The Green Mile (1999)

Humanity in video form

I cannot believe that I waited 24 years to watch this amazing and heartwarming movie. All the characters were so relatable to the human condition ranging from pure evil to pure good. Michael Clarke Duncan was amazing, as were all the other main characters. I truly recommend that you don't wait to watch this treasure of a film!

Set in Louisiana in the mid-1930s against a backdrop of racism and small-world sensibilities, this movie takes the watcher through that world which, despite first impressions, produces pockets of beauty and good. Tom Hanks, David Morse, and James Cromwell represent the good and Sam Rockwell and Doug Hutchison represent shades of evil. Make sure that you have tissues near you when you watch this film.

Yes, worth the watch!

This series touches on a subject that has been ridiculed for many years. When faced with the evidence presented in a very balanced way, however, this veil of derision lies in the corner of the room where it belongs. This is what the makers of UFO have done, that is, presented information (both for and against), and left it up to the viewer to weigh that information in their own minds.

I particularly appreciate the professionals in their respective fields coming forward and explaining their interpretations of the topics on screen. This series is not shy about letting both skeptics and believers lay out evidence to back up what was said (without forcing the viewer to take sides). The world could learn a lesson from seeing open debate in action!

Dinotasia (2012)

It truly was a dinosaur revolution!

For people who have given poor reviews on this wonderful set of stories "not being a documentary," watch Discovery Channel's "Dinosaur Revolution" (since that is what Dinotasia is adapted from). From Wikipedia: "In 2012, a feature film called Dinotasia was released into theatres, incorporating and expanding upon the footage seen in Dinosaur Revolution. It was designed to be closer to what Dinosaur Revolution was originally conceived as. It is narrated by Werner Herzog."

The CG aspects of this do show the age of the technology of the time, but nevertheless, this is a great experience if you just let yourself get lost in the stories. I don't think I have seen a better attempt at a film trying to recreate the dinosaur past using forensic evidence from fossils and their locations.

The Midnight Sky (2020)

A timely reminder

I don't know what people expected from this cautionary tale, but both the acting and the cinematography were great. No, this is not a sci-fi movie unless you consider humans devastating the planet as a science fiction. This movie gives us room for pause and a chance to reconsider the harm being done to our planet before it's too late. Bravo, George Clooney, for an amazing movie.

Going Nuts: Tales from the Squirrel World (2019 TV Movie)

Really clever filming and narration

This documentary was chosen as something to watch in the background while doing chores, but it quickly drew everyone to come in and watch it. The film takes the viewer to all areas in the world where squirrels and their cousins (chipmunks, prairie dogs, meekats) live and dwell. Amazing cinematography and patience give the viewer sights from the squirrels' perspective. Simply put, a beautiful adventure!
