Heroes Reborn (2015–2016)
1/10
Heroes Stillborn
23 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Don't want to reiterate what has already been said by fans of the original. I completely understand why these fans are turned off by this reboot (I am one). Nothing of what made the original (especially the first season) great has been brought to the table here. It is very unfortunate that the reboot starts with such a poorly written and disappointing opening segment (a complete turnaround from the original). The new characters are confusingly boring; the video-game imagery a mystery and the fight sequences awful. I guess the writers of the reboot felt more CGI would keep the old fans happy and attract new ones as well. I guess they didn't realize that what made the original so great was great writing. This seems to be the trend in Hollywood for sequels: more explosions, special effects, and characters than the original. How long before they realize that the story is what is important?

XXL Failure
17 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I was actually embarrassed for all the actors involved with this movie. Either there wasn't a script or they just didn't bother learning their lines or rehearsing. Improve just doesn't work with some actors or when there really is no point to the story. Was this supposed to be about 40 year old men who act like 12 year olds who think they're 25? Yes, the guys are in really good shape, but all those great bodies have 40-year old heads attached. Again, how are they not embarrassed by the release of this movie? And Channing Tatum looks ridiculous with that backward baseball cap. Every scene was truncated, so there was no resolution to anything. And, the reason provided for the road trip was petty lame. All in all, a poor attempt to simply capitalize on the mediocre at best original. XXL failure.

The Daily Show (1996– )

Not My Cup of Tea
15 October 2015
I WAS a Daily Show fan for years, but am completely confused at the decision to place Trevor Noah in the anchor seat. As with all nightly talk shows, it seems The Daily Show wants to be more frat party than talk show. Obviously, anyone who replaced John Stewart was going to be facing great scrutiny, but Trevor just is not a good fit. Gone is the sly wit, emotional connection, and light banter that The Daily Show excelled at. It was a struggle for me to stay up so late the watch this show (because I get up so early in the morning), but I always thought it was worth the effort. I guess now, I get an hour more sleep every night. Healthy for me, but it feels like something is missing now.

Poltergeist (2015)

Polter Crap
2 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
First off, the most horrifying thing in this movie is the acting. The second most horrifying thing was that I had to spend six dollars to see it. Unlike the original where the family was slowly exposed to the poltergeist, in this movie, absolutely nothing happens in the first 30 minutes, then the kids, while home alone are all terrorized by unknown and mostly unseen forces (The special effects were actually much better in the 33 year old original). When the parents come home, even though neither has experienced any phenomena yet, they immediately buy into the whole supernatural explanation. Instead of discovering why these events are happening, a tele-supernaturalist just blurts it out about 60 minutes in. And for some reason, the wimpy son has most of the ideas on how to solve the problem (not the army of experts parading through the house). I won't bother trying to compare this to the original, but just say the only reason I went to see this movie was because of the original. That mistake will haunt me forever.

Would Somebody Please Shut Iris West Up!
10 May 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Every episode Iris West goes on and on about how "Barry lied to me," "My father lied to me," "my boyfriend lied to me." Talk about a broken record. First she goes from being a waitress to magically getting a job as a top reporter. Then she spends the rest of her screen time accusing people of lying to her, then acting like a 10 year old by giving everyone the silent treatment. Her rants are always about, "I thought you loved me," "I thought you were my best friend." Unfortunately I know I am not the only person who just wants someone to put a bullet in her head and get that annoying character off the show. And why on earth would anyone want to date or live with that shrew? Her character adds nothing to any storyline. Get rid of her. It is otherwise a pretty good, albeit, a kind of childish show.
