Kalank (2019)
Performances are Top Notch
Bahaar Begum is the life of Kalank, had her back story been more meated out, the emotional quotient of the movie would have been on another level. Madhuri Dixit, you are a treasure to this Industry. Superb Musical score!
Tamasha (2015)
Imtiaz Ali pieces together a beautiful film
Contrary to all the negative reviews up for Tamasha, I admire Imtiaz Ali for giving us a complex film that doesn't allow you to guess everything right away. His format of story telling in Tamasha is compelling, and a piece of art. Each frame of the movie is like a portrait. Kudos to the cinematographer.
The characters are complex, and played well by the head cast. Ranbir delivers and how too. Deepika also delivers. I like that the movie is central to the two characters, and that allows you to get into their relationship schematics. The surroundings also play a huge part and is integral to the movie, it adds to the character dimensions.
I can understand the negative reviews, if only for the part of confusion; the format of story telling is not direct and you have piece parts of the story quickly in your mind to understand whats happening on screen. This is not one of those leave your brain at home movies. You have to think, understand the protagonists; delve into their psyche.
Having said this, Imtiaz Ali pieces together a beautiful film; not without its negatives though. Ranbeer's character eccentrics shocks you at times.
The relationship dynamics between the protagonists have been highlighted as the main negative in almost all the online reviews; but to me its one of the movies biggest strengths. They don't run between trees, pine for each other or even sing songs of despair. Its real!
The music is a highlight and fits well in the movie. IMHO one of the better soundtracks of the year as well.
If just for one watch, go and see Imtiaz Ali shine above the Bollywood stereotype.
