Hook (1991)

Neverfood is Good for You! (spoiler alert)

I LOVE this movie! I first watched this when I was about 6 or 7 and I am 20 years old now. I still enjoy it. In fact, I am watching it as I type this. This movie captures the human imagination in only the way that a Peter Pan movie can. I have seen all the Peter Pan movies to date, so I know. Robin Williams puts on a great performance as a father named Peter Banning who is too busy for his children. When his kids get kidnapped by Captain James Hook (Dustin Hoffman), Banning must try to remember his true identity, Peter Pan. Helping him are a wonderful cast of characters, including Julia Roberts, who plays a great Tinkerbell.

The actors and actresses in this movie do a wonderful job of developing their characters. One of the best character developments is that of Captain Hook. In the original story of Peter Pan, it's mostly about the title character and we don't get to know much about Hook except that he is evil. Hoffman gives us a glimpse into why Hook is so sad and why he really hates Peter Pan.

The child actors are good in this movie. I especially like Dante Basco, who plays Rufio. He did a great job as the young Lost Boy Leader. He made a lot of the scenes funny, especially the Neverfood scene! I LOVE that one! People who hate this movie don't seem to get why it is in the movie. It's all about imagination, people! Pretending is the name of the game in Peter Pan movies! Charlie Korsmo, who plays Jack Banning is also great, especially in the clock scene. It's so dramatic.

Robin Williams is hilarious as well as dramatic in this movie! I wish he still did movies like this instead of the creepy old man ones he does now. The memory scene and the never-food scene are the best. I love how we get a glimpse into Peter's past during the memory scene. I could not think of a better actor to play Peter Pan (Banning) than him.

Finally, the music by John Williams makes the movie complete.

Arthur (1996–2022)

I Love This Show!!

I am 19 years old and I still watch Arthur. This show is a very good series chock full of important life lessons. In each episode, there is a problem that the kids have to deal with that does actually happen in real life. Sometimes, the problems cannot be solved at the end of the show and the writers don't try to solve them. I think this is important as in real life not all problems can be solved. Arthur sets the bar for what children's television should be. It is a show that teaches about friendship, family, love, dealing with bullies, siblings, responsibility, growing up, and even death with grace and style. It's topics are very relevant in our society today. Arthur has been a hit in my family for years and will continue to be for many more to come. Based upon Marc Brown's popular Arthur Adventure series, Arthur is a class-A hit for all ages!

The Magical World of Disney: Polly (1989) Season 34, Episode 6

Glad for Polly!

I have to say that Polly has always been one of my favorite movies. When I was a kid my mom and dad used to sit down with us (my sister and I) and we'd watch the Wonderful World of Disney together. We'd tape the movies, pop some popcorn, and open up a can of Dr. Pepper for a treat that happened every weekend. One day, we saw the preview for the movie Polly, about a girl (Keisha Knight-Pulliam) who goes to live in Harrington, South Carolina with her aunt (Phylicia Rashad) in the middle of the civil rights movement. During her stay in Harrington, Polly (played with grace by Pulliam) discovers friendship, fun, and gladness while breaking down racial barriers within the small town.

I first saw Polly at age three and it continues to be one of my favorite films. I have watched it at least once a year for every year I have been alive since then. I will never grow tired of Polly because it teaches everyone such valuable lessons about friendship and love. It has been sixteen years since Polly aired and my sisters and I are still singing (and dancing) her praises. Every time we hear the song "Stand Up," "Sweet Little Angel Eyes," "Rainbow, Color Me," or "Ain't Got Nothing' on You" we have to get up and dance! I swear we must have rewound the scenes where they play these songs about 100 times each just to dance again.

I love this movie! The acting in this movie is phenomenal and the dancing is some of the best I have ever seen! Kudos to all of the cast and crew of this movie! It is most definitely a "glad text!" If anyone knows where I can get a DVD of this movie please tell me as our home videos of it are getting grungy from overuse!

Full House (1987–1995)

This Show Rocks

I loved this show growing up and I still watch the first season DVD at age 19 today. What can I say? I grew up in a house much like the one on Full House. I had a dad, two sisters, and a dog. I guess the only difference was that I did not live with my uncle and my dad's best friend. Also, I grew up with my mom in the house. I don't know what I would have done without Full House on television. I think that Stephanie (played by Jodie Sweetin), D.J. (played by Kirk Cameron's sister Candace), and Michelle (Played by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen) are my favorite characters. I can relate to each of them because I am the middle child of my family like Steph, I am a younger sister like Michelle, and I am an older sister like D.J. I really like how the show always has moral values because I don't really like any of the O.C.-like shows today. I like the comedy of Full House, too. Uncle Jesse (John Stamos), Joey (Dave Coulier), and Danny (Bob Saget) are hilarious as the girls' uncle, dad's friend, and dad, respectively. The story goes that, after the girls' mom dies, Danny's best friend Joey and his brother-in-law, Jesse move in to help raise the kids. Three men trying to raise three young girls=hilarious. Each character on Full House is full of heart, funny, and genuinely believable. Joey is an aspiring comedian with a kid's heart and soul. Jesse is the cool, motorcycle riding, tough-guy uncle who is softened by his three nieces, and later, his wife Becky (Laurie Laughlin, from Summerville). Both kids and adults will love this show. Guaranteed.
