Funnier than it has any right to be

This show is all at once avant garde, transgressive, satirical, but also a spoof of avant garde transgressive satire. Its blue and smart and dumb and raises questions that make you thing as well as making you think ", did a show this poorly constructed actually make me think so deeply". If you're strapped for time but want to watch something of quality but need it to be easy and make help you wind down at the end of the day then you need to plug this show in once or twice a week. I wrote this review drunk, but as a final last pitch, I would describe it as basically what it would be like if George Saunders huffed gasoline and was dropped off in Eastern Tennessee and had a savant/autistic kid with Steve King. Sold yet? Glad I could sell you on it.

Ashton Kutcher's best performance in years

Warning: Spoilers
**May Contain Spoilers*

The cinematography is to die for and the Re-Mark-Table score (pun intended) is worthy of its own release, but what makes this movie great is its anarchic progression of individual scenes rather than a total piece. The animal husbandry scenes are at once enormously conservative and transgressive. The transgender lava-lamp scene . I think Michael Shannon really killed that deer-IDK. What I do know is that every 14 minutes is something new and exciting worthy of the Sicilian Scene. Whether the bicycle pump is alive or not, I don't kare (two puns in one sitting). A regressive costume drama into American paternity, a master- class in optometry, and a riveting wolf documentary. Best picture of the decade.

Better than what this forum says--slightly worse than what critics say

I'm split. I think that this film could historically be one of those great films like Yi Yi or In the Mood for Love that will never be accepted in a popular canon like Singin' in the Rain or Apocalypse Now would be. I also feel that it is a bit over-hyped by critics. It's a bit moody, leans too much on stereotypes (I think a lot of the justifications for this are lazy and just band-aids over a lazy artistic decision), and is a bit underwrought for my tastes.

However, if you watch this film and can't respect the impossibly strong technical aspects, the great acting, cinematography, and dialogue, then you probably don't expect too much from your movies. This is not a crowd- pleaser or even a generally pleasing movie. I cried at the end of this movie, but I also dozed off in the middle. It's a damn good movie and possibly will be great in hindsight. It's not perfect though and if you think you won't enjoy it then you probably won't enjoy it.

Great for what it is

It is a GREAT piece of internet-only content that has at least thirty strong jokes and that remains fun, engaging, and enjoyable experimental throughout. Think Cheech and Chong or Sealab 2021. It rolls along happily from bit to bit to bit at the expense of no particular policy or American ideals, just the personality of Donald Drumpf

It should not be considered a classic piece of political satire like many overeager people have claimed. It's a bit shallow and it's jokes are hit or miss. Rather, it is a great movie when you consider its context. This movie was written very quickly with that false notion that it would eventually become irrelevant. Therefore the script never got the chance to be worked on and improved over the course of say 6 months through the hands of 5-10 writers.

If you made it down here, I want to direct you to the review made by Peefyn who gives a spot on analysis of genre. This doesn't deserve to be compared to Anchorman or Blazing Saddles or Life of Brian. It is more at the level of a TV movie, just an extremely well-written and often funny one.
