This Town (2024)
Slow burner........worth staying with it
From the creator of Peaky Blinders Steven Knight.
There are moments when it has a similar feel with some of the dialogue.
Like Peaky Blinders it has a great soundtrack. Once I got into the second and third episodes I started to really like it, and invested into the characters a lot more. Felt like I was waiting a long time for the development of the band, but plenty of other stories to keep you going until that point. Felt like The Commitments at one point as the band were coming together. A few very good performances from the lead characters, especially Levi Brown & Michelle Dockery, who couldn't have been any further away from the character she played in Downton Abbey.
Big Boys (2022)
Binge watch in one night !!!
Absolutely loved this series from start to finish. Tells the story of two young men thrown together the first day of University.
One street wise and apparently self assured, the other more sheltered and naive.
It's hilarious but at the same time very touching and tremendously written.
You invest heavily in all of the main characters, and I can't wait for the second season which is due to air in 2023.
The main character Jack is experimenting with his sexuality, and sadly he has recently lost his Father to Cancer. His new friend Danny appears to be a jack the lad, but we find out he is much more multi dimensional and suffers from depression. Both the main characters are extremely likeable, and that makes the whole series much more enjoyable.
Ted Lasso (2020)
What a lovely surprise
Didn't think that I was going to enjoy this as much as I did. A comedy about an American Coach coming to the Premier League sounds like it will be corny and silly. But the way that Ted Lasso wins everyone over and the performances of the man characters made it not only watchable, but also keenly anticipated every week. I found myself looking forward to a new episode coming out.
Would love to see a second season planned.
All or Nothing: Tottenham Hotspur (2020)
An Honest Insight
I've been looking forward to this series airing since it was first announced last year. I'm a season ticket holder and have been a Spurs fan since the late 60's.
This gives you a true insight into what goes on behind the scenes at a top Premiership Football Club. You get to see who are the strong personalities in the dressing room and who carries the most influence.
This was a strange season for many reasons, with a new manager and of course all of the injuries at key moments, not to mention COVID 19, and the four month break bought about by that.
It's a must watch for any Tottenham Fan, but also for anybody interested in football, because what happened to my team that season could easily happen to yours. Can't wait for the next 3 episodes to be released next week.
Red Joan (2018)
Based on a true story
Much better than I had expected. In the end this is a very moving story.
Without giving everything away, I would urge anybody that is interested in WW2 and the later Cold War to watch this film. It is a tale that has an underlying love story at it's core. Judi Dench is the main character who is now in her 80's, but the film is stolen by the actress playing Joan in her younger days, Sophie Cookson
