Brooklyn Nine-Nine (2013–2021)

A nice change to the usual comedy shows from over the pond...
30 March 2014
We all know like eating at a restaurant comedy is a very subjective topic... One guys side splitter is another guys yawn...

I cannot think of any US comedy shows of recent memory that I have found funny or wanted to see more of.... Just so anyone reading gets a taste of my humour.. I enjoy Monty Python, Fast Show, Big Train, Harry Enfield and hate comedy like Micheal McIntyre et al....

As for US shows I find Family Guy funny and going back I really liked Police Squad (TV show).... I cannot think of any other US show and can't stand shows like one and a half men, geek next door or anything like that...

I say all that so anyone reading can gauge what I enjoy...

I really enjoyed this show... First episode I wasn't so sure but the more I watch it the funnier it seems to get... Whether that's the writing or getting to know the characters etc I ain't sure but I can say that I find each episode getting better.. I am currently as far as the one after thanksgiving... Which ever that one is.?

I find all the characters funny in their own right but funnier when playing off each other...

So if you want something that is slightly different and light hearted and enjoyable then this is one you should try... It ain't a constant laugh out loud .. But it is consistently funny... With the odd laugh out loud.... Which is more important to me than the odd really funny scene

But if you take any recommendation from my review then don't give up after the first episode... Or even the second... But by the third I think it will be a regular watch for anyone wanting some light relief...

NCIS (2003– )
Things ain't what they used to be...!
29 March 2014
I started watching this series a few years after it started and went back through previous seasons to catch up...

Admittedly you need to suspend any sense of reality to enjoy this show as with many other similar shows... however thats a good thing as TV shows are about escaping and stepping into an alternate world...with alternate characters...

So with that in mind I have enjoyed the shows..... I was never a lover of Ziva character but it worked within the team of characters... a balance I guess you could say...

I have been watching since the new character to replace Ziva arrived and although as a character, Ellie really doesn't work for me.... the character itself isn't in line with the shows balance...

I know some reviews mention her traits and methods within the show... that to be honest isn't the problem for me... its the way that character sits within the team and ultimately the show.... as we all know every character is unrealistic and more of a caricature.... so this new character and her traits aren't for me the issue...its the way that particular character just doesn't work within the team and balance of the show.... by deliberately avoiding going for a similar character as Ziva the makers have tried to go a different way and to me it ain't worked.... I have seen a few guest characters that would work better and create good relationships and open more story lines... this character ain't one of them...I find myself forwarding her scenes to avoid the irritation her character brings...I have only found myself being irritated by one other character during the shows seasons and that is the Coast Guard Agent Borin she was terrible...so OTT at trying to be something she clearly couldn't be .... like some sort of female Gibbs character... she was really irritating both as a character and as the actress trying to play that role ... maybe a different actress would have made that work but certainly not Diane Neal...

I hope the makers of the show do change this new character..I can see myself drifting away from this show if they don't...

But then maybe the other side of the coin is that the show is not putting out the same level of episodes and story lines that it used to... and my dislike of that new character is more about the overall than just the that..?

Turks & Caicos (2014 TV Movie)
8/10
A great sequel or just as good as a stand alone film
23 March 2014
Warning: Spoilers
As some will know this is a follow-on to a previous BBC drama called 'Page Eight'

You definitely do not need to have seen the first drama to understand or appreciate this drama.... However if you have it will help to understand a few of the plot lines in this drama... Namely... A better understanding as to why the lead is forced into working with the CIA operative and also one of the last scenes between the lead and his ex -girlfriend before they try to escape...

In addition it will also help with understanding the lead character himself and his motivations.... However I am sure anyone watching this without seeing the first drama will have no trouble enjoying and appreciating this quality work...

Overall it is a great piece of drama with a well written story and believe able characters... It isn't a Bondesque or other type of action spy drama and nor is it a John LeCarre type spy story.... But it is a great drama which allows you to get into the story and keeps you interested in the development of the characters and how they react to the evolving storyline...

I am pleased that a second film was made.. And if I am honest I do hope that a third is made with Bill Nighy.... I really enjoy his character and his gentlemanly methods and firm principles in an ever changing world....
