The Man (2005)
9/10
"Under-Rated" is the definite word here...
21 November 2006
First: I'm of the SCTV "generation." I watched the series on TV, and it, in itself, I consider 'underrated.' For me this means that I know & am familiar with the work of -- (SCTV-wise): Eugene Levy.

SCTV, in itself, was a work of art – comedic wise. If you haven't seen the series, I suggest you do.

Second: Samuel L. Jackson; If your have not seen him in any of his other movies, I also suggest you watch some of his other movies first.

The best way to go into this film, is without any prior knowledge of it's content, or storyline.

However, I insist, in addition to the above affirmation, that: FIRST you become familiar with BOTH Eugene Levy (in other works that he made – esp.: SCTV) & Second, that you would have seen Samuel L. Jackson, in a few of his other films.

Get to know both actors, and their previous roles.

Then... and only then, go into this movie with, not only that experience within you, but also without ANY prior knowledge of what this film is about.

IF this is done the way I recommend: I think you will find this film absolutely... "Enjoyable." (I would also use other "good" words, to describe the experience of this film, but if I do that, it may 'spoil' the movie for you. It's 'enjoyable'... and that's all I can say without spoiling it.) I can't say more. If I'm recommending the above suggestions, then I can't go into details about this movie... And neither should you...

Don't read a summary of this movie. Don't try to find out what it's about.

Just become familiar with both Eugene Levy's past performances in film & also Samuel L. Jackson's.

THEN... And only then... Watch this film.

This way you will get the most out of it, and find out – Like I have – That this movie is very underrated and a "sleeper." This is a GREAT (absolutely underrated) movie!

RV (2006)

The Recipe for "RV"

The Recipe for "RV"

Ingredients:

(Some amounts are approximate.)

1 - Robin Williams (on a bad day)

2/5th - segment of "Vacation"

1/5th - segment of "Planes, Trains & Automobiles"

1/5th - segment of "Dumb & Dumber"

1/8th - segment of "The Great Outdoors"

1/20th - segment of any early Harold Lloyd movie.

1 Sprig - of "The Secret of My Success"

1 Pinch - of "The Pirates of Silicon Valley"

1 Grain - of "The Karate Kid"

1 Grain - of "The Apprentice"

1 - Buxom Blonde

1- Groucho Marx mustache

Directions:

Place all ingredients into a blender and mix well. Do NOT over mix! You should still be able to see chunks, bits and pieces of all the ingredients, being careful not to get the mixture to form into any coherent consistency!

After mixing, skim off any good plot elements. Carefully remove any pieces of logical sense, and good storyline bits that will float to the top. Be careful not to remove Robin Williams, Jeff Daniels, the blonde … And especially leave in the "Dumb" part (or "Dumber," depending on your taste).

Pour mixture into your video player and allow mixture to sit there until some cold winter's night, when you are suffering from insomnia and unquenchable boredom.

DO NOT use mixture, until you have checked all other sources of entertainment (for instance your TV – Making sure that there is absolutely nothing of your liking currently available to view).

Then, and ONLY THEN, you may consume this dish, being sure to hold your nose as you are taking it in.

Comments:

Although I am like Farrah Fawcett during a William Shatner roast (just not as burnt), in that, I don't usually like to say anything bad about anyone or anything, I must say that this entire "dish" lacks in flavor and nutrition.

After consumption, your taste buds will be numb and very possibly asking you: What was the point!?

My Rating:

2 out of 10.

Final Words:

My apologies go out to the fine actors in this "dish." You can't have a "tasty dish" all the time; some of them have to be flops!
