Bodyguard (2018)
Best of British Crime Drama
Gripping from start to finish. Despite living true to the twists and turns of of a classic crime drama, there is profound character development across the board which really keeps engaged with most characters. Each episode leaves you questioning what you think, and each character until the end.
Most impressive is the portrayal of protagonist David Budd's psyche. Being confronted with his compassion and loyalty from the get go, you later find yourself questioning his character throughout the series and sometimes his luck. However, as all excellent screenplays succeed in doing, they make you empathise with the protagonist and fall in love with their nature.
As other reviewers have rightly pointed out, there are some inconsistencies and questionable confessions which are hard to believe at the end which seemed like they were tying up loose ends. But even this was quite a shocking turn of events, if not at the very least a final twist.
All in all, thoroughly enjoyed and a brilliant mini-series.
1883: The Fangs of Freedom (2022)
Her innocence stripped. Goosebumps.
The first two episodes had me almost clapping for at the level of film making but this episode has taken the cake for everything.
Superb superb superb writing, cinematography and acting. Watching the dramatic end of this episode it is almost easy to forget the development of elsa and ennis throughout it and even the speech james gives to ennis. A coming of age moment for the young man...gone and at the cost of the elsa's innocence.
The shoot out scene at the end was a bit underwhelming but that isn't what warrants my 10/10.
