Good if you don't expect superhero-ish stuffs
1 December 2017
If you want to laugh (or at least smile), this show will certainly deliver. If you take it as a comedy show (and not superheroes), it is really funny and light.

I'd compare it to Big Bang Theory someheow (not geek humor but same atmosphere). The actors are very good and have great potential, same for the writers. The tone is just what it needs to be, which is not easy considering the concept. I think it just didn't find its public yet.

Expected disappointment but didn't happen
14 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I have just seen 2 episodes so far. I was afraid it would be a low-cost comics adaptation (not one X-men, blurry background about time and situation) but I must say I'm delighted.

It's really entertaining, no bad scripts like Flash or Arrow (so far at least). I hope it won't go down like so many other super hero shows.

Star Trek: Discovery: The Vulcan Hello (2017)
Season 1, Episode 1

Poor writing....
26 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
(This first part is spoiler free, second part is totally full of it) First the positive : the actors are (mostly) good, the special fx vary from nice to OK but I expect to see less sfx in the future, since these are the two first episodes and were meant to hook the viewer.

Now the bad : Even if you don't consider the lack of consistency with the rest of the ST universe (which I can accept since announced as being that), the plot and especially the dialog/characters psychology feel so artificial. I felt like "let's add drama here by making up whatever controversial decision".

Spoiler ahead.

The end of the desert scene is typical of that poor writing : the Captain walked to draw a sign in sand. First, I doubt that simple foot steps would make such a huge line visible from so far, second what kind of advanced technology needs that to spot people on a planet ? That was meant to be a clever ending scene but it felt in ridiculousness.

Commander Michael going herself in a high-risk mission for nothing is also an artificial plot. It was supposedly so dangerous that it was literally a dead wish (20 min. to check something totally unknown). Also, you discover later that they can heal the radiations, so the "danger" was not a real one which felt cheap. Seeing their level of technology, a robot should have been able to make the "flyby".

The ship could have slowly cleared the asteroids until they can approach and send a robot to check it closely.

The rest of the episode is always like that, illogical decisions made to create a suspense but feels so wrong.

nurse Clara ?
11 October 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Many continuity problems...

The nurse, here called Carla, is actually the character Jeanne Manners (played by Barbara Anderson) from the pilot ("the Moon and the desert"), since Steve mentions that she was there all the time before he got his bionic limbs attached.

They completely erased their love story though. The scene with the arm-wrestling was one of the best moment of the series, and the joke with the "victim of the inflation" cracked me up.

Though I find it odd that Steve didn't knock Barney out with a punch on his head, when he had the chance when coming from behind in the basement.

Monte Markham's playing is sometimes very good, sometimes overdone, like that artificial laughs when Steve tells Barney he won't be "super" anymore.

Steve mentions that Goldman plans to create a third bionic man after Barney failed. We'll see Barney again in another episode, for our pleasure.
