. Here you will see Clark's family deal with consequences that comes with having Superman as a husband and a father of twin sons.
For the most part I liked the pacing a lot and has a good balance between action and drama, giving it a 10/10 in hopes for more!
American Gods (2017)
Slow burner with emphasis on slow
I'm 8 episodes in season 1 and I must say the pace in this show sucks. The overarching story is some what interesting but keeps getting side tracked by introducing different gods and their backstories. Backstories that doesn't even add value to the main story line and causes the episodes to feel extremely dragged out and a lotta nothing happening.
And it doesn't help that the main story line is slow paced too.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021)
It's like reading the news, it's depressing
I don't mind there being political messages in a show. I'm for the message the show is conveying but it feels like it was a lot less about the character development it was focusing on the beginning and more about the political message. It was a big chance to give Winter soldier and Falcon more depth as characters and instead it went all in on the struggles of being a black super hero. It took the spotlight from the show, the subplots and the villain.
Reading the news is a good way to make anybody depressed. Racism is just depressing and super hero shows is usually a good way to take a break from reality.
Them (2021)
It's worth watching
Binge watched it on one day and overall impression is pretty good. It's a slow burner but it builds up to a good ending. My only gripe is the time spent on developing a character that has already served its' impact on the story.
Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
Good but not great
Relative to the first Justice League version this movie is gold. You get more backstory to the Justice League characters. Darkseid and his intentions are presented but it's not nuanced or gives a deeper understanding of his character. I guess it will come in future movie releases.
Also whenever wonderwoman is on screen: AAAAUUUEEEEUEUEUEUE.
Coming 2 America (2021)
The score is fabricated - should be 2/10
This is on par with the modernised ghostbusters. You won't laugh a single time and the story will bore you out of your mind.
Split (2016)
Not nearly as good as the reviews tell you
Great acting overall but god damn I couldn't care less about the protagonist flash backs if I knew how it tied to the ending. It's an okay movie but the writing won't blow your mind like the reviews tell you
Seuwiteuhom (2020)
There was potential
I wish they either waited for better funding to the project or split the script in two seasons to tell the whole story. They tried to cram in the whole story along with heavy changes into 10 episodes. The problem with this is:
- Everyones character arc is watered down along with Cha Hyun-Su.
- The epic finale from the comics is reworked into some kind of military crap which is the default of every pandemic movie.
- The dark tone of the comic is reworked into the lines of an action movie rather than horror. Everytime something happens they spam Warriors by Imagine Dragons.
Also whats up with the wierd camera cuts/jumps that happens all the time. It's like they skip 5 seconds forward during action scenes and you lose track of what's going on.
Gretel & Hansel (2020)
Do not bring your date to this movie.
Your partner will abandon you if you put her/him through something like this. Excruciatingly slow movie with no meaningful adaptions to a very old and widely known story. If you're not one of those who spend time admiring "good camera angles" it will be a terrible experience.
