Away We Go (2009)
3/10
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having watched Away We Go...
15 January 2010
What a complete and utter disappointment. I enjoy so many of these actors, and they do a credible job, but the story is just so disjointed and the transitions are missing or overwhelming. Allison Janey's character is nails on the chalkboard. Ultimately the main love relationship just isn't believable, the chemistry isn't there. The dude from the Office looks like a cavemen with the whitest teeth in the world, please pick one or the other, it's just too confusing... I have to confess after almost turning it off twice, I did happily fall asleep at the 2/3rds mark. In general I do enjoy this type of film more than most men, so that's really not mitigating. Even though it had it's issues, The Ugly Truth was much more enjoyable, although it did purposely appeal to a male audience more.

Inconceivable that this movie won any awards...
30 August 2007
I just don't get it, I watch a lot of movies, with special attention to the horror genre, and this was just painful to watch. Don't buy the award hype. At least with Godzilla you know you're in for a campy romp. This movie is portrayed as a quality film by critics and that's why I'm having such a hard time with it. The monster was stupid. The dialogue was very much of the Godzilla Japanese shtick. The incredulous factor was off the charts. UGH, I wanted to punch someone who gave it a good review after paying for this bag of expletive. If you want "monster" entertainment without the expectation of an award winning film, check out The Cave.

Dark Harvest (2004 Video)

some horror movies are SO damn awful bad, they're amusing! (SPOILERS)
25 February 2005
Warning: Spoilers
DO not take this film seriously, rent it with some folks who want to play Mystery Science 3000, and you will probably laugh your butts off. The evil guys are so not scary, it's funny, it's like some dude from 7th grade with a sickle in a scarecrow get up. The acting is hilarious. I love the occasional self torture with a poor horror film and this really had me giggling. I recommend it on that basis. Of course recreational drugs will enhance the experience. Oh, there is a naked group swimming scene, that will allow for some star dust on the 5 star system. The token black male gets injured badly, but continues his joking as well as using the injured body part quite readily throughout. Enjoy this complete and utter disgrace to films.

the most profound film on the topic of rape I've ever seen...
20 January 2005
I think every man should see this movie! NO LIE, it changed me profoundly forever. It's a fact, men fantasize about rape. Well if you watch this captivating and shocking film, and still wonder about actualizing your fantasy you should seek professional help. It's okay to fantasize, but given the numbers on rape, this movie might actually prevent some. I can't say strongly enough how much I recommend it. There is no real shame in enjoying the sex scenes, their is shame in considering or ever having raped a woman. I guess an immoral person, probably wouldn't get the message either way, but for the moral, you understand why it's such a hideous crime. I've dated past victims, and they are forever changed, FOREVER! Pardon my rant...

A sleeper hit IMHO...
18 January 2005
Gorin Visnic pulled this movie off well. I was unsure of his acting outside of ER. The movie has a cool plot, and there a few leaps we must make with character actions and general believability, but how many supernatural movies don't require such. I'm not saying call the Academy, but as mentioned this is a 'sleeper' movie that will entertain you if you enjoy the supernatural thriller genre. I was glad I rented it, and I'm a bit picky in general. It isn't the fastest paced film as it develops slowly, but you'll probably like it if you like Gorin. The female lead is credible as well, as is Gorin's wife in the film. The Supernatural element of the movie was a new one to me, which is further reason I'm taking the time to write this, as I thank those who have done such for me, as it drives a fair amount of my 'tweener' rentals. Ciao!
