Another Studio Trigger hit.
18 September 2022
Unlike apparently most of the reviewers, I knew this would probably be pretty amazing. I can't think of a single anime Studio Trigger has done that wasn't great.

So indeed, Studio Trigger delivered fully. The world of CyberPunk: 2077 brought to life. Some of the scenes looked like they were directly from the game, so you know the animators hit that juice big time. They really got the spirit of Night City right.

I'm tempted to say, there was even a Breaking Bad homage at the end. You'll know it when you see it.

All in all, Studio Trigger did their homework and delivered. Now I just hope Netflix delivers a season 2.

The Boys Presents: Diabolical: BFFs (2022)

As a fan of potty humor, this is epic.
29 April 2022
The super low rating of this episode only solidifies my opinion that this is perhaps one of the greatest animations of potty humor anywhere.

If one of your most memorable moments from "Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd" was the sh*t part, this ep. Is for you.

I wasn't expecting the fecal feast for the eyes that this turned out to be, and I can only marvel at the mastery of the writer's self expression.

This is a Rembrandt, floating in the sewer of our dreams.

What unexpected fun!
28 April 2022
With a pretty low IMDB rating I wasn't expecting much, so I was pleasently surprised.

I found it to be quite a bit more fun and entertaining than Independence Day, which paradoxically has a higher rating than this film.

If you enjoy late 90's conspiracy theories and Sci-fi flicks, you can't go wrong with this film.

It's also more upbeat and positive than people expect I guess, but for me, it hit the spot.

Steaming midden heap

I gave them a movie 3 stars. 1 star for great CG. 1 star for Milla Jovovich. 1/2 star for Tony Jaa and 1/2 star for Ron Perlman.

Tony and Ron get half stars because they were just absolutely wasted in this movie, much like this movie wasted my brain into the dessert of MH.

This movie isn't even close to the game; has no plot, and is just a big budget of awfulness.

I can't believe I powered through this movie sober.

Absolutely grim and depressing.
31 October 2019
I saw this movie a few years ago, and for better or worse, it stuck with me. It's perhaps the most grim, depressing movie I've ever seen. Perhaps in the way it just doesn't let up in it's continuous downward spiral.

In truth, I absolutely hate this movie. But I hate it for the subject matter, not the execution. It's a work of art that will haunt you.

There's only one other movie that is similar to this level of grim, The Divide.

The movie we were looking for.
28 October 2019
Most of the low level reviews are political. Yes, this movie makes a statement about the current political environment. It's not the mindless romp we've been accustomed to seeing. I guess that rubs some people the wrong way.

This movie gives me a lot of the same feels as The Sarah Connor Chronicles. If you enjoyed that series, I guarantee you'll love this movie.

I'd also like to add, that it seems a lot of people didn't understand how the time travel aspect worked with the different Terminators. It doesn't require a whole lot of mental capacity to figure out, and it's fun to think about...

A masterpiece of animation
4 October 2019
Remember those days when you were in school. Doodling away and staring out your window.

Well, those doodles have come alive and populated the City of Rott. What's impressive is the Frank Sudol did it all himself. From the drawing to animation to the voice acting. Yes, all the voice acting.

I admire you Frank. You pushed through it. You gave birth to something I couldn't tear my eyes away from.

Pretty trippy gorefest with a slightly above B movie budget. Grab some friends, some weed, and enjoy!

It takes a fan to sit through it...
5 October 2016
I am that fan. I sat through it. All of it. I forced myself; Clockwork Orange style, to watch every minute of it.

I can't say it was terrible, but it wasn't good either. I had medium to average hopes for this movie. Given the time that has passed since Phantasm 4, and bringing back some of the original characters, is a tough thing to do. I think that part, they handled rather well, they tied things up in a rather roundabout way. So if you want to experience some kind of closure, this movie does offer a bit of that.

The production value of this movie is non-existent. It's just above a college level movie. There are maybe 2-3 good SFX moments, and some of the deaths are amusing. The writing is just a continuation of the previous movies... literally the same.. expect 1980's-1990's dialogue here...

This movie is definitely geared at fans. It follows through and continues the Tall Man mythos, and if nothing else, this is your last chance to watch Angus Scrimm one last time reprising his role. That, in itself, for fans, is worth it. If you've never watched any of the Phantasm films, you will want to avoid this. Watch the old movies instead.

I hope they reboot the franchise with a real budget, real writers, etc.

Capsule (2015)

Shot on location. Inside a cardboard box.
28 September 2016
The whole movie is set inside the 'capsule'. We've seen this a million times before. There's nothing new or innovative here. No real story to tell. Even the hallucinations are all old hat. I mean come on, the old 'woman in the cockpit asking him to wake up', ugh.

This movie feels like some guys got a cardboard box, part of a hazmat suit, and dumpster dived for the rest of the capsule cockpit. This review probably has more content then this film.

Twelve and half men this movie is not. Spare yourself a painful evening and pass on this dreck.

Watchable at x16 speed.

Purely awful
26 August 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not sure what demographic this show is actually aimed at. There's blood, killing, and death, so I assume it's for a double digit age demographic.

The problem here is, the show is beyond shallow. The characters are all mentally inept, and the writing is terrible. I won't even get into the plot holes.

I think my growing distaste for the show finally reached the boiling point with the big countdown box with a BUTTON, magically appearing on a nuke being sold at auction.

This show was written by 5 year olds, for 5 year olds. Which wouldn't be that bad, if the blood and violence wasn't there. Hence my confusion as to whom this show is aimed at.

Having just watched the first episode of 'The Tick', that show is Shakespeare compared to this Barney and Friends.

My teenage daughter is barely able to watch this. I'm trying to find excuses not to watch this.

About the only redeeming quality here is the budget. There's some OK fighting and shooting. If there wasn't, I would have stopped watching after the 2nd episode.

Selling bread in a post 9/11 world.
27 June 2016
A fascinating and moving tale of a young Muslim girl in Kenya selling flat breads. She's a very dedicated seller. Braving armed Islamic militants, finicky buyers and hellfire missiles.

This movie is about ten years too late with it's moral questions. The thresholds struggled with have long been crossed.

I was hoping to see more of the drone spy tech, as the movie trailers alluded to. But all we got was a snapshot of the drone program from ten years ago.

I doubt such worries, as presented in the movie, exist now. Still a decent distraction...

Fantastic!
3 December 2015
Apparently. Unbeknownst to me. Director Károly Ujj Mészáros, is some kind of love child of Guy Ritchie and Jean-Pierre Jeunet.

If you get what I'm putting out there. You're going to love this movie. Some dark comedy and humor; good story telling, and fantastic characters; interwoven with Japanese Kitsune lore, and lots and lots of murder. All set in 1970's Hungary. Did I mention a curse, and Japanese fast food? In there too. Plenty of it... with murder.

It's a shame this kind of movie is a rarity these days. Just goes to show, good writing and storytelling beat out the CG filled crap we're fed these days.

Don't miss it. Really. Did I mention all the murder? :)

The epic non-battle
20 February 2015
If we were reviewing college movies, I would give this a solid 5, and B for the movie making class.

But since this is a real movie, it's just barf. To be fair, I took one look at the terrible post production, flat acting, and fast forwarded right through it at 20x. I caught maybe one action scene. They get an extra point for decent makeup.

Some of the issues might be fixed by a re-edit and better post production. It needs to be really tightened up. I'm surprised no one stopped the director and asked them, what they were doing.

This is MST:3k material.

A Mortal Combat remake.. without the cool characters..
28 April 2014
"... unknowing martial artists are summoned to a mysterious island to compete in a tournament whose outcome will decide the fate of the world."

That was the plot for Mortal Combat. It worked there because you had some fun characters.

Doesn't work as well here when you don't have Raiden or Sub-Zero. Which is too bad, it would have certainly made this film more bearable. Perhaps it was because I watched with both subs and dubs, but I found pretty much everything retarded... except for the fight scenes.

If you like Kung-Fu movies, it's worth a watch for the fight scenes, the movie is fun... just a bad Mortal Combat remake...

If you enjoyed ALIENS 2....
7 November 2013
While this movie is far from the masterful creation that is Aliens 2, it has many similarities. Enough of them to make quite an enjoyable film. I'm saddened at the low IMDb rating this film has. The acting of the lead actors is decent. The supporting actors are the usual military grunt types, with parallels to the marines in the Aliens 2 movie.

With mutants, fun tech, and plenty of gore, there's not much not to love about this movie.

The only thing that felt out of place to me is the FPS scene. It reminded me too much of the Uwe Bols' 'house of the dead' travesty.

Definitely a popcorn flick to enjoy with your friends.

Game over man, Game over! errr.. I mean Semper Fi Mo..........

Great, fun flick!
1 July 2012
I've never had the pleasure of reading the book, so I went in without preconceptions.

It was a fun flick, good story, great FX, and come on, it's Abe killing vampires! How can it suck??

Can't believe some of the low reviews people are giving it because it's not true to the book. I wouldn't know, but for what it is, it was a ton of fun. My 8yo just loved it as well.

Dinged 1 star because of an editing goof. I can see where it would make things confusing for some who didn't recognize it as such.

Overall, definitely worth the price of admission.
