Independence Day: Resurgence (2016)
The acting was so painful to watch
Anyone old enough to see this in theaters and remember it will agree with me. This movie is so bad. The acting alone is nothing short of grotesque. I was excited all over nothing. Based on what I saw, the original should have been left alone. The major pet peeve I have with this movie is the acting. At first I thought it was just a couple of cheesy lines, until the acting continued to be bad in scene after scene after scene. The poor acting just never stopped, no matter how much I was anticipating an end to it. It was almost as if they were deliberately trying to sabotage the film. So painful to watch. It is a real shame too because if I listened to it muted, it probably would have been a relatively good movie. They could have done so much better. If I were Jeff Goldblum or Bill Pullman, I would be ashamed. I now know why Will Smith truly turned the movie down. Bottom line: I was so disappointed. When I first caught wind of an ID4 sequel, I had high hopes, which crashed and burned immediately upon watching (no pun intended). If you haven't watched it yet either don't or watch it muted. That's all the advice I can give.
Clarence (2013)
A wonderful cartoon for parents and kids alike
**Spoiler regarding main characters in this next paragraph, not episode details**
By the third episode of Clarence, I knew I was hooked. The show puts on a hilarious, interesting, and entertaining display of everyday life through a kid's eyes in modern America. Clarence lives with his Mom and her live-in boyfriend, Chad (who is arguably the least intelligent character on the show). Sumo lives in a small run-down trailer with a bunch of brothers and sisters in addition to his seemingly impoverished parents. Jeff lives at home with his Mom and, well, other Mom. This show carries the three main characters through everyday life. They get into shenanigans both inside school and out. Sumo seems to be the fellow with the most common sense and Jeff is the smartest of the trio. Clarence is definitely the last when it comes to intelligence between the three, but he never fails to surprise me as a viewer. He carries the best luck in the group and in the end, things always seem to work out in Clarence's favor.
**End of Spoilers**
I have a little girl who absolutely loves the show Clarence, which further validates my reasoning and ability to watch and enjoy this show. Like other cartoons I still enjoy as an adult, I hope Cartoon Network runs this program for many years to come. Most shows on that channel are way over the top in terms of goofiness and stupidity. But Clarence takes a stroll through daily life, which is the type of cartoon I enjoy the most. By the way, I decided to give a 9 because only two cartoons in my personal opinion are absolute tens...Aqua Teen and Rocko's Modern Life. Clarence is a close third in my book. As the show progresses, it might sneak into second place, but nothing will ever top ATHF ;) If you are reading this because you are debating watching Clarence, I am here to tell you to give it a shot. The episodes are only 10 minutes, so you don't have much to lose. Most episodes are equally as good, but a few were a bit slow and silly to me. If you happen to see one of those as a first episode, maybe watch one more episode. The Pilot and the Fun Dungeon are definitely good ones. The Joust is another favorite of mine. Dollar hunt is great too. Rise N Shine, they are all good! Its a perfect summertime cartoon to enjoy.
Beverly Hood (1999)
It was low-budget, had some less-than-par scenes, but handed out some laughs too.
Admittedly, this is definitely not going to be anyone's favorite movie of all time, but it isn't the worst movie ever made like some people mentioned in these reviews. Some people just totally lose it when they unknowingly watch a low-budget movie, expecting an all-around stellar movie performance. That is what Hollywood has turned so many people into these days. If you appreciate the efforts people make with the best budget they can get, and you can see through movie budgeting, this movie will be manageable to watch. I must admit though, I gave it a 4 out of 10 for a reason...because they could have spent more time working with the screen writing; improving on the storyline and comedy a bit. If you have the right talent, you can make a funny movie with a home video camera and a basement. I'm not saying this movie was "good" necessarily, I'm just saying that there are plenty of worse movies out there with the same budget I imagine this movie having. This is a good middle-of-the-night movie too. When you are real tired or a little 'partied-out', this movie should seem rather funny. Just see past the low budget part of the movie and watch it for what the filmmakers intended for the movie to become...a 4 out of 10 movie!
