Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023)
It's a good experience but...
This movie was fun. I wouldn't necessarily say it's a "good movie", but I really enjoyed my time watching it. Black manta looks incredible, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II did a good portrayal but I wasn't a huge fan of the mind control with the trident. The fact that we had to see and hear about it everytime someone picked it up got irritating. I also felt that they could've done a little more with his character, but the fights between Manta and Aquaman are really good. Also, Arthur Curry is just Jason Mamoa in this movie. He didn't have a real story going on other than that he was a new father and king but hates being a king. But then at the end of the movie he likes being a king with no real reason given. It's not gonna go down in history being a 10 star movie, but if it's fun, does it really have to be?
The Black Phone (2021)
I didn't take my eyes off the screen once
I just saw this movie last night, and wow, it's amazing. It's set in the 70's, and they really did the 70's setting right. The flashbacks are done in a way that makes it seem like your watching a show on the ID channel which is interesting.
I went into this not knowing anything about it other than that it's about a kidnapper nicknamed the grabber. I didn't watch the trailer, didn't read the story it was based on (I most likely will tomorrow because now I'm interested), I didn't know what a black phone had to do with the story, and I think it might've helped me enjoy the movie more.
This is a movie with mostly children actors/actresses, which can be difficult but they all acted really well. The direction was top notch, pacing done brilliantly. Ethan Hawke was absolutely amazing as the grabber. It really is a terrific performance. There are a few things that are mysterious, such as they never say why the little girl gets these dreams about the grabber, except that her mom got them. They also never do say why the phone rings . Some people I've seen on here were complaining about that, but I don't think it's that they were lazy and forgot to give any back ground to that, I think it's just that they didn't want to. It makes the movie more eerie
In conclusion, I've seen a lot of movies I liked in the theater, but not many that I've never took my eyes off the screen. This movie is well worth your time.
Power Book IV: Force (2022)
It's just good to see Tommy again
I was excited for this one the most, I actually like book 2 slightly better so far (I know I'd be in the minority there because everyone seems to hate that one). But I do like it better than book 3. Has it lived up to what I was hoping for? Not really, but it's not even the whole way through season 1 so I'm not holding that that against it. It's worth watching. It has a lot of potential.
Scream (2022)
Not as good as the original, but as close as they could probably get
I liked it a lot! It kept me entertained throughout. If you grew up on the scream films like I did you will really enjoy this one. They kept it pretty similar to the original. Mindy's speech about requels was 100% accurate and that just lets you know that they were aware of who the target audience is. Would definitely recommend!
Sleepaway Camp (1983)
I loved it all the way up to the ending
This is a very fun film. If you like the Friday the 13th movies, you will like it for sure. I watched it the other night on shudder, surprised that I've never seen it and was shocked at how much I liked it. I didn't like the ending though. I'm not gonna spoil it, I'll leave that up for you to find out
Black Christmas (1974)
I appreciate it for what it was
Black Christmas was just boring and not atmospheric enough for my taste. I did not like the killer at all, I did not find him scary, and him acting like a child on the phone calls was not scary at all and very annoying. They also put way too much effort into trying to make us believe that her boyfriend was the killer. I had a hard time taking this movie seriously and couldn't wait until it was over. I will not watch it again. I respect what it was, and how it inspired Halloween, which is my favorite horror movie of all time, but that doesn't mean I have to like it
Obsessed (2009)
Good but could've been better
Obsessed is an entertaining movie. Beyoncé was not very good in it, and I thought her dialogue towards the end of the movie was very cringey. The ending was also disappointing. I would've rather something better than her falling through the ceiling, but oh well. It's still a good watch
Carlito's Way (1993)
You don't have to compare this to The Godfather or Scarface to appreciate it
This is a great movie. You don't have to compare this to The Godfather or Scarface to appreciate it. Al pacino plays his normal character and Sean Penn is outstanding as a supporting actor. The chase scene at the end is one of the best I've seen in any movie
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
Classic
One of the best and most original slasher movies ever made. Also, Heather Langenkamp is a great final girl. I always have fun with this one. But...in this movie they call him Fred Krueger, am I the only one that prefers that he be called Fred instead of Freddie? Fred just sounds more menacing
Friday the 13th (2009)
Not a bad reboot
While this is considered to be a remake, it's really not. This movie has Jason in it as the killer, whereas the original movie had his mother. The plot is just like any other Friday the 13th movie however Jason kind of gives off a Thomas Hewitt vibe from TCM 2003....but they don't mess with the formula and respect the source material, so I would definitely recommend it. I had fun watching it
Halloween II (1981)
Pretty good
The good: the hospital setting, Dick Warlocks performance, Donald pleasance's performance, some good kills
The bad: gets a little boring around the middle, the Michael and laurie being related revelation, not enough Laurie in it, shows Michael Myers too much and we get no character development.
This is in no way a bad movie. I actually think it's one of the best in the franchise and I think Dick Warlock is a great shape even though I've heard complaints that he's too robotic. I always watch this around Halloween time, just not on tv cause for some reason they always put rob zombies H2 on instead on all the marathons
Workaholics (2011)
One of my favorite shows
I love this show so much. You have to be into this type of comedy, if you're not you won't like it cause the humor is the same in every episode. Adam DeVine is the only stand up comedian so he is the only one I heard of when I first watched this but Blake Anderson And anders Holm are even funnier than he is. They all 3 have great chemistry. Some of the side characters are funny too, Montez is pretty funny. But if you're not easily offended and like party-style bro type of comedy you'll love this show
Seed of Chucky (2004)
The way you kill a franchise
This movie does have some funny jokes and good kills. The problem with it though is that it's an unnecessary movie and centers more around Tiffany than Chucky . The scenes it does have with Chucky are pretty cringe worthy and by the way this movie is filled with bad dialogue. Jennifer Tilly is in it playing herself which makes no sense seeing that she is Tiffany. This movie is what made Chucky go straight to DVD.
Bride of Chucky was actually an enjoyable film, and this could've been a very good sequel to it if it was done better
Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)
Frustrating film
This movie had the potential to be really good. It ignored part 4's cliffhanger ending, which would've been forgiven if they went in a good direction but instead it was just a standard horror flick with Jamie having psychic powers because, why not. Tina is a horrible character, it's especially saddening that we have to deal with her after having Rachel in part 4, who I thought was a great final girl. So needless to say, the plot is not good.
Michael Myers looks horrible. Don Shanks could've been a good Myers, however they gave him a horrible mask that immediately ruins the character. However, one thing about this film is that it has the laundry chute scene which is probably one of the best scenes of the entire series.
If you are a fan of the Halloween series, you should check it out and see if you like it. If you're not, you probably won't like it.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)
I love this movie
This is actually my favorite Texas chainsaw movie and I also think the best leatherface. Everything about this movie worked for me..the tone, the suspense, the footage of police investigating to make it feel like it really happened.
I also reviewed the original and to be honest, as I said in that review, I don't really like the original. But I really like this one. I think this is one of the best horror remakes of all time
Bride of Chucky (1998)
Great movie
I think this movie is really funny. It took Chucky away from the horror elements of the child's play movies and made it a comedy, which I think the chucky movies should've been anyway. It has a lot of funny jokes and introduces Tiffany as a character. I always have a lot of fun with this one
Jaws 2 (1978)
Only good jaws sequel
This is the only good jaws sequel. But that's not to say that it's a classic, it's because the two that came after it suck and this movie isn't extremely boring. It has its good moments, Roy Schieder is good in it. I like the side plot of him getting fired but still saving the day. If it's on tv I will watch it, it's really not bad, just nowhere near the original
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Nah
I had a good experience watching this the first time at the theater....but that was cause of the theater. It's not until I watched it again until I realized that it sucks. I grew up with the Star Wars franchise and these last two movies have been so horrible I'm not sure if they're worse than phantom menace or not, they might be.
Rey is the worst character in all the new movies but we are forced to endure her while She kills Palpatine, who shouldn't even be in the movie because Vader killed him, but he's in it cause they had to figure out who to make Rey related to so they could make more movies. Kylo ren was a good character but died for no reason. Finn was a good character but they did not use him to his full potential. I felt like episode 8 and 9 were only made for cash grabs. Episode 7 is the only one that felt like a Star Wars film. I would recommend watching this movie atleast once so you can come up with your own opinions
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
Kinda good...kinda not..but a classic
Okay so I have weird feelings about this movie. Yes it's a classic but...I don't really like it. Certain scenes are scary, and cinematography is beautiful ...and I love the ending scene where leatherface is weilding the chainsaw around. But honestly, the acting is horrible, there's too much screaming, so much that it's actually annoying...too many close up shots to the final girl's eyes and teeth. The dinner scene is actually so disturbing and annoying that I don't even care to watch it, and that's the climax of the movie. It's a cult film and I can see why, leatherface is a legendary character, but this movie as a whole is just bad in my opinion. Maybe it just aged poorly
Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (1985)
Better than they say
For years I avoided this movie because of how bad everyone says it is. After watching it a few times i came to the conclusion it's actually not that bad. It still feels like a Friday the 13th movie. I love the character of Violet, and I also think Pam was a decent final girl. Her acting was terrible but I still liked her. The pacing was done well, the kills were creative and there's a lot of nudity, which is what the Friday the 13th movies are known for
Tommy Jarvis is extremely boring I'm glad they recasted him in part 6 with Thom Matthews because this man who plays him is a snooze fest..I also don't get why they chose the paramedic to be the copycat killer, and he decided to kill everyone but the man who murdered his son. I think they should've picked a different character that we would care about or even really remember, but oh well. overall I would say this is a good film in the franchise. It would've been interesting to see what would've happened if they made part 6 how it should've been based on this ending, but I'm kinda glad they didn't cause part 6 is my favorite.
If you catch A new beginning on tv you should watch it if you're a fan of these kind of movies
Power (2014)
One of my favorites
Very good show! If you haven't watched it yet, the show is centered around James "Ghost" St. Patrick. He's a drug kingpin, husband, father, cheater, and a liar. Throughout the show, you have a love/hate relationship with him, atleast for me. But what makes the show so good is that there are many main characters with their own storylines. Even if you're not part of the drug world or never were, you can probably find someone on here to relate to personally.
My take on it is that it's a great show. It's not perfect, some seasons are better than others. But i would recommend it to anyone. Unless that person was racist or something lol
You (2018)
Unpopular opinion: Season 2 is garbage
Season one was amazing. It had everything- good characters, character development, suspense, cliffhangers. This was an all around great show. That was until the second season.
Season 2 starts with off stupid anyway with Joe stealing some guy's identity. Then he starts working at a grocery store and meets a girl named Love, who is nothing like Beck and she's worse in every aspect. Her brother, named Forty, is one of the worst characters ever introduced on a show. The only bright spots are of course Joe himself, and his neighbor, Delilah and her sister. Also unpopular opinion-I liked Delilah. Season 2 is so boring and just drags. There are no cliffhangers, no suspense, Very few interesting scenes.the whole thing with Candace is a waste of time. It'd be better if she was dead from the start, it'd make Joe more mysterious. Maybe the reason I don't like it is because after the first season, this one is predictable.
That's just my take. I forced myself to suffer through the second season so I can watch the third season when it comes out because I'm not done with the show. It can redeem itself...it's not the first show to have a bad second season. After watching it though, it becomes apparent that killing Beck was a bad move.
Primal (2019)
Beautiful
The art and storytelling are beautiful. It's awesome how well it can tell a story without any dialogue. I would recommend this to anyone that liked the 5th season of Samurai Jack
Pet Sematary (2019)
Boring. Not similar to the original at all
This movie is really boring and the pet semetary doesn't even play a big role. The acting is terrible and it makes you wonder if anyone involved read the book or watched the original movie
Jaws (1975)
My favorite movie
Absolute classic. This movie came from a novel (which is also a classic) and started an entire genre. This started the abundance of shark movies we have today but it's still the best. The atmosphere is incredible. We know there's a shark out there, and we know that the beaches need to be closed, but Mayor Vaughn doesn't care. The scenes where the three men are out on the boat trying to kill the shark are some of the best scenes ever shot. I would recommend this to anyone
