Sanctuary: A Witch's Tale (2024)
Superb drama with witchcraft
One of those pieces, where first episodes are bland and won't catch, but if you make it past that, you will be hooked and suddenly wait for more. I saw six episodes so far and I still don't know, how it will end, which is impressive, as on most of current series, I know mostly after two episodes all basic story lines. IT IS UNPREDICTABLE and annoying, and I love it.
I really don't understand why are people making those 1 or 2 rating reviews after seeing one episode (mostly not whole) and writing total nonsense. Watch it first and then come back again. You won't be disappointed. But if you are only about special effects and glorious, but bland story lines, then pass. Its not for you.
Stowaway (2021)
Not blockbuster, but nice calm sci-fi movie
What can I say, there are no big bangs, no supermans, no Gravity suspense. In my opinion this is the way normal astronauts would act. They got that spot on. There is a lot of problems from the point of science (imprecise and impossible), but well, who cares. It is a movie, not a documentary. I actually liked it. I see those negative reviews as a little too harsh. It is not a film for everyone. Not a film for adrenaline junkies. But if you like space and space adventures, then it is for you.
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
Bland or... NOT?
I had to force myself to watch first three episodes. It was slow, tedious, Picard was crying over mistakes of past... I was seriously deciding if that is really a Star Trek I want to watch. Well, not anymore, I saw episode N. 4. And old show is back with Seven of Nine! Holy hell, what a ride this will be. I am in love already. This is just a late bloomer. And to everyone who is hating this for not being a Star Trek utopia... Real world is not a Star Trek utopia and never will be. This is pretty much realistic new Star Trek. Take it or leave it.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
A lot of hurt trekies here, who are on a crusade
I like this show. I did not like the darkness and brutality of first series too much, but second series is much, much better. I always had a problem with original Star Treks as they were absolutely unbelievable. I can believe this future, even if I have to close my eyes to blatant nonsense some time, but that you have to do even in Expanse... Yes, there could be a little less of emotions, but it has a drive and is pretty much unpredictable, which is practically the most important thing on todays shows.
For All Mankind (2019)
One of a kind
You know Man in the High Castle? That Amazon Prime show doing alternate reality, where US lost 2nd WW? Well, they chose wrong topic. I believe this is way, way better then that. Don't believe to those reviewers who saw one or two episodes and simply sent this to trash. This is how the greatest adventure of mankind could have been even better and get us so more far away. Everything is exactly to the point. I am pretty good at finding contradictions or nonsenses, and I did not find anything in this. It is just perfect.
Watchmen (2019)
What did I just see?
I really don't undestand, what authors are trying to say. Maybe I am too normal and not enough modern. For someone from Europe this simply does not make sense. Maybe in some superbly violent suburbs in US, this might make sense, but I really don't understand, what is the meaning of this nonsensical mixup. One point for it being different. One point for being Watchmen and one more point for possible future improvement.
See You Yesterday (2019)
Impossible to make
This movie is bad. But it is bad for good intentions. They tried to put two geniuses into neibourhood of stupidity. Show, that inteligence can thrive even there. But it simply cannot work. Because by being genius, you will certainly act like one and not like a stupid monkey running around and messing things up... Any real genius of this calliber would simply be long gone.
Game of Thrones: The Bells (2019)
Why so many negative comments?
I read here all those negative reviews and all I can do is wonder. Why? They killed your loved characters? Well, deal with it, it is GOT and always was! Often people say main characters are acting illogicaly. I did not see one illogical moment in there that would really matter and scream to me. Jon is in love and loyal. He was ALWAYS like that. Sansa is acting like stupid girl, well she always was like that. Well, she was also always like that. Varys and Tyrion? They do, what they must, but they also (dis)trust their friends and loved ones. Remember. This is epic tale. Not some real world skirmish from mediaval ages. And it is also ending. You thought that GOT was somehome more real then the rest? Cmon. For me this was a ten. Because it was good and a little unexpected. I give everything that suprises me nowadays a 10.
Altered Carbon (2018)
One of the best series in my life
I am sci-fi fan and this was one of three best series of all time I have EVER seen. This thing just grips you and WON'T let you go. Ever. If there was more then 10 episodes, I would stop stop sleeping, going to work, doing ANYTHING. Do you remember when watching Avatar you were amazed how real everything looked? Well, this is something similar. You will simply believe, this is future. Horrifying, amazing, sometimes even beautiful one. I recommend you, simply watch it and you will see.
Tomorrowland (2015)
Film about smart people filmed by sadly not so smart people
Tomorrowland is about a dreams. Dreams of people around us, dreams of geniuses, who are trying to change anything. Problem is, this film is made from the viewing point of green nut (at least second half of it), who isn't questioning todays green truths", and not from the view point of rebel, who is trying to preserve dreams of other people, as it tried to convince us. Those truths" completely destroyed the second half of film for me. I don't see connection between better tomorrow and rotating wind power plants. Is there a connection? I believe not.
This film just failed it's own stated ideals.
But it was not a complete failure. Actors performed very well, I loved that girl from Under the dome. No need for praise of George Clooney. He did very well.
And special effects were very convincing and spectacular.
