Halloween II (2009)
It had potential...
It's a shame this movie gets a lot of slack because I honestly don't think it's near as terrible as people say. That's not to say it's without faults either because it has plenty of them. I liked the fact they dealt with the aftermath of the first film (which I think is far worse than this) events and Laurie having Ptsd and all of the survivors' trauma.
However I never liked Scout Taylor Compton's portrayal of Laurie at all. I found her irritating and her voice is extremely screechy. Although I think she did a much better performance for Laurie in this movie and the acting was very good all round. The characters, yet again, are unlikeable and I don't know why Rob Zombie always has unlikeable characters. It's cheap and you just don't care when they die, so it loses something. Another problem was the dialogue. Oh, the dialogue. This was another big problem with the first film. I'm sorry but people don't talk like this! Or at least I've never heard anyone talk the way they do, with at least three swear words in every sentence. It's too Ott and the dialogue itself is cheesy.
I thought the story was OK, nothing special but still pretty good and I liked the characters relationships together, especially Annie/Laurie, Annie/Lee, Samuel/Michael and Laurie/Michael. They were handled well. Another thing I would recommend if you haven't seen the film, or even if you have, is to watch the extended uncut version. Imo it is far superior to the theatrical with scenes that make the plot actually make a lot more sense and add a more emotional aspect which is why it was really stupid to cut so many of them.
Girlhouse (2014)
Surprisingly BRILLIANT.
I went into this film with judgment and thinking it was going to be terrible. Another "Muck" type film. Oh boy was I wrong. This film is great and one of the best slashers I have seen all in at least a year and I love slasher films.
It had everything; creepy killer with a cool mask, really creative and brutal kills, nice atmosphere, beautiful girls, good main character (and characters in general) and an actual romantic sub- plot that didn't suck! In a slasher film! This never happens. The story was nice too, the killer having control over the technology of the house was a good twist and the setting in a "girlhouse" was pretty cool and something that hadn't been done before. There were faults of course, like the Ted Bundy quote at the beginning which put me off straight away and made me want to hate it even more. It was really kinda twisted to put that in there. Another thing was the ending which was OK but same old same old. Would have been cool to see Kat or Devon live as well and not just another "final girl".
I HIGHLY recommend this film to slasher film lovers or even those who don't love it because it is not your usual slasher film.
