Cupid (2009)
Gives You that Warm Fuzzy Feeling Once A Week
When I saw the previews for this I was hesitant. All in all it didn't seem overly appealing, but a night with nothing else on and I gave in. I've seen the first three episodes so far and I can say this show has struck me with it's arrow. It's very cute and has it's own wonderful little quirks. Every week I feel like I'm sitting down to a mini-romantic comedy from the comfort of my own home. The characters are great, the story lines are those perfectly constructed, cliché, feel good, plots that make the romantic comedies of today so endearing. Not to mention the great chemistry that Claire and "Trevor" share.
It's unfortunate that it's not getting the ratings that ABC likes from their shows. They've given up a lot of good ones all because they didn't hit home from the start. Here's hoping Cupid picks up and we can at least see a second season from it.
Silent Hill (2006)
A blood bath I never wanted to take
Let's get started, when I first saw the preview's for this I found it laughable. A mother loses her daughter and must go to Hell to retrieve her. However then I started hearing people saying how spectacular it was. Well I decided to wait for the DVD release none-the-less and I'm glad I did. This movie wouldn't even be worth the $1 theater. Mind you I did not make the mistake of wasting my hard earned money on this. I made my neighbor waste her's then I borrowed it.
The movie starts out fairly decent and goes downhill from there. I'd just like to take this moment to say that if your child is having nightmares, sleepwalking to the edge of cliffs and calling out the name of a ghost town do not, under any circumstances, go there! When Rose first enters the town it does look promising, it's creepy, it's deserted, and it's raining ash. Then all of a sudden those alarms that make you want to cut off your ears begin ringing. She follows who she thinks is her daughter into the basement of some building. I honestly think if it was her daughter the kid would have stopped, anyways, suddenly things change. She is walking through a maze of gates and heat, much like some sort of sweat shop. Next thing you know she finds half of a man strung up on one of these gates, and then these molten midgets start groping her. I have yet to find what is scary about this aside from the CGI. I'll admit there were some half decent CGI effects, which is why I gave this two stars. The movie monsters just get worse and worse. Like the guy with a large triangular head and giant knife, the over-sized roaches, the zombie janitor who appears to be doing yoga, the armless thing that spites black goo, and yes they've saved the best for last, the Thriller nurses. I kept waiting and waiting for the song to start playing, but alas I was let down yet again.
The movie is very broken, it takes you down a road of pain and misery, dragging you over barbed wire, open flame, barbed wire, knives, and yes more barbed wire. The main weapon of choice in this film seems to be barbed wire. This movie is straight out of the twisted mind of someone who should consider checking themselves into the local asylum. Since when did barbed wire become related to the devil? People need to learn that children, and witchcraft films have been overdone. Take The Ring, mix in the worst witchcraft film in your mind and set them on fire, you will have this movie.
This film left a lot of things unexplained, like how exactly did they pass through into the world they were stuck in? When did that occur? Why did it take the cop with them? Why was this town never touched after the night of the fire?
DVD worthy? Well if you really really want to see this, which I suppose if you enjoy self inflicted pain then this is probably your cup of tea. I'd say borrow it, don't buy it, and don't rent it. Why not rent it you ask? Even if you have one of those $1 rental places? Because as I said in the beginning it's not worth it.
Take the Lead (2006)
Inspired me to learn a thing or two
Going into the theater I had high expectations and they were certainly met. I was surprised to learn this was based on a true story and it makes me want to look more into it.
Although the characters were a tad cliché' over all the movie was excellent. The acting was great and the characters well portrayed. The choreography was spectacular and really makes me want to take up ballroom dancing.
It was a fabulous movie that carried a good bit of chemistry, I liked it and plan to purchase it when it's released on DVD.
If you are into any sort of dance movies then you should probably look into this flick, you may just find yourself dancing along to it.
Mortuary (2005)
Not worth the time of day.
This movie was CRAP. The previews led you to believe it was something worth seeing but it wasn't.
The acting was terrible on so many levels. The only relatively decent acting came from the mother but shes been in the business a while so we can only expect it from her.
There really was no solid plot it kept jumping around. Reminded me a lot of something a 5th grader would try to write for a creative writing assignment.
One minute there's some legend of a mutated child/man who haunts graveyards the next there's black ooze thats stealing peoples souls! It was hard to keep track of exactly what was going on.
And does no one in this town die of natural causes? I mean they stated it was a small town and with their death rate they should be off the map in a week. Also when the living people were taken over they could still talk. The dead were just... mentally incapable it's like they lost their brains when they died! The ending left so many unanswered questions. It was like they just went "O crap we've run out of money in our budget we have to end it now lets slap together something really dumb!" What happened to Rita? What about the creepy guy with the cane? Why in the name of all that is sane in this world would someone move into a house like that in the first place. What about the diner chick? Does she survive? O and where did the sheriff's car go? You mean to tell me no one noticed it was there? This movie was truly one of the worst movies I've seen in a LONG time. It puts shame to the horror genre.
The only good thing about it was that cracking jokes at this was so easy a 5 year old could have done it, and that made it fun to laugh at.
The X Files (1993)
This show made me nocturnal
I was recently introduced to this show by my mom. At the time that it was actually airing on TV I didn't really know much about it nor did I have much of a care for sci-if/horror things. Sadly though it's hard to find it on at normal times accept between 12am and 6am however I'm so addicted to this show that I stay up all night watching it and sleep during a percentage of the day. Yes I do recored them but I still watch them. There are so many great episodes it's really hard to pick a favorite and the scripts are great so many unforgettable lines. This show is full of science fiction and horror along with a good bit of humor. I love the way the main characters just work so well together. The first through fifth seasons are the best the sixth and seventh are OK but as Mulder left the series in the eighth and ninth seasons they just weren't the same. I'm not going to tell you every episode will blow you away because some of them are a little... blah but the amazing ones cancel these out by a long shot.
