W. (2008)
Another dismal attempt at political correctness by Oliver Stone.
Upon witnessing this multi-million dollar black hole, one is driven to wax nostalgic for the Stone "good old days" of films like SEIZURE...LOL.
Whereas liberal idiots will attempt to fill you with clichés like "immaculately researched" and "ostensibly accurate"... this film has even less credibility and realism than An American Carol....
Stone takes progressive liberal idiocy to a whole new level in his depiction of what are the worst rumors of a soon to be ex-president. His agenda, although obviously snide, is distinct in that it has amazingly reached the level of political pandering last seen in "The American President" (where before the 1996 election Senator Bob Rumson i.e. Bob Dole is the bad guy...lol) Outlandishly awful movies like this can only lead one to believe that Hollywood actually believes us to be stupid Obama voting sheep being led to slaughter while sexually assaulted at will.
The only high point of this movie occurred when the credits greeted an already empty theater.
Air Raid Wardens (1943)
A Must See for all lovers of Stan and Babe!
This movie is a tome to all that is World War II, Real Patriotism, and of course our guys Laurel and Hardy........ The boys are grand, and whereas others may think that it was too "Deep" or not enough slapstick, I believe it shows the depth of skill that Stan and Ollie have. I must confess, I was a bit taken aback when seeing this the first time by Stanly's speech to the board of the Air Raid Wardens.... ,... between Stan's speech and Ollie's amazingly silent expressions,... I literally wept! I was simply stunned by the boys dramatic acting abilities... I recall Ollie as a bad guy in some silents, before Stan, and of course Stan also, but never had a clue as to the extent of their talent.
I have loved Stan and Ollie for years (I am actually a cousin of Rosina Lawrence..."mary roberts" in way out west) and I was in personal contact with John McCabe before his death... (I am from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and just a few miles from Mackinac Island where John resided).
I know of what I speak, and I say IF YOU ARE A STAN AND OLLIE FAN WATCH THIS MOVIE!!!!
Recount (2008)
Fifteen is too young to know anything about life.
So you will still be a liberal democrat when you are older? "show me a young man that is a conservative, and I will show you a man with no heart. Show me an old man that is a liberal, and I will show you a man with no brain." Enjoy your idealism while it lasts. I don't envy your turning into Al Gore or Harry Reid.
NOW, A REAL REVIEW BY AN ADULT: Remember 2000 A.D.? It was a simpler time; an era when Sisqo's "Thong Song" ruled the charts, "Battlefield Earth" finally made Scientology's cheery message accessible to the masses and you didn't have to drink your own breast milk before passing through airport security.
It was truly a great time to be an Americanuntil November of 2000, when the Florida recount introduced the nation to something called a 'hanging chad." What is it? Eight years and two terms later, and those liberal folks at HBO still can't get over the fact that their candidate won the popular vote, (although Bush lost several thousands in central time Florida after an early call), but couldn't win the electoral college, and ULTIMATELY lost the election. (Get over it, guys!) Buzzed about: Oh, Spacey. See how much trouble your ever-receding hairline has brought us? Spacey stars in "Recount" as Al Gore's Chief of Staff Ron Klain. Unfortunately, Klain was not only a good 50 pounds heavier than Spacey but also sported a full head of hair. What ever happened to your "The Life of David Gale" toupee, anyway? The "ooh" factor: "Recount" features a who's who of big screen stars, including John Hurt, Denis Leary and a stand-out performance by Tom Wilkinson as James Baker. Directed by Jay Roach (yes, the same Jay Roach who directed "Meet The Fockers"), the production value is surprisingly high, the writing is sharp andsorry, we were just staring at Kevin Spacey's forehead again.
The "eh" factor: Unfortunately, "Recount" is a disturbingly one-sided affair. Sure, we get plenty of scenes with Republican top brass making their case for a Bush Jr. win, but the Emperor had plenty of scenes in "Star Wars," too. And, playing the much-maligned Katherine Harris, Laura Dern's performance quickly turns into caricature, with gratuitous shots of the clownish Florida Secretary of State applying layers of lipstick and rouge. (Later attempts to humanize her come too little too late.) The verdict: I tried to give HBO's historical melodrama a 4 star rating, but one turned out to be a pregnant chad. Tough break, "Recount."
Exorcist: The Beginning (2004)
I tire of movie "know it alls" making a statement
This is not a bad movie. 3.5 stars on a 5 star scale. Simple. I have seen Dominion, and it is a wonderfully crafted movie. But frankly not memorable if you have seen beginnings first. I am not saying it is an inferior movie, to the contrary. But it is slower moving as well as much more mesmerizing. It is a movie that you must sit and watch. Beginnings is a movie that watches you,.. in an eerie manner. Which is more disturbing?...Dominion. Which is "scarier" Beginnings. On a desert Island? Dominion. In my living room with a slightly less than intelligent girlfriend. Beginning.
It is too bad that the artsy asses on this site won't be honest instead of faking intelligence through critique...
