Words and Pictures (2013)
Wonderful, hard and lovely!
I love words and story and verbal sparring and I love art. The soul digging and energy-draining angst that play a part in creating with words and pictures are played out in this film. Of course, I hate the destruction and hurt addiction creates in the lives of wonderful people, but am thankful for the portrayal of the hope of recovery, healing and forgiveness and sometimes reconcilliation and even mutual appreciation. It had it all.
The Cry of the Owl (2009)
No heroes!
This started out with an interesting and twisting storyline, but concludes without a satisfying sense of justice you might hope for. It's all left up in the air.
The Unforgivable (2021)
REALLY GOOD, BUT REALLY HARD
Bullock, D'Onofrio, et all, take you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions in this difficult and well woven tale. It's well worth the watch, but keep the tissues handy.
Witness to Murder (1954)
Love Stanwyck, but . . .
I found this a rather cardboard storyline with a predictable outcome. The noir filming seemed a bit more like covering up very scant set and costume details. It felt like a step down for her in script, storyline and direction. I know I will anger some, but I love noir and this wasn't top notch despite a good cast.
For All Mankind: Red Moon (2019)
Convenient Rewrite of History & People
Now, I know this is "sci-fi," but too many millenials watch shows like this and figure there's a lot of historical facts in it. There may be some, but so many of the political takes are slanted, characters who are now deceased get smeared or their stories re-written or embellished, and more. Frankly, hasn't there been enough of that. A pure sci-fi would be more entertaining. Just feels like more cancel culture.
Johnny Dangerously (1984)
Come on man . . . it's a cult classic!
Our kids are 34 and 37 and we watch this classic wacky Keaton comedy on birthays!
Keeping Up with the Joneses (2016)
Classic "intrigue" comedy
Reminiscent of the old Chevy Chase comedies. Love Ham as a straightman in this fun movie. Isla Fischer is the best, We all need to laugh more these days, good for the blood pressure, ey?!
Das Leben der Anderen (2006)
Truthful look at Socialism
Wake up . . . you who think you are Woke.
This is the culmination of the socialist state.
I thought Alexa was bad! Could be . . . in the wrong hands, right?!
Big Brother is a Bad Oppressive Brother.
Watch the documentary, this movie really tells it though.
The docmentary is "Stasi, The East Germany Secret Police."
Renovation of the Heart/It's a Fixer Upper (2019)
Very slow, predictable. Fast forwarded to end!
It felt incomplete, with gaping holes in the storyline and an unsatisfying resolution that should have happened way earlier in the story.
Pacing was treacherous slow. Too bad.
Serenity (2019)
Very interesting.
A great cast with an unusual provocative tale. We enjoyed it. Worth the watch.
Jack Ryan (2018)
Shown at Comic-Con July 2018.
This was shown at Comic-Con July 2018. Probably where most reviews came from, right?!
