Works okay as horror, not as thriller
24 February 2017
I would consider this psychological horror rather than thriller and I think it works quite well in this respect. I am now more afraid of the human psyche and I know for sure that I would never want to be a psychologist. However it is very repetitious in the first half and so it gets boring very quickly. Also there is not much going on visually in style, colors, shots, camera movement, etc. Overall I think it does a good job within its obviously small budget.

3 Idiots (2009)

Easily one of the most overrated films on IMDb
26 February 2016
The script is the biggest problem with this film. It is filled with clichés and unoriginal jokes. The theme and message of the film is spelled out for the audience a million times. It should be more subtle and realistic. The sequence of events is entirely predictable.

Additionally, there is nothing exceptional about any other element of the film in my opinion. There is nothing impressive about the camera work. There is nothing impressive about set design or costume design. There is nothing impressive about the acting or characterization.

It is emotionally manipulative using every trick in the book and there is nothing to enjoy if you do not fall for that. How it is so far up IMDb's top 250 is beyond me.

A missed opportunity for something more real and dark
2 July 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I was actually expecting much based on the simple but interesting premise and the intriguing poster which for once caught my attention. However, this is not particularly impressive. The acting is passable but none of the actors show much range of abilities. Except for the bully, all the characters are pretty one dimensional. This is a character driven movie lacking in good dialogue and characterization.

*SPOILERS* After the bully dies, the movie includes barely any discussion on what they should do and all the characters react the way you would expect them to. The characters show barely any emotion at all. There are so many opportunities for powerful performances and memorable dialogue here. But instead they decide without any real discussion to bury the body (which is the stupidest decision ever) and then later the discussion about coming clean is not even included in the film.

The first part of the movie about bullying and adolescence was pretty good. The second part of the movie, after the bully dies, is completely uninteresting because nothing happens. Everybody agrees with Clyde that they should hide the body and then later everybody but Clyde decides to tell the police. No ideological conflict, no exploration of the mind of the characters.
