Primeval (2007–2011)
5/10
The Pudding Is In The Details
2 July 2010
Warning: Spoilers
The premise of Primeval is fantastic. Anomalies, gate way to another time and space. Quasi government conspiracy. The initial characters were a scientist, a PR person for the government, head of ARC, a nerdy guy type, a hot young zoologist and Helen, the protagonist. That covers all the demographics. Yes? Pretty good acting, considering the words they have to act out is not up to snuff. I enjoy it when Helen hams it up with her pouting and posing. Average production values here. Above average CGI. It is pretty smart of the production to film in what appears to be a fancy empty building (lots of it around due to the nasty economy). Just fill it up with cool props and voila, The Arc HQ. A few extras would not hurt as well. Where it fails is the details. To be more specific, the writing. Abby, the zoologist, and Connor, the nerdy type, - how did they learn to shoot gun so well? Were they trained? Same goes to Nick Cutter, the scientist. Sometimes the ARC support team just stands still in an exciting situation not uttering a single word. I could name numerous instances. I can suspend disbelief, but in this case, the details and some plot points are much bigger than the anomalies, I say cinco estrellas.

Avoid this movie by all means.
18 October 2005
I was patient with this movie. Very patiently waiting for some sensibility to happen. The two actors were great and believable - that is the reason why I watched the movie all the way. I even like the sparseness of the production design. The narrative on the other hand is a complete mess. Granted that I have a PhD in Physics, it would still be a difficult film to understand. Because the film failed to deliver a reasonable narrative - visually or through words. It is more like a collage of pictures and words pasted in no particular order. This movie is no Momento and should not be used in the same sentence. If I did not see this movie, I'd be 2 hours ahead of the projects I need to finish...time travel simplified.
