Crash (2004)
Watch it with someone you love
'Crash' is a movie that really touched me. As a young man, rarely does one reminded of the importance of life, love, family and friends as in this movie. Moreover, after watching, the viewer is left with the need to hug his loved ones as hard as he can. This is the type of movies you watch with a loved one.
The movie mainly deals with relationships between people of different ethnicities in America. Being a Jewish Israeli citizen, the political situation seems so obvious, that any debate is dismissed as being chewed up and redundant. Yet, this movie shook me up. The same issues we are confronted with on a daily basis, in different scenery and with different participants, seem so much clearer. While everything is divided to black and white in this movie (and other ethnic groups), the division miraculously disappears in the hands of the director. Suddenly there are only people, driven by the same fears and desires, but separated by different environments and statuses, and brain washed by different lies. In fact, here lies the beauty of 'Crash'. It doesn't try to disprove stereotypes. By it's standards, stereotypes are not the problem of this world, they are just a slight exaggeration of the harsh reality. The problem is the people who give in to those stereotypes, and by that contribute to the conflicts they are living in.
Another issues dealt by 'Crash' are, car accidents (as suggested by the title) and children's care of elderly parents. I won't elaborate, but if you wanted to take one thing from this movie, it would bee this: You can improve every aspect of your life. All you have to do is pay attention to people, to your loved ones, to the elderly. Show them respect, and people will respect you. Give them your love, and they will love you. Protect them, and you could not be harmed. Mistreat people, and the reality you live in will never change.
(And that's by the way how the movie explains also car accidents, in the first line)
The truth is that the only problem I have with 'Crash' is it's title, which has little to do with it's content. That way, It could easily be mistaken for some kind of high budget action film. But, I guess, I can understand the motives behind such a name. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
This Review is devoted with great love to my best friend, who is like a brother to me. And believe it or not, he is an Arab.
Mivtza Savta (1999)
operation: 'grandma' objective: bring grandma Haia (direct translation: alive) to burial on time
First of all I would recommend everyone in the holly land to see this movie. It deserves the statue of cult more than most cult movies. With regards to those of you who aren't familiar with Israeli mentality, 'Mivtza Savta' wouldn't mean much to you.
The story is about three brothers who's grandma dies in the most uncomfortable moment. Grandma must be buried under the time constrains. The older brother 'Krembo', an army commander who returns to the kibbutz, takes command of the operation.
There are people who would disagree with me, but I think this is the best Israeli movie ever made (yes even better than Eskimo Limon).
