Las aventuras de Tadeo Jones (2012)
AWESOME MOVIE!
Tad is an awesome movie. I was totally taken aback by how well-done it is. I obviously saw the English version and the voice actors did an outstanding job. I watched the movie only because my 7-year old son loves animation. I probably wouldn't've watched it if it wasn't for him but, to be honest, I am so glad I did watch it. It's exquisitely well-written, well-acted, well-directed, and the animation is outstanding. My son and I love this movie so much that we started a ritual of watching it at least once a week together. I cannot wait to watch the sequel when the English version is made available on Amazon Prime. To director Enrique: very-well done, my friend, and this is coming from a fellow filmmaker. Mochas gracias!
Edison (2005)
Thou Shalt Not Waste Your Time watching this B movie
It's hard to call a movie with Morgan Freeman and Kevin Spacey in it a B movie but that's exactly what Edison is. Poorly written and cast. When I say cast I mean Justin Timberlake. He's the weakest and worst thing in the movie at the same time. Timberlake can sing but he can't act. Every scene he had with Freeman, he looked like an amateur. Freeman is the only redeemable thing in the film. He's a great actor. Kevin Spacey is also good. But why was Timberlake cast in this thriller, is beyond me. The movie is weak because Timberlake can't act (LL Cool J can't act either bty). The story has serious plot holes, sophomoric writing and implausible situations. I honestly couldn't keep watching it. I had to stop because the story kept getting worse and worse. I seriously suggest you skip this poorly written and directed film and watch something much more mature and entertaining.
The Sound of Silence (2019)
Intriguing and thought-provoking
I liked the premise a lot. I was hooked from the start and was just expecting more from the writer. A character arc that goes somewhere. A human story behind the whole thing. A parallel between Ellen's anxiety and Peter's own quirkiness or past. Surely, there must be a skeleton in his closet, some weird stuff that happened to him as a child that got him so obsessed with sound. Alas, none of that materialized. The whole story turned into one big "B-FLAT." As flat as Kansas towards the end. Or maybe it was a bit too dark and low-key for me. However, I must say the premise of the film really piqued my interest and caused me to think. I actually have get stress from my apartment and always knew there was something that was causing it. This film opened my eyes and made me very self conscious of "sound" around me. Overall, it's a good flick.
The Courier (2019)
Dreadful, predictable and so B-movie caliber!
This movie was poorly written, poorly acted and poorly directed. Awful implausible and predictable situations. Hard to believe the script got made. It's mind-blowing how bad writing can make it the screenplay regardless of its mediocrity.
Risen (2016)
Huge Thumbs Down
This is a very poorly done Jesus movie, and the weakest point is the cast and performances. Joseph Fiennes was very good because he's a very good actor, but most of the rest of the cast were weak and miscast. All the disciples were poorly cast misfits with bad English accents and poor acting skills. They were all outclassed by Fiennes who must've wondered what the heck he was doing in this poorly cast, poorly written and poorly directed yawn.
Here's a rule about Jesus movies... if you want to make one, make it on a par with The Passion of the Christ or better. If you can't, don't make one. The Passion has set the bar so high that no one should ever attempt to make another Jesus movie again unless he can top it or do better.
The English accents of some of the cast are laughable because they sound like they come from the blue collar neighborhoods of London. Cockney accents mixed with poor acting skills. I mean, WTF was the director thinking? Oh, cockney in a Jesus movie is going to sound really cool. Not. Fiennes speaks with the Queen's English, which what all actors should have spoken, and they were not good in the first place. I would not have cast them in my student film, that's how bad they were.
The story is implausible and not believable. It never happened, and the fictional part of it is very not believable. I think the filmmakers decided to make another Jesus movie to cash in on the Jesus movie craze, make a quick buck because a lot of Christians are not particularly "film connoisseurs" and buy movie tickets to just about any yawn that has Jesus in it. I gave this film one star and would have given half a star if I could. The only redeemable thing in this waste of celluloid is Joseph Fiennes performance. Otherwise, I would recommend a pass on this complete waste of my time.
