Propaganda

They talk about CA working with Brexit and Trump and totally leave out Barrack Obama. In fact when they were working with Obama the media wrote glowingly of the firm and how clever Obama was to use data. I remember i saw that piece live. This is yet more 'orange man bad'. The incredible double standard of how things become bad only when Trump does them.

Sharknado with Lions.

If it was a little more self aware it could be a really funny comedy. It is pretty funny as is it. It's halfway in between the movie it's trying to be and a spoof of that genre. I think all of the comedy unfortunately is entirely unintentional. It has animals doing things not only that they cannot physically do but as a preferred hunting behavior. The writing is so cliche that it's almost hard to believe that it's unintentional.

Decent.

Story was pretty lame. Bird Box except they can't talk instead of can't look. It was pretty well executed though. I liked the way the characters made decisions and interacted. No political propaganda which is nice. They showed the monsters too much and over-explained them.

Bad premise.
26 January 2019
Other people have pointed out the smaller scientific inaccuracies of the film but i would like to discuss the bigger picture.

Leaving earth because of the environment makes zero sense. It seems like merely an excuse to be preachy. It makes no sense because we are adapted to live on earth already. Any place else is going to be significantly less habitable. We would either be living in spacesuits or entirely indoors in which case why not do that on earth? Or we would have to terraform the new place to meet our needs in which case again why not do that to the earth? It will always be easier to fix the earth than a totally foreign environment. And that doesn't even take into account the extreme difficulty of space travel.

Environmental damage is a lousy reason for humans to leave earth. What would make sense is overcrowding. Too many people. Or some kind of impending disaster that is too big for us to deal with. Or something more seriously wrong with the earth.

That sheep milk really kicks it up a notch!

The cool thing about this show is that it doesn't leave you waiting very long for something to happen. I think its very well written.

I don't know but something about it just made me want to send a package with Mailboxes Etc, drink sheep's milk, buy a Toshiba Computer and Rat Poison.

But seriously its fun to watch for me because i know some spanish but not enough to do without subtitles. I think they only say 'vale' in spain.

Boring. Unless you like soap operas then 8 out of 10

Very very boring. 10/10 if you are having trouble sleeping. Seems very much like a traditional soap opera. Slow action lots of drama. Seems like a bait and switch because its not a sci-fi. I understand the point of soap operas, women like to multi-task and they're only watching it at about 15%. But if you're paying 100% attention to this its deadly boring.

Loved it! It's weird!

Loved it. Not your typical story in any way except maybe for the ending. Its a romantic comedy about two crazy people. Reminds me of 'I'm a cyborg but its okay'. The Korean romantic comedy about two crazy people in an insane asylum who fall in love. The woman thinks she's a robot and won't eat and almost dies chewing on electrical cables. At the end of the movie they have a romantic dinner and the woman tries to turn into a bomb.

This is that sort of weird. If you like something different this is for you. (and me!)

Fun idea, good special effects and a terrible script.
27 August 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The script is really terrible.

Glaring plot holes: A) Had nobody tested the suit before? First it seems like nobody has and then the military apparently has tons of people already implanted. Did the military not bother to tell them how to do it? B) The suit is made out of at least 2 completely impossible materials. It didn't need to be explained and the movie over-explained it horribly.

This is why liberal arts majors shouldn't write science fiction. Whoever wrote the script lacked a basic understanding of science. Too much talking to advance the plot and not enough showing. Show don't tell. Heavy handed political messages.

Lazy and boring.

Matt Groening should just retire to his castle full of money. Clearly he's just phoning this one in. Every character just seems recycled. Like oh that's Lisa Simpson. Hey that's Bender. That is Frye. It feels like he outsourced 90% of the work to people with very little talent.

Not bad if you can ignore the Marxist social commentary and plot holes.
5 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
As far as the actual story its ok. The characters seem very morally neutral so its kind of hard to care about any of them or the world in which they live. The test itself is kind of interesting.

As far as the plot holes... the first giant one is that they are culling the population. This is basic biology, They take everybody who passes their test and sterilize them They are culling the traits that the test selects. Maybe that is why everybody is so stupid and mean? The other giant one is just the absurdity of the situation. This one island is perfect but everywhere else is screwed? That makes no sense. Why don't they make more of these super magic robots that do all the work? Why does nobody work? Everybody just sits around and complains. Apparently nobody washes clothes or fixes houses, The magic robots are the only thing that does any work.

Lets talk about the Marxist social commentary. Nobody produces anything. The only actual work is done by these magical robots that are controlled by the offshore, There are 2 classes: the rich who get handouts from the magic worker robots and the poor who do not. It seemed to me like we were supposed to cheer for the poor people to rise up., Why? All they are going to do is destroy the only good place left in the world and they are no better than the people who live there, I just hope everybody dies at the end because they are all such horrible people. There isn't a single person who is even trying to improve conditions for everybody, Every single person is selfish and stupidly selfish, The resistance talks about dying for the greater good, Yeah, exactly, the 'greater good' always involves a lot of people dying, Every time Marxists seize power they kill millions of their own citizens for the 'greater good' except it never is for the good of anybody,.

Lower your expectations
21 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Not too bad as long as you don't expect too much. If you have a few hours to kill and nothing better to do you could do worse.

Just ignore the massive plot holes and clichés everywhere and the weird scene jumps. (how did he get here?) The ripoff of Sherlock Holmes and some moralizing speeches about living every day like its our last.

It manages to be a decently entertaining detective show even if its sometimes difficult to suspend disbelief.

I thought the part where Judd Hirsch's character is telling him that he wished he could be immortal (wait, haven't they lived together for like 75 years??), like its the first time that conversation has ever come up was pretty funny.

Go back to Roto-Rooter!
29 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I think this show succeeds for the same reason that the great religions do: if it was more convincing people would be suspicious.

It is either brilliantly thought out and executed to be so appalling boring and unconvincing or its just a happy accident. The fact that its totally absurd strangely attracts people to choose to believe in it.

Its amazing that these clowns are being paid to make television when they are so absurdly bad at it. The entertainment value is even worse than the 'evidence'. If you're going to fake ghost footage at least make it interesting. When you have to subtitle the audio it means that its really not saying anything, its just random noise.

Don't watch this
26 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Totally unwatchable. Random, mostly bad, interpretations of the supposed symbolism in The Shining. I was expecting something better than i would have written at the last minute for a high school English book report but i was sorely disappointed.

The only interesting thing about it was that the interpretations really had nothing to do with the film and only with the perspective of the person attempting to analyze the film. People would project their own opinions and biases onto the film.

I recommend avoiding watching this film, its time wasted that you will wish you had back.

Faithful remake of a classic!
3 June 2014
I'm rating it 9/10 but personally for me its 10/10 because of the nostalgia factor.

This is a remake of the mid 70's Space Battleship Yamato which was released in the US as "Star Blazers" and dubbed into English. It was so popular in Japan that there was a musical tour of the music from the show. It was equally popular among American children of the 70's and 80's.

This is an excellent remake. They kept what made the series great in the 70's and of course the animation and general picture quality is vastly superior.
