Wellington Paranormal: Who the Hell (2022)
Fantastic episode
This episode is a box of fun, with various gags leading to a hilarious conclusion with one of my favorite reccuring villains. This show is finally starting to feel confident and it's world fully realized - it has the potential to go on and get bigger and better with time.
Wellington Paranormal: Time Cop: Not the Jean-Claude Van Damme One (2022)
Classic Sci-Fi concept with a Kiwi twist
This episode was a lot of fun and managed to squeeze a decent chunk of story into its 20 minute runtime. This show needs a season 5, it's only just found it's feet.
Star Trek: Picard: The Star Gazer (2022)
Unbelievable Improvement
This felt like an actual extension of the TNG universe and timeline.
Vast improvements to pacing, set design and dialogue.
Best new Star Trek I've watched this decade.
The Expanse: Azure Dragon (2021)
Great Pacing so far
Book 6 was a bit too slow and bloated compared to most of the other books IMO. This season being shorter and sharper is a good thing. Remember that season three had two main plot points jammed into it, and it worked. Sometimes compressing the story down can make it hit harder and faster.
The protomolecule wasn't a part of this book and it definitely wasn't wrapped up in this book. Viewers expecting an end to the alien story line will need to read the books or wait for the adaptation.
The Orville (2017)
First 'Feel-Good' Sci-Fi show in a while, and I love it!
Critics perhaps hate this show because they were expecting something different, or aren't fans of old-school science fiction. Fans love it because it does what a TV show is meant to do, make you feel good.
Allot of TV these days (especially with Sci-Fi) is very complex, dark and often slow and serialized. I love those kinds of shows, don't get me wrong, but this show brings back the positive, fun and optimistic tone that we haven't really seen since the early 2000s.
Its a show that perhaps doesn't require 100% of your attention, and I like that. Some TV shows days feel like work to get through, but this one is an easy show to sit down and enjoy without having to remember and follow a complex story arch. I love being able to just sit down with an episode and its its own, standalone story. I've missed that!
Its not a rip-off or sneaky thievery of Star Trek, its a show inspired by the Star Trek era, and its been very upfront about that. The comedy at first felt out of place but as the show goes on it really finds it place and fits in nicely with the more dramatic elements. The characters are goofy and likable but do develop quite slowly. The thing I really like is that the crew all get along (for the most part), which is a breath of fresh air in the TV Sci-Fi genre. I am frankly sick of dark spaceships with unlikable characters always arguing and moping around looking depressed.
This show is made to entertain and thrill, and it does just that. Don't expect it to be a full on comedy, and don't expect it to be a groundbreaking new Sci-Fi concept. This show is based on a concept and dynamic that has worked before, and seems to be working again. Watch the first 4 episodes and decide for yourself! Its a load of fun, trust me.
