xXx: State of the Union (2005)
I actually liked this movie (more than the first one)
It was okay. Nothing special. I'm not going to defend it's faults by any means, but I thought there was less of them than the first movie. I prefer Ice Cube to Vintage Diesel also and thought his ex navy seal character was better than vins adrenaline junkie. The action was watchable too. It's one of the guilty pleasure movies. There direction was pretty good and the soundtrack fits.I think, to be honest maybe I like it because nobody else does but there ya go. Maybe some of the other reviewers were expecting too much? Who knows. I can think of a couple of movies worse than this, for example Die Another Day. So yeah I do have the DVD and yeah I stick it on once a year or so.
2 Guns (2013)
a throw back to the days of buddy movies
This movie is just a pure fun, plain and simple buddy movie, borderline colour by numbers.
All the elements of the 80s classics are there.. # two tough guys that don't like each other # one liners galore # shoot outs and explosions So on and so forth.
My favourite from the 80s being the classic Running Scared (1986) and this one was not far off on the action/comedy scale, Denzel was on top form even though hes practically taking a break with this compared to the Masterpieces he usually creates, Mark Wahlberg (?) again is right at home shooting bad guys and making jokes, a fine performance as far as it goes. Edaward James Alamos was great as always (loved him in Battlestar) And an old fave Bill Paxton was also amazing.
Direction was pitch perfect. Editing as great. Soundtrack was fun.
All in all a great, fun, action packed, often hilarious buddy flick that would of been right at home between 84-89.
American Hustle (2013)
"Lets get real"
Okay, having just come home from the Cinema, let me say, anyone who complains about this movie/fell asleep/slags it off, is wrong, all day. This was yet another stellar performance from Bale. And this is coming from a Superman fan, not Batman. He completely owns the screen, i could not fault him at all. Jennifer Lawrence is as beautiful as the day is long and does a bang up job as the long suffering alcoholic wife. Lois Lane, ahem, sorry, Amy Adams, was as fantastic as she herself was beautiful. Jeremy Renner did a great job with his all too small part. This cinematography was awesome. The soundtrack was great too.
Its not without its small faults. Its pretty long and the story does drag in one or two scenes.
Bradley Cooper was OK, kinda annoying in parts but nothing to cry about.
This is a story driven film with great performances. Don't expect much in the way of violence/action or the like.
I also really enjoyed the subtle humour that crept in at all the right moments.
I would recommend this to any of my friends with moderate or higher intelligence and a better than goldfish attention span.
