The Rum Diary (2011)
"The Rum Diary" is a tall glass of champagne!
A perfect film. They hit all the marks with a sledgehammer. The acting was phenomenal, the locations were gorgeous, and the writing and direction of Bruce Robinson was well worth the wait. You don't need to be a fan of Hunter S. Thompson to enjoy or understand this film. But fans of his should rejoice! Admittedly the voice brought to life in this story through writer/director Bruce Robinson was sublime and fresh. Combined with the passion and love brought to screen with Johnny Depp's acting in this role - as well as the rest of the cast - I certainly imagine Hunter raising a glass to the entire cast and crew with a big smirk on his beautiful, weathered face. He would be proud. Do not miss this movie or let some vacant review keep you from it. It's the best film I have seen in a very long time!
Beowulf (2007)
Are you kidding me? Sloppy, CRAP.
Roger Ebert did a great job at distracting readers from actually telling audiences anything useful in what he calls a review. Surely he jests, when he implies that the filmmakers meant this film to be funny. The review from him should be retitled "distracting comments," just as Beowulf should be retitled, as anything else, and have it's rating pushed up to R. This film isn't worth the download space, or the box office dollar you'll have to put out to be annoyed, insulted, and confused. Keep your family away and your friends. This wheelbarrow of crap that the studio rolled out is shameful. It should be listed as exploitation animation. How dare they ask for academy recognition for an Oscar. Ugh....

Don't read the critic reviews, see it for yourself!
I would be wasting my time and breath on explaining the trouble with critic reviews. This film was described as "insufficiently funny" -- I am not sure why it is listed as a comedy, but it is certainly not one. With that said; this movie is FANTASTIC! It has funny moments in the sick and twisted fashion of life handing you lemons, however, it is beautifully and deliciously dark and twisted. VERY DARK, VERY WELL WRITTEN AND DIRECTED. Is this film for kids? NO. Is this film for teenagers, adults, and fans of good movies? YES! I hope this film finds it's English speaking market. I think the fans will love this film and I that one day it will reach the cult status it deserves. Great job!!
