True Lies (1994)

Such a great GREAT movie!!
9 February 2024
Harry (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is living a double life. His wife (Jamie Lee Curtis) and daughter (Eliza Dushku) who thinks he's a computer salesman have no idea that he is a top notch secret agent, as tough as they come too, but when Harry discovers his wife is having an affair with a sleazy, shonky car salesman (Bill Paxton) who himself is impersonating a secret agent. He discovers that his wife is bored and needs some adventure in her life. He decides to make her life more interesting in the most hilarious way while battling a group of maniacal terrorists and a ruthless and beautiful artifacts dealer (Tia Carrere).

This is truly a special movie that has it all. Arnie is great, Jamie Lee Curtis is amazing and Bill Paxton who is fantastic and absolutely hilarious almost steals the show as the shonky and sleazy car salesman posing to be a spy. How does James Cameron do it? He's the director with the golden touch. This is definitely 1 of my all time favourite action flicks. Possibly better than any 007 movies I've seen. So much fun! A perfect10 out of 10!

Platoon (1986)

Shocking, horrific and tragically sad.
11 January 2024
Chris is a newly recruited marine in Vietnam. Coming from a wealthy family Chris's disillusionment pretty quickly becomes misery in a war with an invisible enemy, a futile lieutenant Wolfe (Mark Moses), a frustrated and insane 1st sergeant Barnes (Tom Berenger) and the most suitable leader who is brave and heroic with a good sense of humility 2nd Sergeant Elias (Willem Defoe). Chris himself starts to struggle with his sanity and like many of his comrades, turns to drugs to drown out the misery and insanity of the Vietnam war.

This is Oliver Stone's masterpiece. 1 of the great war movies. It is horrific, shocking and tragically sad when innocence is lost in the baptism of fire. All of the cast are on point and Charlie Sheen is just fantastic as Chris Taylor. What happened? He did nothing but spoofs other than Wall Street after this. This is a psychological piece on the struggles of the marines who fought in this hopeless war. Their frustrations and fear of a very formidable enemy in the viet cong and the NVA. Some tipped over to insanity and some turned to drugs in order to deal with their struggles. This shows the cruelty of war. A must see. Such a well done movie by Stone.

Why the rotten rating?? This gem goes amongst the many greats that make christmas a magical time of the year!
5 December 2023
The cantankerous Grinch plots to destroy Christmas for the cheery residents of whoville but is confronted by a bold and generous hearted little girl named Mary Lou.

Narrated by the soothing voice of Sir Anthony Hopkins this delightful and beautifully made christmas gem is sure to make Christmas special for many generations to come and what can I say? Jim Carrey is devilishly hilarious as the Grinch. Absolutely nailed it!! Colourfully made with a mixture of CGI and normal filming, this movie comes up beautifully. Food for the eyes. Every child and parent must watch this along with all of the other great Christmas films that make Christmas such an exciting time for children. A must for your xmas collection.

A Dickens classic made hilarious by the Hensen franchise!
25 November 2023
A Christmas carol is my all time favourite Christmas tale and I've seen so many different versions, most of which seem to shine. This 1 adds some hilarious comedy to a dark tale about the stingey old miser Ebeneezer Scrooge as he embarks on an enchanted night of scares and moving moments with 3 ghosts of Christmas and it's great for small children to watch if you're a bit worried about letting them watch Robert Zemeckis's version. Michael Caine is always antertaining and does a great job in this movie. Come on folks! Watch the muppet's throw on this great story! The little tikes will love this amazing version to an amazing story!

A beautiful version of my favourite Christmas tale by Robert Zemeckis.
17 November 2023
Ebeneezer Scrooge (Jim Carrey) is a sour, stingey and greedy old miser. After cruely refusing to donate to the poor. Treating others, especially his struggling, kind a good spirit colleague Bob Cratchet appalingly. Scrooge is visited by his late friend Jacob Marley's spirit who has been exiled to an eternity among the damned. Jacob warns that if Scrooge doesn't mend his ways. His spiritual fate will be far worse and warns Scrooge that he will be visited by 3 spirits. Can they change the old dogs ways?

This tale has alway been my favourite since my teacher read the book to us in class at school. Robert Zemeckis has captured the Christmas spirit once again with this magical classic. I must mention the amazing performances by Jim Carrey as he did several characters in this film. Should kids watch this? Absolutely!! It's not a horror movie but is quite dark but that is Charles Dickens classic tale. They will love it!

Into the mind of a genius. And madness.
10 September 2023
This is a true story of a mathematical genius. John Nash (Russell Crowe) has made mathematical solutions that were never thought of and are used all over the world today and won him the Nobel prize. A man who was far ahead of his time, but a brilliant mind can border on the edge of madness. In John's younger years, he began having delusions of secret agents and being on a mission to protect his country by cracking hidden codes set by the enemy, hidden in newspaper clippings and magazines. The question is, is John really schizophrenic, or is he really involved in an operation to stop nuclear war?

I am not a fan of Russell Crowe. As a matter of fact, I think his ego is way too big for his public stature, but in this movie, he is just brilliant. It's a superb piece of acting. It's one of the best I've seen in my life. Crowe delves deep into the mind of madness and genius so well he has you wondering what is real and what is delusion. Later in the movie you find the truth. Great performances by Jennifer Connelly as Nash's beautiful and understanding wife Alicia. A woman in whom Nash may never have collected some sense of sanity without. Ed Burns is also great as the hardlined CIA operative who almost convinces John to commit the unspeakable and John Bettany as Charles. This is a great piece of cinema about the nobel prize winner John Nash and his amazing yet incredibly difficult to control life that is moving. You must watch just to see Crowe at his best. He is truly amazing in this!!

Makes 1917 look like a fairy tale.
24 April 2023
A group of young German men get duped by a army recruitment officer who has a gift for motivating into signing up for war with disillusioned hopes and aspirations of glory only to discover the hell and horrors of the great war. This story follows Paul. A young and intelligent man in the prime of his life who quickly discovers the true price of marching off to the western front and the terrible trials that face him such as watching all of his friends be slaughtered and die horrible deaths.

I must firstly say how stunning the cinematography is in this film. Definitely worthy of multiple awards. The story is very well written and captures the hell and tragedy of the great war. How this generation were fooled into thinking that they were marching to glory when trenches, shell shock and emotional scars from the stalemate of ww1 would be all they carry from this nightmare. I thought 1917 and war horse captured the great war so well but this has set the bar. Such a great movie that at many time is very hard to watch but that is war and war is hell.

A visual splendour accompanied by all the formula to make a great movie.
24 December 2022
After several years of becoming a native Navi and having a family. Jake is confronted by a whole new set of threats. To protect the omaticaya people, he must take his family and exode to an ocean tribe but being hunted by humans, he must eventually face them. But how will he defeat them?

I must admit that I wasn't expecting much from this movie. Maybe that's why my daughter and I were just blown away. What a visual splendour. I thought the 3D effects in the 1st were great, but the underwater sequences were just next level. It's just astonishing. A visual feast to behold. James Cameron did it again with all the right formulas to make this great. Great character development and a solidly suspenseful and action packed story line. In saying that, the real star is the 3D visual effects. This movie just pops! Comedy, action, and emotion were on point, too. Please see this in 3D at your cinema. It is beautiful!

Elvis (2022)

Your meal ticket is gone Colonel
15 October 2022
The true story of the rise to great fame of legendary singer Elvis presley to his tragic end and the path that led him there.

I started to watch this movie and initially thought that it was such a cliche Baz Lurhmann flamboyant style of movie. Hip hop music does not suit a movie set in the mid 50s. I must admit that somewhat irritated me. As much as modern music in Moulin Rouge irritated me but as it progressed half way through. This became a truly special experience thanks to the best portayal and such an amazing performance by Austin Butler of the legendary singer Elvis Presley. Honestly I have never been a great fan of Elvis. Now I am and Baz does deserve credit for this. He captured the tragedy that was the downward spiral from such an aspiring and dynamite performer in Elvis Presley. My wife and I cried at the end. Once again Austin Butler gives an oscar worthy performance here. He is amazing in this movie! My only gripe is that I couldn't help but feel that Tom Hanks is somewhat miscast for the first time here. Everything else I've seen him in is great but his performance as the Colonel is a little (and I mean only a litlle) bit dissapointing as the greedy self centred little fat narcissist. Other than that I love this movie and I now love Elvis! He comes across to me as a naive but generous person in nature. So so tragic and sad. This movie left a lasting impression of sadness in me and respect for king of rock n roll.

True Romance (1993)

You got a lot heart kid.
23 September 2022
Clarence (Christian Slater) is a fanatical elvis fan. So fanatical that he thinks Elvis talks to him. He lives an ordinary life in a pop culture store until the night he stumbles upon and falls in love with call girl Alabama (Patricia Arquette). When Clarence confronts Alabama's pimp drexel (Gary Oldman) a psychopathic gangster. His life takes a turn. He finds himself in situation between the mob, the police and drugs.

This is 1 of many of my all time favourite movies. The screenplay was written by Quentin Tarantino and sold to Tony Scott to fund Pupl Fiction. With Tony Scott's glossed direction and camera work and Tarantino's story we have an amazingly fun ride. Great performances from the cast and Arquette is just stunning (to look at too) as Alabama. A must see for Tarantino fans!! Classic!!

You wanna see something real scary?
23 September 2022
Had it not been for the tragic death of Vic Morrow and 2 children in a helicopter accident due to poor safety management and direction by John Landis (who was unjustly acquitted of any accountabilities) this would have been a really great movie. It still is in my eyes a great movie. It scared the hell out of me. The first story with Dan Akroyd and the last with John Lithgow being really freaky stories that I love. I still think John Landis should have been held accountable for the tragedy that occurred during the making of this movie. That's why I took a star but I highly recommend it for your enjoyment.

Baz Lurhmamm's masterpiece brings a classic love story to the modern world.
25 August 2022
So many years have past since this movie was released. This movie captured such a great decade with a classic love story by William Shakespeare. Baz Lurhmann brilliantly interpreted it for my generation to understand and executed it to perfection. Now all generations can relate to 1 of Shakespeare's greatest plays.

The music is fantastic. And the cast held very well. Dames and Dicaprio in particular. This was made for my generation and holds a great place in my heart and memories for it reminds me of my young years and the decade of celebration. The 90s but will entertain this generation too.

Omg so awful!!
6 August 2022
I'm not going to praise the good parts of this movie because there isn't any. The dinosaurs are fake looking and every scene seems like the director wanted to get all of the cast into every scene for promotional sake. Where did they go wrong with this after enjoying the first 2 Jurassic world movies so much I just hated this?! Now I do believe that the Jurassic world dinosaurs are extinct. Such a shame as I am the biggest fan of these movies. This just killed it for me. Sad!!

Kevin Costner's masterpiece.
17 June 2022
After being wounded and nearly loses his foot in battle during the American civil war. Lieutenant John Dunbar (Kevin Costner) makes a request to an insane major (Maury Chaykin) to be posted on the frontier before it dissapears. The Major agrees and John is sent to a far outpost to join other soldiers but quickly finds that they are no longer there. On his own he must make for survival as well as use diplomacy to ease tension with a local Sioux tribe. John learns that these people are not the savages his colleagues portray them to be and learns their way as well as befriending a wolf. John is now torn between taking on the Sioux lifestyle and betraying his fellow men or becoming what the army see as the enemy or can he make ties between the Indians and the army?

This is 1 of my all time favourite movies. It has such moving sentimentality and is an absolute gem by Kevin Costner. Beautifully filmed (by an Aussie oscar winner) and written. It's quite dissappointing that Costner couldn't continue his success in movie making but this 1 is among the greats. The film researches the complexities along with the simple lifestyle of the Sioux tribe that no longer exists. This also has a huge emotional impact on the audience. "Can you see. I am wind in his hair and I'm your friend" is 1 of the most moving lines in this movie. The native ways of the American Indian was beautiful and at times savage but true to the land where the white man destroyed the buffalo for pelts and the land for greed. It captures the true tragedy that is the loss of these native tribes and their ways of life on what was their own soil. An educational masterpiece that all must see and love as I & many others do. Well done Kev!!

I love a movie that is fun even if it is a bit far fetched but this is just way beyond it. It's just terrible I'm afraid. My only explanation is that everyone involved was on drugs. Lsd more than likely.

I'm not going to say much about this series of short animated films but it is a must watch. It really helps you understand why the machines have such a burning hatred for mankind. Some are not to good (hence 8 stars) but all are definitely worth watching.

Why did they do this??? They're flogging a dead horse!!
6 January 2022
To be honest I walked into the cinema with an open mind hoping that this would be a very special sequel to the first 3 movies. Omg was I wrong? The plot is an absolute twisted kerfuffle at best! It left me wondering why the producers, directors and actors (particularly Reeves and Moss) would even bother putting hard work into this mess. Some pretty bad acting too. Particularly from Jessica Henwick as Bugs. She mumbled so much through this movie. She was very hard to understand. All I can say it is destructive towards the other movies which really entertained me. They were the brain child of some really intense thinking but this movie is brainless. So dissapointing!

15 October 2021
I have more taste in my penis than the people who reviewed this. It is super low budget. So low budget that there is no cgi at all in this series. The acting is bad. The story writing is childish and like I said special effects do not exist. I usually defend a movie if it's fun to watch but flawed but this series is just so bad. Are the people on this site on drugs? This is crap!!

Endless Love (1981)

An underrated lesson in love.
18 July 2021
Performances were good in this movie. It shows how an immature love can get out of control and that your first love is always the 1 that hurts the most. Brooke Shields is just breathtaking to look at in this movie. No wonder she was 1 of the most photographed females of the 80s. Gush gush! What an amazingly beautiful face. I fell in love with her and I was only 6 years old. I think the bad ratings on this are due to the outcome of this young love but it is what it is and I enjoyed the film though it left me feeling a little empty. Just to look at Brooke Shields in her prime is worth it though. So gorgeous!

Spielberg genius at its best.
27 June 2021
After the WW2 invasion of Poland. German Nazi law is bestowed on the Poles including what the Nazis called the final solution meaning the systematic liquidation of all jews. Oscar Schindler arrives at Krakow to capitalize on the exploitation of Jewish slavery and at the same time death squad commander Amon Goeth arrives to carry out his evil orders. Oscar is about to witness the true evil intentions the Nazis have planned. How will it affect him?

This is a true masterpiece of work by Spielberg. A feat in cinema and also an educational experience in the horrors of war. Spielberg did a wonderful job in being able to touch the emotions of the audience. This movie has no comedy. That's a fact. It shows the misery jews endured during their terrible persecution by Nazis and the only bit of colour that you see will not fail to break hearts. So sad and tragic. A must see for all. I myself really understand why Israel defends it's territory so viciously after seeing this flick. Also great performances from all of the cast. Especially Liam Neeson. Ben Kingsley deservedly won the oscar for best supporting actor but I believe Liam should have also got one for the leading role and Ralph Fiennes is so brilliant as the menacingly cruel and evil Amon Goeth. This will make many generations cry and must be seen by all so we never forget not to stand by and allow crimes against humanity to be exercised.

Aliens (1986)

They don't kill you. She's alive!!
12 June 2021
After suffering a horribly traumatic encounter with an alien. Lone survivor of the cargo starship Nostromo Lt Ellen Ripley is picked up against extreme odds by a salvage team in deep space. Now she has been asked to return as an advisor on a hunt and destroy mission to save a colony and eradicate the species that wiped out her crew. With an elite marine squadron she embarks in the mission to face her fears and put her nightmares to an end but will they succeed?

This is 1 of the greatest movies ever made without a doubt in my opinion. It is definitely in my top 5. James Cameron did a superb job at making this movie and also some great performances from the cast though I think Carrie Henn wasn't a very good child actress but that is no impact whatsoever in this work of movie genius. In particular Sigourney Weaver is just fantastic as Ripley and her relationship with horribly scarred and traumatised Newt (Carrie Henn) give such great depth to the story. As for the Aliens. They are just as horrific than the original and are the true stars of this film along with a new and even more terrifying character addition. Still stands up great and is a must see for the new adult generation.

Just when you thought the Terminator series couldn't get anymore rotten than it is. Another 1 is released to disgrace the only 2 that were great. Everytime they make a new 1. It gets even worse. Why?? Is it for an extra buck? Not the worst movie I have ever seen but possibly the worst sequal. Please stop!!
