A Fun and Thoughtful Ride
16 May 2024
When it comes to humor, the movie hits a lot of high notes. There are plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, thanks to a script packed with clever lines and hilarious situations. The satire is on point, poking fun at the oddities of church culture without being mean-spirited. It's the kind of comedy that lets you laugh at the silliness while still appreciating the heart behind it.

But it's not all jokes. The film does a great job of weaving in themes about faith and community. It's not trying to be a deep theological treatise, but it does highlight important ideas like sticking together, accepting each other, and finding strength in community. The light tone makes these messages easy to digest, even for people who might usually avoid religious movies.

However, the movie does have a bit of a balancing act going on with its tone. Sometimes the switch between funny and serious moments can be a little jarring. There are scenes meant to tug at your heartstrings that might feel a bit too sappy, and others that seem too silly given the context. It doesn't ruin the experience, but it can throw off the rhythm a bit.

Despite some pacing issues and a few uneven moments, Not Another Church Movie is a fun ride. It's got charm, humor, and a positive message that feels genuine. If you're in the mood for something that'll make you laugh and feel good, this movie fits the bill.

Award winning
30 April 2024
I was eagerly awaiting the new Shogun series, especially as a fan of the original series featuring Richard Chamberlain. This reboot surpasses its predecessor with a richer focus on Japanese characters, enhancing the drama significantly. While most of the cast delivered outstanding performances, Cosmo Jarvis seemed somewhat stiff and lacked emotional depth in his role as the Englishman who unexpectedly sails to Japan. Anna Sawai stands out exceptionally as the interpreter who falls for the Englishman, showcasing her acting prowess, particularly in the final two episodes. The storyline adeptly portrays Lord Toranaga's cunning strategies to ascend as Japan's leader while avoiding war. Jarvis's role as the Anjin serves as a cultural bridge for the audience. Shogun is a strong contender for numerous awards this year. Impressively executed.

So impressed
30 April 2024
Although I'm not the one playing, I love supporting my husband by watching and helping him as he plays. I keep an eye on the surroundings and alert him to any loot or incoming enemies. After hundreds of hours, I've even built my own collections in every settlement he constructs-even an island teeming with gorillas. Watching this show brings that same thrill and enjoyment. The storyline, humor, atmosphere, scenery, and the Junk Gun are all purely delightful! I appreciate that they embraced the adult humor instead of watering it down for a broader audience. It's also exciting to see how the show expands the lore and raises new questions. I'm eagerly anticipating what unfolds in season two.

One of the highlights of the year so far
30 April 2024
An effective, thought-provoking, and charming exploration of life as a young person in the 2020s, this film excels with its well-crafted story that prefers to show rather than tell. It balances surprisingly funny jokes and a plausible romantic storyline with natural leading performances, all beautifully captured through lovely minimalist cinematography. The dynamic between the characters is engaging, although I wished for more scenes with the girlfriend to fully explore her perspective. Overall, it's a highly recommended watch that captures the essence of youthful experiences in a sophisticated, yet relatable way.

Brilliant
29 April 2024
This story truly captivated me! Initially, it felt lackluster, akin to those Netflix series that don't quite catch your interest, and I might have rated it between 3 and 4 stars.

However, it took a dramatic turn and became incredibly impactful, particularly in the episode where the protagonist disclosed his trauma. That episode left me sleepless. His bravery is commendable, though it surely wasn't easy for him.

The storytelling was exceptional, and the performances were stellar. The narrative was raw, emotional, and sincere. Television needs more stories like this, particularly for those who have faced similar challenges. I sincerely hope that Gadd continues to create because his authenticity and sincerity shine through, something that viewers deeply value.

i was on the edge
26 April 2024
This film had a few slow moments, but overall, it was quite engaging and held my attention throughout. The storyline is well-constructed and thoughtfully laid out, showcasing a plot that, while having room for improvement, is compelling in its delivery. The stellar production quality and strong performances from the cast significantly compensated for any narrative shortcomings, bringing the characters and their dilemmas to life with great effect.

The film excels in delivering suspense and intrigue, effectively keeping you on the edge of your seat as the plot twists and turns through dark and unexpected territories. It's a quintessential thriller that masterfully plays with tension and psychological drama, making it a must-watch for fans of the genre.

Additionally, the cinematography and musical score are noteworthy, as they significantly contribute to the film's intense atmosphere. The visual style enhances the thematic elements of the story, while the score underpins the suspenseful scenes with a haunting resonance, making the overall experience thoroughly memorable and engaging. This film is a strong contender in its genre, offering both thrills and a thoughtful exploration of its central themes.

Funny with a message
2 April 2024
I just watched the new Avatar live-action on Netflix. I was stunned by the visuals and by the opening sequence. However, as the story progressed, the actors couldn't pull off the storytelling- not their fault, they're very young and it was apparent they were thrown into the production too soon. My point being, it doesn't always matter how much you throw into a production; how you execute the storytelling, will ultimately be the deciding factor if your content is worth watching.

I came across this show (NNYC) from one of the ads they had running on TikTok. The script is pretty witty, and packed with smart one-liners. They fell somewhat short on the technical elements (it's an indie production!). With that said, kudos to the cast! If there's one element that worked, it's hands down the casting itself. Everyone was brilliant for their roles. Tons of laugh-out-loud moments, and Gaia is just freaking adorable. Aria and Sahir are HOT, and Dante is my favorite character in the show.

A must-watch for the perfect blend of humor, and deeper message. Sweet, sharp, and served with a side of heart. 7/10!

thriller
1 April 2024
Throughout this movie, I never felt like I was outpacing the plot. It was like being a detective myself, picking up hints sporadically. Yet, I only connected the dots when the movie intended me to. As a viewer, I was neither ahead nor lagging; I was precisely where the film meant for me to be. This created an exceptionally gratifying viewing experience. The major twist was unforeseen, yet it didn't catch me off guard like twists often do in less skillfully crafted movies. Instead, my reaction was more of a realization, thinking, "Ah, that's perfectly logical. Incredible." This is the ideal response after a movie - feeling smart for noticing all the hints but still being pleasantly surprised. I suggest giving this film a watch to see if you can outpace it. The experience is likely to be as rewarding for you as it was for me.

The great Bezos
16 March 2024
The film offers an insightful look into the lesser-known early days of Amazon, providing a balanced and factual narrative of Bezos' journey. I was particularly impressed by the film's portrayal of Mackenzie and her significant role in the company's growth. Filmed entirely in Miami with Emilio Estefan in a starring role, the movie draws an intriguing connection to Bezos' Cuban stepfather, adding a unique cultural dimension. Although the movie's pace slows a bit towards the end, it remains a captivating watch. I highly recommend it to anyone, not just those interested in Bezos, but also to those who enjoy exploring the realms of business and startups.

We want more
18 February 2024
I was completely captivated by this series, which masterfully chronicles the life of a hitman from Staten Island through the lens of a film crew. The standout star for me was Steve Stanulis, who brings the character of Thomas Lynch to life with irresistible charm and charisma, especially from the second episode onwards. The authenticity of the series is striking, thanks to its clever use of camera techniques and seamless editing, making me feel as though I was part of the action. What's refreshing is how the narrative flows smoothly without any unnecessary prolongation, a rarity in many indie productions. This show has the potential to transcend its current format and evolve into a feature film, likely garnering a dedicated and passionate fan base. A truly remarkable and engaging piece of work!

Unusual, sharp, and wickedly captivating. At times, the actions unfolding seemed to echo Trump and his supporters, reminiscent of their march to the Capitol. The followers appeared robotic and cult-like. Jennifer Jason Leigh was outstanding, infusing her role with a level of sarcasm that was hilariously spot-on. Her performance is award-worthy. John Hamm was equally impressive, embodying a convincingly sinister character. I was previously unfamiliar with Juno Temple, but after this, I'll definitely keep an eye out for her work. The 2023 episodes were thoroughly engaging, often leaving me on the edge of my seat with a pounding heart. The finale, with the unhinged character quoting "a man must pay his debt," was a powerful conclusion.

Perfection
21 January 2024
Oppenheimer is a cinematic gem from the brilliant mind of Christopher Nolan! With his impeccable direction and storytelling, Nolan once again proves his prowess in creating unique and captivating films that stand out from his previous works. The story is enthralling, drawing you into its world from the very beginning. Cillian Murphy and RDJ deliver Oscar-worthy performances, immersing us in their characters' journeys and emotions. Their chemistry on screen is electric, adding depth and authenticity to the narrative. The supporting cast equally shines, leaving a lasting impact with their powerful portrayals.

The background score complements the film perfectly, enhancing every scene's atmosphere and emotional impact. The haunting melodies stay with you long after the credits roll. Moreover, "Oppenheimer" tackles deep and thought-provoking political issues, making it more than just an entertaining movie. The way it addresses these themes is mind-blowing, leaving audiences with much to ponder. This film is like an old wine that only gets better with time. It's a true cinematic experience that stays with you, inviting you to revisit its intricate layers and brilliant storytelling. "Oppenheimer" is a must-watch for any film enthusiast, and Christopher Nolan continues to prove why he's one of the greatest directors of our time.

Embark on a thrilling escapade with Jason Statham's latest cinematic triumph! This exceptional action film skillfully intertwines the elements of real-life challenges with the flair of movie magic, presenting an enthralling tale that dives into the world of battling con artists and seemingly invincible adversaries that lurk in our day-to-day life. The beauty of this film lies in its straightforward plot, which paves the way for exhilarating and well-choreographed combat scenes, ensuring you're glued to your seat in anticipation. Statham, in his element, delivers a performance that cements his position as the quintessential action hero. His portrayal is both gripping and authentic, adding a layer of intensity to every scene. This movie isn't just about the action; it's a journey into the depths of strategy and resilience against formidable opponents. It's a visual spectacle that combines heart-stopping action with a narrative that resonates with anyone who enjoys a story of overcoming the odds. Heart Thumping Pumping Action and Chemistry
21 January 2024
Fast Charlie is an adrenaline-pumping, action-packed thrill ride that delivers on all fronts! From the explosive opening scene to the heart-stopping climax, this film never lets up on the excitement. The chemistry between Pierce Brosnan and Morena Baccarin is electric, and their on-screen banter adds a delightful layer of humor to the film. James Caan's final performance is nothing short of brilliant, and his presence is sorely missed. There's just something that really works about Brosnan being a hitman, he seems so dignified that you know there must be a story behind why he kills. I would recommend this film to most people.

Black Noise (2023)

It's fun but can be better
8 December 2023
This is a decent film that combines elements of action and suspense. The story follows an elite security team tasked with rescuing a VIP from an island, but quickly turns into a survival mission against a vague threatening force. The movie delivers a fair share of tension and action, but sometimes struggles with pacing and falls into typical genre clichés. The island setting is visually appealing, though the cinematography is not particularly groundbreaking.

The cast's performances are solid, but they don't always manage to elevate the somewhat predictable script. In essence, "Black Noise" is an average thriller, offering enough suspense and action to keep viewers engaged, but it doesn't venture far beyond the typical conventions of its genre. It's a film that might be enjoyed for a casual viewing, but it doesn't stand out as a memorable cinematic experience.

So Inspiried
1 December 2023
This was only a profound and engaging journey into the impact of The Red Shoes, but also an educational experience that deepened my appreciation for the art of ballet and the significance of this iconic work.

Both their interaction, enriched by personal experiences, offered an introspective look at the performing arts world, spotlighting the evolution of ballet and the persistent challenges and triumphs. Their dialogue transcends mere tribute, bridging different eras and interpretations of the story and illuminating the specific hurdles faced by women in performing arts.

From this, I gleaned a deeper understanding and newfound respect for the art form and its history, truly appreciating The Red Shoes and ballet more than ever.

Jeremy London's resurgence is in full swing! Best known for his roles in the nineties, like Mallrats and Party of Five, he now shines as Erik LeRoux, even performing his own songs! His portrayal is a dynamic mix of charisma, charm, humor, and wild unpredictability. This performance, possibly his finest, is a testament to both his talent and Doleac's skilled direction. The screenplay by Doleac and Williams masterfully balances creativity and humor with touching explorations of marriage, unfulfilled dreams, and family dynamics. Imagine a fusion of Noah Baumbach and Richard Linklater's styles, mixed with the energy of MTV music videos - it's a highly entertaining blend. As for its genre, it's hard to pin down - it's a bit of everything. Just dive in and embrace the experience.

As the storyline unfolds, it pulls you deeper into its enigmatic world, making it impossible to resist the urge to binge-watch the series, eager for the next revelation or heart-thumping moment.

The series' technical prowess magnifies its gripping narrative, with cinematography that masterfully plays with shadows to create a sense of foreboding, and a score that heightens every scene with impeccable precision. It's this combination of visual storytelling and auditory intensity that transforms Romancero from merely a show to watch into a full-bodied experience, cementing its place as a standout in the realm of supernatural television.

16 October 2023
This movie is an absolute gem, particularly for those who appreciate talented character actors, expressive facial performances, and relatable modern-day situations. The film boasts an ensemble cast featuring the likes of Christian Slater, Crispin Glover, and Michael Jai White, all of whom deliver notable and endearing performances.

Crispin Glover, in particular, shines brilliantly in his quintessential style, bringing his unique charm to this no-brainer comedy set in the vibrant backdrop of Detroit. The movie is a visual treat, filled with luxurious swimming pools, million-dollar mansions, and attractive individuals that add a splash of color and humor to every scene.

Whether you're watching solo or enjoying it with friends on a laid-back Thursday night, a glass of wine in hand, this film is guaranteed to tickle your funny bone with its witty humor and clever satire. It's a captivating story, especially if you have an affinity for glitz, outstanding acting, and top-notch cinematography.

One of the highlights of this movie is the captivating locations it showcases, adding depth and authenticity to the narrative. And of course, Crispin Glover's performance is an absolute standout, making this movie an enjoyable and memorable experience.

Could be better but still good
16 October 2023
Director Glenn Ciano's expertise shines in creating an atmosphere of relentless tension, with impeccable cinematography and sound design. However, where the film falls short is in its storyline, which lacks depth and originality. The characters are one-dimensional, and the plot feels like a collection of clichés, relying on convenient plot devices and unlikely coincidences. While it entertains with its action, "Midnight Pursuit" fails to provide a compelling narrative, leaving the audience craving a more engaging and well-crafted story.

Despite its narrative shortcomings, "Midnight Pursuit" is worth a watch for its adrenaline-inducing action sequences and exceptional technical aspects. The film's gripping visuals and intense soundtrack elevate the suspense, making it an enjoyable experience for those seeking an action-packed thriller, even if it doesn't leave a lasting impact in terms of its storyline.

The comedy in this movie is delightfully unique, avoiding worn-out clichés and embracing sharp, unforeseen turns. It seamlessly shifts from uproarious slapstick to nuanced, observational jests, appealing to a diverse comedic palate. Its recurring jokes are masterfully crafted, leaving you amused long after the credits roll.

The entire team behind this film possesses a remarkable sense of comedic rhythm, evident in every moment. The visual gags are both imaginative and audacious, capitalizing on physical comedy while also serving up witty visual puns that surprise you. Don't overlook this laughter-filled masterpiece-it's a memorable whirlwind of fun!

A Dark Tale of Consequences and Desperation
27 August 2023
Prepare to be drawn into a world of moral ambiguity and escalating tension in "The Good Neighbor." Luke Kleintank brings depth to the character of David, whose accidental actions set off a chain of events that spiral out of control. Vanessa's grief, portrayed by Eloise Smyth, adds an emotional anchor to the narrative. However, it's Jonathan Rhys Meyers' portrayal of Robert that steals the show - his portrayal of the seemingly perfect neighbor harboring sinister motives keeps you guessing at every turn. The conflict between David and Robert builds to a climax that's as chilling as it is riveting. This is a story of guilt, redemption, and the dark corners of human nature that will leave you deep in thought long after the credits roll.

Excellent movie! I stopped at a friends place who was watching it and within minutes I was hooked. I was late getting home because of this movie. Never given 10 stars before, but this was well worth it and all the smart curveballs thrown at us throughout the movie was entertaining too. Certainly recommended this movie if you enjoy, mystery, thriller, psychological innovative plots. I hope they get more eyesballs for this film and they win more awards. Dungeon is a solid movie by the director who also plays the main lead. I don't even remember the last small budget film i seen to the end but this one I weren't forget.

Such a sweet plot. The film is about Kate Birdsall, a transgender woman in her 60s who moves to New York and falls in love with her neighbour Andrea. The film has everything you'd want in a drama, romance film. Well done to Jon Garcia for making this film. I highly recommend.
