Tokyo Story (1953)

Completely Overrated
29 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Of all the movies I've ever seen, this one is completely overrated. There are obvious reasons for this fact: 1- The film is clearly boring, the rhythm of the film is very slow, there are many repetitive and daily conversations in it.

2- The story of the film does not have any ups and downs, the story is not very important. After a short time, it is hard to remember the main story of the movie. For this reason, it is enough to compare the film with other Japanese films such as Ikiro, Yojimbo, Rashamon, or High and Low, each of which has a specific story characteristic.

3- There is no effective dialogue in the movie. A dialogue that can be remembered years later.

4- There is no special and extraordinary role and character. All actors are of medium or low level.

5- In the entire story of the film, there is no disrespect to parents in the story of the film. There is no obvious lack of attention towards the parents. Children always respect their parents despite being busy. Even when the father comes home drunk in the middle of the night, the girl's behavior is reasonable and logical.

6- Respect always brings respect. The past behavior of these parents with their children is not shown in the movie. Even in the dialogue, the daughter complains about her father's bad behavior in her youth and his drunkenness. So we can not judge children for their behavior.

In general, the film can only be viewed from the point of view of Japanese people's behavior in post WWII, otherwise the film does not have any positive points.

best films in the history of cinema about war
24 March 2023
One of the first and best films in the history of cinema about war.

This film can also be considered the most complete film about war. All different aspects, both on the battlefield and in cities far from the war. All the contradictions about the war, all the hardships and sufferings of the soldiers, for what? A question that is well answered in this movie. People who are miles away from war and do not have the slightest mentality about war, consider themselves to understand war even better than soldiers. And these are the true facts of every war. Anyone who has experienced a war in his life, has touched the moment of this movie with his skin and soul.

And we must remember that this masterpiece was produced in 1930, that is, 93 years ago. A classic and unique movie! A must see movie...
