Fool Me Once (2024)
Read the book, the tv series is a train wreck!
I've read quite a few Harlan Coben books, and I like his writing. His books always have clever twists at the end, and the writing is engaging and fast-paced. This show was BORING and sooo slow! He needs to break up with whoever is turning his books into tv series. I've watched 3 or 4 now and they're always awful or at best mediocre. Fool Me Once was painful to watch, it was so boring and slow! They should have made the book into 2 maybe 3 episodes or a just done a two hour movie. This series is filled with irrelevant scenes that are so obviously just filler so they could stretch it from 2 or 3 episodes to 8 episodes. Totally ruined what was probably a good book. I was annoyed watching it and the only reason I finished it was because my husband wanted to see it through. I regret watching it and I'm done watching anymore Harlen Coben tv series.
Bad Surgeon: Love Under the Knife (2023)
Too many loose ends.
The series was interesting to watch, but when it was over, there were too many questions left unanswered. How many relationships did he have going? Besides the American girl, there was the wife and two kids in Barcelona, and the woman in Italy, but why the five different phones? Did he have women attached to the other two phones?
I thought they should have focused more on the patients he killed. There were victims that were barely mentioned by name. What was the story with them? And the biggest hole for me was: Why/how did the hospital get away with covering up the completely immoral and tragic acts committed by this doctor? Why are there no lawsuits? In the end, I was left disappointed.
Painkiller (2023)
Watch Dopesick instead
I had already watched the far superior Dopesick on Hulu, and I knew this would be the same story, but I didn't expect it to be so awful in comparison. The writing missed the mark for me. It felt like they they rushed the story, but also felt like it dragged on and on. I suspect the actually storytelling in this screenplay would only be 4 episodes instead of 6, but they filled it with a bunch of dreamlike visuals and Richard Sackler hallucinating and talking to his dead uncle. I found it annoying that so much of the story was left out while all these stylized scenes went on and on. This story deserves a more serious telling. The acting was okay for the most part, but it was just nowhere near the calibre of performances by every single actor and actress in Dopesick. The characters just didn't feel real to me, and I think that was more from bad writing than bad acting. Skip this and just watch Dopesick; it's a solid 10 and this is generously a 4.
