The Walking Dead (2010)
Bland, gutless series
The first season is flawed, but still very enjoyable, with lots of entertaining set-pieces and good character drama, even if some of the writing of particular characters is bad (Amy and Ed). I say a 7/10.
Season two is a disgusting cynical cash-grab that destroys what Frank Darabont set out to do with the series. All to save a little cash. Not to mention the agonizingly slow pace is mistaken by some as "mature" and "reserved" when it is obviously to save cost on action scenes and new locations. 3/10 stars.
Seasons three and four get only slightly better, with more set-pieces but absolutely inane plots and lazily written characters whose stupid, incoherent decision making is mistaken by fans as "complex" and "human". Not to mention some of their material is not nuanced at all and quite silly. 5/10 stars.
Season five combines three and four's budget and laughable dialogue with season two's boringness. The only episodes that are worth anything are the first three, and even those seem to have been grossly misinterpreted by fans. 4/10 stars.
Haven't even watched season six yet. I'm too afraid to see what they bastardize next.
Overall, they rarely ever kill off major characters (and when they do it's fairly predictable or in a very dumb way), and booting Darabont from the series was not only a dumb decision but a cutthroat and reprehensible one. Watch the first season, play the game, and read the comic.
