Terrifier (2016)
Light on Plot, High on Gore, Blood & Surprises
A clown menaces women on Halloween.
A tightly paced film with tons of great FX, blood & gore. It's even got torture porn. There's no dull moments. Worth watching.
All Through the House (2015)
Christmas Carnage
Rachel is sad this Christmas, she misses her mom. Her neighbor, Mrs. Garrett is mourning her daughter's mysterious disappearance.
Mrs. Garrett is celebrating by filling her house with creepy mannequins. Rachel is invited over to help with the decorating.
Meanwhile, lovely ladies are trying to get some Christmas coitus. A psycho Santa runs around with garden sheers collecting his own bag of genitals.
Don't be fooled by the stilted writing & over the top acting. You get used to it. The prize is a twisty plot, tons of gore and a really messed up family gathering. Mrs. Garrett should get an award, she ratchets it up to a rare level of crazy.
The big reveal was exciting even though I had already guessed the killer's identity. I still didn't figure out the whole story.
The blood & special effects are uneven. At times you can see the edges of appliances, at others it is flawlessly executed. The strangest part is that the blood appears to be mixed on site (at one time effects artists made their own with a recipe) so it varies from red to brown to black. This makes it even more disgusting.
I want to see more of this director's films.
Granny's House (2015)
Hidden Creepy Gem
Rebecca is hired to keep Marion company by her son. Marion resists the idea that she needs help. Rebecca is charming & breaks through her resolve.
She convinces Marion to post on a site that offers free rooms to traveling strangers. Meeting people is fun. Rebecca loves 'collecting' new friends.
Don't be fooled by the acting. The compelling plot & slow onset of dread overcomes all. A twisted dark story. These sweet ladies can't be trusted.
I am not a friend or family member. I gain nothing by this review. I just hate seeing worthy independent cinema slammed.
Cut/Print (2012)
Snuff With a Sense of Humour
I found this without reading any recommendations about it. Basically it's about snuff.
Some filmmakers are making a fake snuff movie & they receive a mysterious package that says it's the real deal.
What is interesting is how the rather dusty subject of snuff is handled. This movie has a sense of humour. The director & crew bicker amongst themselves & act somewhat goofy. I really found this an appealing break between some very disturbing snuff images. The acting was decent for an independent production.
The only complaint I have is that the film seems disjointed at times because there's a lot going on & not everything is explained. At least once I had to catch up with the plot. That's fine. It's a small issue.
Definitely worth repeat viewings & I am sad to find that it's not available on DVD from Amazon.
