The Women (2008)
a let down
Well, don't even try to compare this piece of garbage to the original. There are several reasons why you should try and do what I can't: 1. The cast in general is inferior. I love Candice Bergen, surprisingly Debra Messing, BUT Meg Ryan as Mary Haines, Eva Mendes as Crystal Allen, and Annette Bening as Sylvia Fowler are lamentable. 2. Crystal Allen/Eva Mendes is painful, really bad, and should be noted as the worst of the bunch. 3. The delightfully catty look at society wives is changed into a run of the mill girly ra-ra movie. The spirit of the original is totally perverted. 4. The exposed zippers in the fashion scene was awful. Edith Head would roll in her grave. The best scene was the delivery room scene. Seriously, the only funny thing.
In Enemy Hands (2004)
Phony, bad.
Boy was this movie bad. The premise was horrible and unlikely. I do not pretend to be an expert on submarines, but, I do know a few things: 1.Submarines would never pick up extra passengers, especially not enemies. They have limited space, air and supplies, why would they change the equation. 2.the acting sucks. Every scene with Macy and his wife was cheesy at best. Over all no one really does an outstanding job, although I think that the Germans were better over all. The dialog is also very bad.
The one good thing I can say about this movie is that the Germans actually speak German... but then again they use incorrect forms of address. I recommend watching "Das Boot" instead.
My Super Ex-Girlfriend (2006)
I'd rather have a chainsaw shoved... than watch this movie
if they gave me the option of negative numbers I'd use it. This movie was truly god-awful. I went into the theaters expecting it to be horrible, and it somehow managed to exceed my expectations.
The script was weak, the acting was painful. I wanted to walk out but my friend was driving and wanted to get her moneys worth, I think we were both disappointed.
The growing of the breasts when the girls got their super power and changing of the hair color was just wrong. Eddie Izzard just seemed wrong for the part of super villain, he came off as oddly weak and silly. Jenny Johnsons (Uma Thurman) came off as psychotic and strange, as did Matt's (Luke Wilson) friend Vaughn (Rainn Wilson.
The Break-Up (2006)
difficult to watch
I really hated this movie.
This movie was like watching my parents divorce all over again, and the ironic thing is that my friend who I watched this atrocity with said it reminded her of her parents divorce. It had a few funny moments, although I was wholly uncomfortable with both the main characters. Gary (Vaughn) was annoying and selfish, Brook (Aniston) was a nag and didn't do much other than pose. The best thing I can say for this movie is that they did not hop into bed together and get together too quickly in the end. I guess they kind of deserve each other.
It was not a 'hilarious' comedy, nor was it in my opinion a great drama. I would save my money if I could do it over again.
Las Vegas (2003)
Insipid and somewhat flat
This show had a promising start as sort of the opposite of 'Oceans 11' but has developed into a shallow display of T & A. Actually, according to my little brother thats the only good part of the show.
The first season was by far the best, it was new and interesting things just went downhill after that. The only redeeming point of this show is JamesCaan, The other actors are lack-luster. The characters lack depth and they seem to be incredibly selfish nd generally un-likable people.
To quote a friend "Las Vegas is like Baywaych in a Casino" In my opinion thats way to generous, Baywatch was way better, and much more realistic.
The Wedding Date (2005)
If I was the author I'd be disappointed.
I wasn't really expecting this to follow the wonderful book by Elizabeth Young; however, I was disappointed that there was barely a resemblance to the book it was supposedly based on. In the book the characters are developed, interesting and, for the most part, likable. In the movie it was all I could do to watch them. The only similarities to the book were that there was a sister who was getting married and she was desperate for a date. If you read the book and like it, then you most likely won't like this movie, if you like a well developed story you won't like this story either.
The acting was for the most part was just so-so; the only likable character was Ed and the father. The story felt like it was rushed, which could have been a good thing. I guess the best part about this movie is that it was short.
Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo (2005)
Amusing, if not wonderful
I enjoyed this movie for its crude humor. I make no apologies for that, I like this sort of movie. I did not go in expecting an Academy award winning movie, I expected crude jokes, strange euphemisms for he-parts, and total irreverence, and I came out satisfied. If you do not enjoy bawdy humor and some times in your face grossness then don't even bother.
Some of the parts I especially enjoyed were the gigolo museum, and the scene with Antoine. This movie made me laugh, but I won't pretend that it was a moving love story like "50 First Dates" or a great comedy like some of the other Happy Madison films. A word of advice if you are going to see it in theaters, I would (and did) see it at the half price showing.
If you are expecting something clean and sensitive look elsewhere. This movie is a lot cruder than the first one, but still very enjoyable if you like that sort of thing. As a side bar all the European gigolos were not at all difficult to look at. This movie was refreshing in that it did not take its self too seriously unlike most sequels of today.
