Learning to Love (2023)
Ok but jeez, why do they put so much religion in these movies?
Nice standard story, but why do they have to put faith and religion in these hallmark movies. I love them as I am a hopeless sucker for romances, but this god, religion, church is too much. Trying to cater to the middle America of the righteous religion right? Gimme a break. Hallmark, please get religion out of your main story! The premise is fine, dad wanting to homeschool kids, hires cute teacher and you get the rest... and despite the standard story, acting is ok. Kids do a good job. Bff and all are good. But again, religion and faith are too central to the story. We're looking for romance, not a lesson in religion and morality, and being saved and finding your faith again.
Persuasion (2022)
Just the wrong style for Jane Austin...
Either make the story completely modern, or just a period piece.
Many grammar mistakes. If I was instead of If I were... plus more along the way. Language too modern, and after Bridgerton, these costumes are of poor quality and design.
I gave it 6* cuz I like Dakota Johnson. Henry Golding, who I usually love, was poorly developed and wrong for the role. No suspense or furtive looks as in Pride and Prejudice, the BBC one with Colin Firth, which was the best I've seen with intrigue and real drama, superbe acting.
Too bad. It could have been much better.
Young Royals (2021)
Swedish thrilling series... move over "The Royals"
It is not a thriller, but thrilling. Great acting, so real. The whole cast is awesome. I really hope they make many more seasons. I will not tell you anything about the story, the small description at the beginning is enough. I am watching it in Swedish with subtitles, cuz I like hearing the original voices and intonations. August is evil. Wilhem a prince. Watch it.
Lupin (2021)
10/10. Brilliant, new iteration on Arsène Lupin, gentleman thief. A new 21st century Classic
I had heard about this, and being a native French speaker, it was easy to get into. Subtle, Omar Sy is a true hero. The modern day, discreet Robin Hood. He plays so well, is most charming and educated. I got hooked from episode one. I like that it's in modern day France and not a period piece. So it makes it more relatable. I highly recommend
The Undateables: Daniel/Ruth/Michael (2015)
The characters are charming. Story is heartwarming
I recently found this series and am in love with some of these wonderful, different people. These people are so endearing and it's so adorable to see how thirsty for love these people are. It's also heartbreaking. But the thing I like the most is that all these people with disabilities don't see color or size and shape and just see inner beauty in all. It's an emotional series with a view into how these emotionally or physically original people see the world. Innocent and beautiful. Daniel is one of my favorite characters (real people) so endearing, smiling and just a beautiful person.
Mars (2016)
Brilliant love mix of fact and fiction
People take things too seriously in the ratings of this docu-drama. I love the mix of reality and fiction. Top notch scientists give their take while drama happens on Mars. Maybe the whole building of the colony and getting the materials there may not be realistic, or the special effects are not Spielbergian... but I love the story, the acting is good and well, it does reflect humanity's faults to a T. I don't know if there will be another season, but if so, I hope I don't have to wait 2 years. I am a mega fan of Jihae's. Watch it. But like all fiction, to take with a grain of salt as you just need to believe premises are real.
