The Silence (2019)
Dear God, it's terrible
Love Stanley Tucci and needed some background noise so I put this movie on and wow it was worse than I thought. So many clichés, CGI is a quite bad, a lot of plot holes but more importantly whats up with the ending ? It looked like they got lazy and made up something totally disconnected from the rest of the movie.
A Quiet Place (2018)
Very good concept, poor execution
I am giving this movie a 7, because I liked the idea, liked the concept, liked the acting, but the execution is so bad. The movie starts very well, I do enjoy not knowing what's happening, and discovering it as the movie goes. Unfortunately, there isn't much left to discover. After 15-20 minutes, the movie stagnates and falls into the typical horror movie cliches.
Why is it so bad? Because if you were to be silent, and you prep so much, why on Earth do you decide to live in a very old house with a very squeaky floor. It's been over a year, and the best thing they found was an old carpet to cover the entrance to a basement? Other than that, why on Earth does the Dad get attacked? If they are blind, and only sensitive to sounds, you could just stand still in the field and get away with it.
There is a lot of things that don't add up, and it's bothering. The concept really deserved better attention. Overall I give it a 7 because I did have a good time but it's really far from being the best thriller I have ever seen.
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
What we are expecting from Marvel
Finally Marvel is delivering a real super-hero movie that doesn't look like a Disney fairy-tale. And what a movie. From the first second to the last, you get into the story and the action. It would have been complicated to handle so many scenes and such a big cast, but it's been done brilliantly around a solid story-line. I want to go watch it again!
Mine (2016)
Surprisingly very good
I made the mistake of reading its review score before watching it, so I was expecting something bad. But on the contrary, it was a very moving movie. I would advise not giving up after the first 15-20 minutes, as the story unfolds toward the end.
So, yes the movie is inaccurate for all those military experts, but it doesn't stop me from enjoying the story behind it, which was very intense and involving.
Arrival (2016)
Good ideas, but so painfully slow
I knew this wasn't going to be an action packed movie, but I am so disappointed by the way the story unfolds. First of all, the first 20 minutes start very well, you go from being very sad to very intrigued, and I really felt like this was the start of a great movie.
And then... I don't know what happened after that. The movie slowed down, it was countless times of seeing them going back and forth to the ship, trying to decrypt some random signs made from smoke. This movie does carry some great ideas but it's totally pointless if you fall asleep watching it, or if you leave the room in the middle of the movie (yes some people actually left the cinema because they were so bored).
I give 3 stars because there was an interesting story behind, but no more because it was very painful to watch. Especially the ending, the conversation with the Chinese president was ridiculously acted, and the love story was way too predictable, and spoiled by some really cheesy lines.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
What a disaster...
This Star Wars movie is a complete disappointment. At no point in the movie, I have felt the "Star Wars" feeling I used to get (even in Episode 1 I felt it). The final scene maybe, but that's about it.
The humour made it nice to watch, but I didn't expect to see a comedy. Han Solo kind of saves a bit of the Star Wars spirit, but bringing old references is just not enough for me.
Let's start with the worst: the villain. First, not much creativity: he is Han Solo's son (sounds familiar maybe?) and the reference to Darth Vader is almost pathetic. The fact he's lost, and ends up killing someone to fully embrace the Dark side (sounds familiar again?) was almost too predictable. It also bothers me he's depicted as this big menace, but in fact he's just a boy in his twenties, having tantrums and barely knowing how to use the Force.
Because yes, this scavenger, out of nowhere, becomes the leader of the Force (seriously, doesn't sound familiar?) All in all, a lot of denial, going back and forth, to reach this light sabre fight, the only one in the movie (yes you heard me). This was just before the new Death Star blew up (yes another one), and the whole point of the movie (finding Skywalker) was expedited in the last 5 minutes of the movie.
To make this short, I feel like I have watched a pale copy of a Star Wars movie, with a cast that was unfortunately not up to the challenge. A lot of humour and reminders to catch people's attention, but no dark atmosphere, no thrills, just entertaining. But nothing left.
