I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020)
Total depression
Psychological drama by renowned writer Charlie Kaufman (I want to be John Malkovich, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) now behind the camera, and who had surprised us with the good animation Anomalisa of 2015. It is the proof that a cinema is not only made with (a lot of) words. Following the protagonist's line of thought in the first part of the film, although tiring, nevertheless creates an expectation of what will happen next. The meeting with Jake's parents, however, is frustrating, and tiredness turns to boredom. And it doesn't stop there, the unanswered questions accumulate in a suffocating and crazy and tedious snowball. My conclusion is that the title explains the state of mind in which the viewer reaches the end.
The Rhythm Section (2020)
Credibility
A woman is on a personal revenge crusade against those who blew up the plane where her parents and siblings were traveling. For anyone who thinks it is easy to make a good action film, this film is an example of failure. Director of photography Reed Morano had already caught the eye with I Think We're Alone Now (2018), but this time he got his hands on it when adapting Mark Burnell's book. A poorly chosen cast where even the experienced Jude Law seems out of place, a script full of flaws and scenes difficult to enact, like an inexperienced girl suddenly becoming an international murderer. It didn't work as an action movie, the proposal lacked credibility.
Queer Eye: We're in Japan! (2019)
Leave Japan please!
For those who remember the 2003 series, nothing has changed much, even with five new hosts. This time they are in Tokyo, looking to help different people with their problems. Nothing very new and anyone who likes this type of 'reality' may like it, but the series seems to me to be dated and besides, the standards are doubtful, since what is good is what is good for Americans. "The only way is my way". Beauty model is Audrey Hepburn, and decor is a loft in Soho and the food is apple pie. Seriously? The Japanese are much better and don't need it.
WWII from Space (2012)
Trash with CGI, but trash!
Revinionist attempt to rewrite history from the Americans' point of view, with many special effects. Trash!
Jack & Diane (2012)
Passion
I compare the discovery of a good movie with the discovery of a new passion. It's rare to happen, but when it does it stays with you for a long time and it feels good.
Jack & Diane is one of those discoveries. A film virtually unknown and difficult to explain, which usually means that it is something unusual, or an unbelievable crap.
The official synopsis says it's about the meeting of Jack and Diane, two teenagers lost in New York today, over a summer. Diane got off on her sister and without money or cell phone, does not know how to get back home. Jack does not know what to do with his life, after a great loss. But is not a romantic movie about sex discovery, it's about vomiting, inner monsters, intimate waxing, urban life, long silences, long kisses, deep sleep at a very long time short, packed by a soundtrack composed by those who understand, and excerpts from the unmistakable and enigmatic animation of the Quay brothers. A nugget of gold, that usually are well under the sole of the foot.
Justice League (2017)
Agrh...
Junk, waste of time and money. One of the worst things one can do with a budget of 300 MILLION dollars, if not the worst!
Rippu Van Winkuru no hanayome (2016)
Beautiful, cruel and almost surreal mix of 'Alice in Wonderland' with 'Dancing in the Dark', past in Tokyo these days.
The innocent and delicate Nanami (Haru Kuroki) is about to marry Tetsuyo (Gô Jibiki), a traditional family boy she met in a chat-site. Nanami does not have family or friends to attend the rigid ceremonial and hires the services of Amuro (Gô Ayano), who has a company that provides (for a price) actors trained to act as their relatives. Now living a comfortable and submissive life, Nanami could become a housewife dedicated to trivial tasks if one day a stranger would not come to her claiming that her husband is cheating on her girlfriend. Even shaken, at first Nanami continues acting like nothing knew, but when the stranger threatens to kill Tetsuyo, she yields to the demands and will find him in a hotel. In fact, it is nothing more than a job paid for by his mother-in-law (and architect by Amuro) for the purpose of destroying his marriage. Without a job and without a place to live, Nanami must again look for the help of Amuro, who offers him a housekeeper job in a closed mansion, and, being Amuro who he is, nothing is what it seems to be. Japanese drama with an original story and excellent performances, mainly by Haru Kuroki, who plays a shy (and almost apathetic) girl, who as a piece without self-will is thrown from side to side by the interests of others, especially those orchestrated by the amoral (and supposedly his friend), Amuro. Great movie! Of those who stay with you for days.
Twin Peaks: The Return (2017)
What ?!
It smells like garbage, it looks like garbage... huh. Don't sell me trash saying it's art and I can't "get it"...The worst feeling is waiting so long in the crazy hope of seeing Twin Peaks again. Call it anything but Twin Peaks. It's an almost insult. I dare not try to understand what happened to David Lynch. Sad. Disappointed.
