Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)
Retirement Parties are ALWAYS SAD!
To Steven Spielberg and George Lucas --
I had to give your film a second chance (as the first time I saw it in theaters , my friend talked throughout the entire film) . As per the second viewing, I came to the following understandings. The film is based too much off of the good times that once were... and the sad times that now exist throughout the Hollywood Film Industry. I am convinced that Hollywood takes cinematic geniuses and loads them up with too high-budget of financial compensation to where the prodigy's that once were are overtaken by whatever conglomerates foresee blockbuster expectations.
I do not relate this movie to your first three successes. It is more of a high-budget retirement party than a good film. Congratulations -- if that is what you wish to achieve.
From an editors standpoint, the movie is clouded with more-than-necessary CG than a plot. Indiana Jone's quality in the past was his willingness to sleep with a member of the Nazi regime because she was hot -or- his former fling of the past in order to accomplish his own purpose. Forgive the Jack Daniels, but it speaks the truth. The next time you produce/direct a movie - do it for your own vision rather than for a demographic.
You lost the faith in many people.
To Harrison Ford -- You have great abilities. Your talent in the past has always been entertaining. In the future, read the script before you commit to it.
Thanks all! And better luck in future endeavors!
To George Lucas Only -- CG doesn't mean better! Particularly when a plot-line lacks! (eg- Last 3 of Star Wars! Your early talent; however has been groundbreaking in the film industry! Go back to your roots!
Haunted House (2004)
Production Quality is Soooo Bad
If you're reading this review, you were probably like me and saw an eye-catching DVD Box at your video rental store and thought it would be worth a shot. Well, the box cover of Asylum Entertainment's 'Haunted House' is the only promising part of the next 90 minutes of poor quality production you are about to witness.
This is not the first time Asylum Entertainment's box covers have caught my eye... indeed. last week, I rented 'Lady in a Box' and another movie I can;'t remember the name of. What I learned in this week is NEVER rent another movie with Asylum Entertainment in the lower back right corner.
The production quality is so horrifying, especially to view as a video production student. The camera-work, shot on prosumer digital video, is choppy and unmotivated. The lighting looks like it was shot in some studio out in California. The characters are worse than any soap opera I've seen on daytime television.
Don't waste your time...and don't encourage video rental stores like Hollywood and Blockbuster to put this crap on the shelves.
Human Nature (2004)
The DVD Audio is Horrific
I didn't watch all of this movie because (a) the video quality and lighting were horrific , but most importantly.... the audio on the DVD was not mastered properly which gives me a poor impression of how this movie would turn out.
The audio was peaked too high, leaving the viewer hearing a static in the background. Likewise, when scenes changed, you'd hear the static cut off, and then cut back on again during fade-in's/fade-out's. If the editor ever reads this comment, LEARN ABOUT AUDIO LEVELS!!!
It ruined the entire movie...not that it was promising anyways. I learned a few lessons about judging DVD's by it's cover.
