Charmed (2018)
Political correctness, political correctness everywhere.
First and foremost, I must say I am a big Charmed(1998) fan. I understand it has a lot of plot holes but I don't mind because it's beautiful show with strong, intelligent and independent women. This quasi reboot is nothing like it. It might bear it's name but it doesn't have the Charmed spirit, charisma, witty humor and millions of other things that made the show, in my opinion a "lightning in a bottle". It's Charmed without the charm. Prue, Piper, Phoebe and Paige are the true feminists. They were far from the "look-at-me-I-am-feminazi" act and look, they fought for their rights as individuals in a healthy, rational way, because every human being has it's right to be the way they are and search for themselves as long as they're not a threat to society, which is what they did throughout the whole series. The new "Charmed" ARE a threat, because of their stupidity which they're spreading on the new generations, hence, this series needs to be vanquished (ha-ha). Original cast were successful, sexy and highly intelligent women that did not go around punching guys or simply hating them simply because they're men, that is just immature and plain stupid. New "charmed" have the capacity of 5 year old girls, that heard a word and just bluntly say it and stand behind it without understanding the true meaning, quite like all women calling themselves "feminists" today. And what is up with the oldest sister? Why change the race? She was written a certain way, let her stay that way. Imagine Blade being white, Morpheus (The Matrix) being white, or reboot with every Eddie Murphy movie with a white guy.. It's just simply..no.. And as if the stupidly portrayed feminism, change of race wasn't enough, they had to make the smallest one vegan too. It's just ridiculous. I mean, I don't even know if the old Charmed ones were vegan or not, it is not a subject I want to hear about when watching a series. What's up with that? If I want to hear what someone is eating I might call a friend or my boyfriend. While we're on the subject on boyfriend/girlfriend why the homosexual sister. Why? Seriously, why? Did they thought feminism, veganism, lesbiansm and a change of race can improve a series? No! I don't want to see that on TV, everyone is aware enough thank you! Sometimes I think I can hear all the politically correct activists from the privacy of my bathroom! I don't want to see a stupid sorority girl who sits on her phone all day and "falls in love" with a boy that she has a 5 min conversation with and doesn't eat meat! I can see that on one of the social networks! I don't want to see a lesbian with no life screaming she is a lesbian and a feminist! Is this all they can do and think about? That's it? This is the new generation? And don't get me started on the awful, god forsaken music. What could have improved it would have been not calling it a reboot (so they didn't shame the name like this), or if making it a reboot, don't change everything, cast the old actors for a sequel or a spin-off. People today are so concerned with every stupid little thing, how they look, lgbtq rights, race rights, veganism...If I am interested in something, I will open google and read, you don't need to spam it in every single movie and show. It's okay to be gay, it's okay to be vegan, it's okay to be white, black, yellow, green, red, giraffe, a car... Be whatever you want, but DON'T SPAM IT in every god damn second of my god damn life. I wish there was an ad blocker for everytime something on these subjects pops out in an episode or in a movie. Everyone just need to chill, let their creativity flow and give us a series that we can actually enjoy, something new and original, not something borrowed/copied. Just, stop the plagiarism.
The Neon Demon (2016)
Not for everyone's taste.
Some will say this movie is soulless trash, visually stunning but nothing inside, no story, no plot. And that is exactly what the movie is about. Outside beauty. It's superficial and the person, as some of the characters you'll come across in "The Neon Demon", might be dead inside. Beauty is depicted through the characters, lightning, with every camera angle, through the whole atmosphere which will leave you feeling empty. Even the conversations they have are regarding beauty. The movie is about the inner ugliness of the people surrounding our protagonist - Jesse, how she copes with it and how she is devoured by the beauty world by giving into it. I do agree that this movie has nothing new to say, but by that analogy all the movies have nothing new to say. Every movie is about things we come across in every day life, of course not to the extent the movies show it. I guess the bad reviews are from hasty, unpatient people that like action movies where good plot is concidered "Uugh, my wife/kid/dog got killed! I'm gonna spend the next hour killing and destroying!" Nicolas Winding Refn takes his time with his scenes and if you're in a hurry, go watch Mission Impossible or something similar to that kind.
Across the Universe (2007)
Tell Me Why...
...you did such a horrible thing. These so called writers just scrolled through The Beatles discography, on drugs, while watching "Hair" and had an idea of making a movie based on these things, but it just went terribly wrong.
1. Everything literally revolves around the songs. "Who minds the plot, the plot is the song and follow it! We are gonna make small meaningful scenes inspired and based on these particular songs, because I like 'em and just mash all the scenes together. While we are at it, I liked that song...what was it called? Pewdence, Paddence, PRUDENCE! Let's add a completely random character and call her Prudence. Hell, make her a lesbian too! I like Sexy Sadie too. Add a girl named Sadie, make her a MILF. One of these better make an appearance through the bathroom window (Get it? Like in the song!) cause I like that song too. Also, main character, gotta name him Jude. So when we get around the end of the movie (when the boy realizes he wants to go after the girl he loves), we can put "Hey Jude" right there. That "You were meant to go out and get her" part gonna hit them hard. Powerful stuff ey?"
2. I'm a HUGE Beatles fan. I was raised with all these songs, but this was abysmal. From the musical arrangement to the autotunish, horrible, unhuman-like singing. Only descent singers were Martin Luther and Dana Fuchs. Why make the actors sing if they can't sing, just do a voice-over. Or, if it has to be the actors who do the singing, well, hire ones that can sing damn it! This sounded like hippy High School Musical.
If you want a musical anti-war drama, go watch Hair. If you want a movie with songs of The Beatles, just then go watch a Beatles movie.
The Conjuring 2 (2016)
Don't get the hype. Was it a horror game or a movie?
Hated the movie, for one simple reason. CGI effects. It's not scary when the subject of fear in the movie looks like something that came from a video game, or like a sticker/emoji. It would be a 1000 times more scary if they'd be reasonable enough not to mask everything in effects and jump scares. Jump scares is equal to a comedian tickling his audience. The beauty in horror movies is the tension, suspense, the build up, and the point (in my opinion) is to sympathize with the protagonist, but I can't do that if the antagonist looks like animated version of Marilyn Manson, literally. Make up should cover the scary part, plot-wise it was okay, but nothing I haven't seen before, nothing unique. The Conjuring 1 was way scarier and more interesting than this sequel.
