Chef (2014)
Bullshit feel-good pseudo hipster Drivel. Boring Boring Boring!
Behind the fleeting scenes of Robert Downey Jr, Sofia Vergara's good looks and the tasty looking food there is very little substance to this awful movie. Jon Favreau is very annoying in this part, his crappy acting just makes you want to hit him. Full of cringe worthy 'father son bonding' which seems very forced. This movie is basically an excuse to advertise twitter and for Jon favreau to make some lame point about critics. There are also some serious things that needed explaining in this movie, the biggest being how could such a self centered fat git with no money and the personality of a moldy sandwich get such a hot wife in the first place. I hated this movie and I want 114 minutes of my life back.
The Rover (2014)
Grim, bleak and bloody Fantastic.
A visually stunning and surreal film which left me perplexed and amazed. Guy Pierce is a marvel, who knew anyone could do so much with a script that is about ten words long, 'Under' acting at its best.
I never really thought much of Robert Pattinson up until now but he is also surprisingly excellent in his risky supporting role.
Very original, very Australian and definitely not a film for the masses, it's certainly open to interpretation. Shockingly violent, dark, gritty, confusing and awkward. But it's the best thing I've seen in years.
If you are bored with the ten a penny 'Blockbusters' that Hollywood churns out by the dozen then I would thoroughly recommend this thought provoking and refreshingly different film. Ten out of ten.
Utopia (2013)
I feel less intelligent having seen this film.
Deceptive journalism at its best. A thoroughly one sided and repetitive film. John Pilger is a self righteous git who edits facts, interviews and footage to suit his point of view.
Cheap tricks like adding foreboding music and dark shaky film effects are used to accompany many shots featuring the Australian army, police, government and other opposing parties.
Token attempts to appear unbiased by allowing people to explain their actions regarding the aboriginal people are few and often cut short.
Yes the aboriginal people have suffered many injustices over the years and more needs to be done, but Pilger paints a picture of a demonic race of white Australians mercilessly eradicating the entirely innocent indigenous population. The whole film is focused on blame and not once does he show or mention anything positive that the Australian government is doing or has ever done to help.
I feel less intelligent having seen this film, it seems like John Pilger has taken many a leaf from 'A Current affair' and 'Today tonight'. Incitive rubbish. Do not waste your time.
