Bhoothakaalam (2022)
Undoubtedly one of the best ever in world cinema.
Its funny that some people have a typical tendency to not accept something made in malayalam as the best ever in a particular genre. I have seen movies like conjuring, lights out, the witch, hereditary, insidious etc in hollywood and darna mana hai, raaz etc in bollywood. Mentioning these movies here jst for you to know that M not someone naive about horror movies. After watching all these movies I can undoubtedly say this is one of the best horror movies ever made in world cinema. Just cos its a malayalam movie made with a small budget, the brilliance in its making and the amazing performances by the lead actors Revathi and Shane Nigam cannot be disregarded. For me conjuring was when I was scared the most till now. But while watching Bhoothakaalam the last half n hour to 40 mins was damn scary for me. I've never been so scared watching any other movie till date. And that's what a horror movie is supposed to do. Scare the hell out of the viewer. And this movie does that brilliantly. Amazing direction by Rahul Sadashivan. I don't know whether this director has directed any previous movies or not. The best part of the movie that I felt was that they don't reveal the face of the ghost at all and that suspense is what makes it more scary throughout. We constantly keep feeling damn will it be revealed, how's it gonna look n so on. When something is unknown that's when it is the scariest. In movies where they show the faces of the ghosts, well at first instance it feels scary but then its doesn't after that cos its not unknown anymore and there isn't much mystery behind the way it looks. I think that mystery and suspense is what makes this movie so engaging. A must watch for sure.
Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea (2021)
Loved it !!!! Must watch for sensible movie lovers.
This movie is strictly not for people who love the so called mass movies. This is not a pulimurugan sort of movie. The action sequences are shown in sensible and convincing way. Being someone form the animation industry since last 10 years, I can say that the visual effects were amazing considering that its an indian movie. The whole movie gives you a large scale feel while watching it, and it has to be experienced in theatre. People who are degrading the movie are may be the ones who were expecting a KGF, Bahubali, pulimurugan sort of movie. No brainer movies like KGF, lot of scenes in Bahubali, pulimurugan, dhoom series etc are a joke. It makes the indian audiences appear dumb in front of the rest of the world, cos these movies were a big success. Marakkar is a movie which shows history in a realistic and fascinating way. Its a movie for people who like to watch sensible movies. Casting, action sequences, visual effects were done very well. I didn't feel the movie as too much lagging as its being said in a lot negative reviews. When it's a history based movie a bit of lag is expected in order to show the details of the incidents. Only negative I felt were the locations, cos in many places the locations didn't look like kerala and also the costumes worn by a lot of background actors didn't seem like the dresses which was worn by people during that era. All the actors were brilliant in their performances. Mohanlal was amazing as expected. Overall Marakkar is worth watching in theatre and was worth the wait. I loved Kalapani when I watched it in theatre years back and I loved Marakkar too.
Pengalila (2019)
Superb movie, sad to see that this moviy wasn't promoted enough.
Its very sad see that such movies aren't promoted enough. Many malayalees don't even know about such a good movie. Great performance by Lal, hats off. He was amazing and the acting so damn realistic. Overall performance by everyone was good. Was surprised to see Iniya in such a role, she was good. The chemistry between the little girl and Lal was adorable. Beautifully directed was very realistically shot. Narain was good too. After Lal, it was lil girl who was amazing with her performances. Biggest praise goes to the director T.V Chandran for executing a good script and bringing out amazing performances from everyone.
Anjaam Pathiraa (2020)
A great thriller, could've done a better casting.
The movie is really gripping and makes u think. A well scripted and brilliantly directed movie. Please ignore the downplaying reviews by people who claim themselves as hollywood watchers, they're the ones who can't appreciate a well made malayalam movie. The director has focused on many mynute details in the movie like the milk shake that's half drunk by indrans, the name board/banner of the clinic's name outside kunjacko's house etc as shown in few youtube vids. So I don't think the movie has any so called loopholes as some people are talking about it, if a director has focused on so many little details which most of the audience can't notice at first watch how can he make such a big blunder in his script. The so called mistake shown in the movie about the statue etc must be having some reason behind it, which might be continued in the upcoming part of the movie. So guys watch it, its definitely worth it.
Bhramaram (2009)
Great Movie and above all unbelievable acting !!
I just simply love this movie, every time this movie is on television I watch it. the acting done lead actor Mohanlal is just unbelievable. His acting really connects with the audience. Climax was the best part of the movie even might make you emotional. The child actress as Mohanlal's daughter was disappointing. Kalpana as Mohanlal's mother too acted brilliantly. Movie does manage to maintain the intensity right through.I have always been a fan of director Blessy's movies. Even though the suspense can be predicted just before the climax, its still OK and might be done by the director intentionally. The use of house fly's wing flapping sound here and there right the movie is also a brilliant thought. Also the song annarakanna vaa was good to hear placed properly in the movie
